So I've decided to sell my road bike.  Thinking about picking up a set of $1k race wheels from Boyd, Williams, 2Quick, whatever and a wheel cover.

... but do you ever really slow down?  You work, you train relentlessly, you train people ... and God knows what else.  You don't really take much down time after big races either ...  While you have coached all of us to do so, maybe you should take about a month off of rigorous planned training after Florida ... let the body and mind refresh

Looking at Kelly's logs, I think she does take time off after big key races.

The ponytail - my hairdresser knows not to cut my hair too short that it won't go into a ponytail. We call if the "ponytail factor" and you don't mess with it or there will be hell to pay!

I am back in the ATL, and very happy about that. West Palm Beach was awful, I was looking forward to Atlanta humidity which is hysterical because I complain about it all the time. But down there the humidity was stifling.

I take at least two weeks completely off after big races.  Plus this year I took almost three full weeks off after my bike crash.

I'm not burnt out on training, I'm just busy.

Happy anniversary Scott and Cindy! I am counting down the days to hubby and I get away with no kids!! Bliss!!!

Jen - maybe I missed this - why is short hair so bad?

Well, I am still growing out the super short pixie from last year.  It's chin length but there are still pieces that hit the tip of my nose.  I used bobby pins all over to try to get the hair out of my face for my race, but when I put my helmet on, the pins were squeezed so tightly against my scalp that I ended up getting a headache.  Then when I pulled the helmet off in T2, it was a disaster.  LOL  I lost some of the pins in my helmet, so I had big clumps of salty hair sticking to my face.  My husband snapped a pic of me that is a total riot (I have since deleted).  I don't like to run with hats or visors because I start to get headaches, so I really need it to fit in a ponytail.

I know I complained about being over it all before my HIM, but I think it was just the 3-3+ hour workouts every single day that were sucking the life out of me.  I miss training!  I don't want to be back at the peak training stage again any time soon, but I miss the overall structure of my weeks.  I had an amazing experience at Cedar Point.  It was so much fun!  I can't wait to rebuild this year and take a stab at a new challenge.  It's exciting

I'm glad to be doing something different for a bit. I'm enjoying all the core and yoga work that will make me stronger going forward. I'm already mentally planning what training is going to be like and I've been browsing races, bike course, etc as I get more restless but some time away will make me hungry again. It will put the fun back into it and take the obligation out of it. I want to do some intervals on fresh legs for the first time since early June. I was just so beat up the body needs this. A week out I can feel my legs getting healthy. The IT Bands feel perfect. I have a little tenderness left on the inner back part of the knee which I bursitis from the constant pounding on the run still.

In looking at races beach to battleship has both a half and a full and I thought about doing the full and then thought oh-oh don't do it it's the lack of training talking. Surprised

kaburns1214 - 2012-09-15 4:22 PM B2B is a good race . . .

I've heard really good things about it. Definitely a front runner when I do make the jump to IM. Eagleman, Cedar Point and Montreal Esprit as well.

While most I know doing IM's don't sign up for as much as you do, most do take a month or 2 off after IM season is over. You may not be burnt out from training, but that adds to life burnout because it take free time away from other things

Morning, all!  I'm heading to the gym with my husband in a couple hours.  He's going to teach me some things about strength training.

Can anyone suggest some running tights for colder weather for me?  Also, gloves for winter running?  This week is high 60/low 45 for most of the week, and it's only going to get colder.  I need to get all set up for when that does happen.  Last year I did most of my winter running on the treadmill, but I'm going to hit the streets this year.  I'm just too bored on that treadmill.

Cold weather running is the best!  Tights - I'd have to say lululemon of course.  Spendy but the best $$ you'll spend on something that will last you forever.  Otherwise I like Nike or Under Armour.  (but you can't go wrong with lulu)

Gloves - I like glove liners (thinner material, but still wicks moisture) because I get so hot running.  REI has a really good selection, all kinds of thicknesses.  I have Nike, Northface & Manzella - all fairly thin but keep me warm.

I had a nioce group ride saturady have not done that in years. and a great 18 mile run yesterday the joys of marathon training!!

Javary - Cold waether runnig is great last year I did a long run when it was -14 I don't know if it was fun or stupid. I would suggest UA cold gear base layer it works great and then layer off that.

Jen I like the 2XU thermal tights myself.  This weekend was great.  Lots of quiet time w/o kids.  Ahhhhhhh.  Lots of great food too.  Only downside was there was a wedding going on at the hotel we were staying at and there was a TON of noise in the wee hours of the morning.  All the empty beer cans in the hall when we went to breakfast was amusing though.

Good ride Saturday.  Got to spend 3 hours with some guys who did IMTX this year so I picked their brains a bit.  And a good swim this morning.  Oh yeah the Texans won and Cowgirls lost so another bonus for the weekend.

I wear alot of under armour stuff.  I usually find alot of stuff on their outlet store online.  I wear all lower body shorts, tights and bras from them.  They seem to work for me.

2XU is the Cadillac and I use those on long runs and UA on shorter runs. I like UA for gloves and hats.

Alright so my good deed for the week is out of the way.  Set my buddy up with a skeleton of a  nutrition plan.  He was taking a gel on long rides when he started to feel tired instead of on a schedule.  He took in no cals on a 56 mile ride yesterday and couldn't figure out why he couldn't do the 30 minute run he had scheduled afterward.  I told him he needed to play with it before Oilman so hopefully he does.

Thanks for the advice on the tights and gloves.  I'll try some UA and go from there.  Took my husband to the gym and he showed me around the weight area.  I think I'm going to be feeling it tomorrow.  I'm going to work on core at home Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Using same program I used last year.  Seems to hit everything.  Like Scott (everlong), I'm happy to be doing something other than S/B/R right now.  I'll be excited to run again next week though.  The pool....well, I don't want to swim for at least another month (and I don't think I need to be swimming this fall anyway).

I would like to hear the core too ... something I am very lax on and am now feeling is now that I am back running.

UA cold gear is pretty great for winter runs!

For cold running here is what I do ... manzella hat if under 40 degrees (wicks sweat the best while not being hot), tights on top of compressions shorts on the bottom, road runner sports long sleeve top with pearl izumi convertible jacket (sleeves zip off and you stuff them in a pocket), nike run gloves.  Roadrunner sports has their own line and alot of their stuff is very reasonable.  All Roadrunner stuff has a 90 day warranty ... you can put 1000 miles on shoes and return them!

I use the BT core workouts.  They are numbered 1-5.  I do them 3 x per week - Core #1 and #2 on Tuesday, #3 and #4 on Thursday, and #5 on Saturday.  I did these for 6 months, and I saw a huge difference in my core.  They exercises are done on a Fitball, and some use a medicine ball.  They hit everything (including glutes, which is what I need).

Upper body is in pain from the lifting.  Chest and lats don't feel very good at all.  I'm such a wimp when it comes to this kind of pain.  LOL   That's why I always start a strength training regimen and then stop 2 weeks later  I will stick with it this time, darn it!
