Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do most people wear a tri top & tri shorts for the entire IM? Or do people change into running clothes in T2? I'm talking ordinary mortals here and not people chasing Kona/super fast. |

Or do people change into running clothes in T2? I'm talking ordinary mortals here and not people chasing Kona/super fast. I wore the same thing all day for both of my IM. Its a personal preference. I have found out my quads hold up better with compression tri shorts less cramping and fatigue so I choose to use my Desoto 400 milers to run in as well. I also put my compression sleeves on in T2 because I HATE to bike with them but lLOVE them to run in. I would say it could depend on weather as well it is were could I may want to change out of a sweaty top after the bike. Best thing is to figure out what works for you |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For my first IM I wore the same thing from start to finish - Desoto Carrera Tri Shorts, 2XU sports top, LG Tri Singlet. I felt fine the whole time as far as what I was wearing. Transitions were pretty quick with no changing. For my second I started in my Desoto Carrera Tri Shorts, 2XU sports top & customer Desoto (Team Buttercup) tri top. I swapped the tri shorts for lulu shorts in T2. It was nice to put on clean dry shorts for the run. We were in a women only room for T2 so I just changed right there with a volunteer helping with my stuff. It was quick and easy. For my third I stared in Desoto 400 mile shorts, 2XU sports top & customer Desoto (Team Buttercup) tri top again. I decided ahead of time to change into lulu shorts for the run. This race was very low key, supposed had a changing tent but I never saw it. I was going to just change out in the open but my Dad was right there, so that was a no go. I panicked and ran to the port-o-potties to change. It worked, but added a lot of time to my T2 time. I was still glad I changed into dry shorts. You'll see all sorts of variations. People that do not change at all. Others that change one piece. And still others that do a complete wardrobe change in both T1 & T2. Do whatever you think you'll be most comfortable in. It's going to be a long day regardless, and you want to be comfortable. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() carrie639 - 2012-09-20 12:47 PM Jen, just look at my logs .... you worry way too much! I want to work out more, but heck with 14 hour workdays, it is hard to get in what I am given right now. Plus, I know we need to move slow to determine in a month if it makes sense for me to do an IM next year. On the positive side I was freaking out last night think there was no way work-wise I could do IMFL (I am a business unit controller and that would be right at month-end close, forecasts, reporting, etc). I talked to the CFO today and he said we would make it work ... so that made me so happy I still have the option!!! Now, I just have to worry about making sure I can get in through online registration! Kelly/others .. you will have to let me know before what is the minimum amount of info I need to put in so I don't get bogged down on registration and it fills and I don't get in. I go away for a few days (I've been dealing with a flu like bug and am RDing a half marathon tomorrow) and I see all these "Congrats Carrie" and I thought you signed up for Louisville. Florida is a good choice. You can pretty much pre-fill the forms on active.com. For whatever reason this years races have not been selling out as quickly (both IMLP and IMMT took weeks to fill up). I don't think you'll have a problem. |

Congrads on race directing its fun and rewarding !!
I am the asistant race director for 3 tris in Upstate NY I love it we have grown to over 500 athletes at our biggest race FUN FuN I can't even imagine directing a Tri. This run was around a private lake setting, and now people are begging for me to put a Tri here. I am not sure I have the time for that. It would be a perfect setting. Water is crystal clear, no weeds, no motor boats etc. Something to consider. Tris get more difficult from a permit / insurance / logistics perspective. |

They popped on cycling jerseys instead of tri tops and then just stayed in them. |

I wonder if we are starting to hit a saturation point with the number of events vs the number of potential active participants. As racers that's a good thing. It should in theory bring down or at least control the price increases. I know a lot of people want to do the M. races but bang for the buck I'm much more likely to do Cedar Point or Bridge to Battleship or something like those given the cost. |

I can see the correlation my pace and HR have to the temp. Absolutely. I've run a course in the early AM and then another day during the middle of the day and my HR will jump 15-20 BPM average where the AM temp is 60-65 and the midle of the day 80-85. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm a bit irritated today. Big surprise, I know. I'm pretty much done giving advice, solicited advice mind you, to those outside of those close to me. I am tired of what my friend calls "askholes". People who ask for advice and then do the opposite or nitpick the advice. The latest is an former friend who is going to register for IMFL. She is looking for halves that fall in the prep range, and she doesn't want to travel far from Houston for these prep races. OK so I suggest several within easy driving distance of Houston from late August to mid-September. Well they're just too hot. Well no s#$t, it's the end of summer in the South!!! You want a cool weather race in Texas in August/September???? WTF??? |

First 5 - 10 miles on the bike are going to be "easy" to help for your HR, then you'll start to push. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am going to run & lift tomorrow! Woohoo! I found a few short races I'm going to do in the next couple months - local 5k in a few weeks, 4 mile toward the beginning of November, and the 5 mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. I think these shorter races will keep me motivated this fall, but I don't know about those long winter months....it's so dark and cold already! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope everyone had a great weekend!! I know I did Friday 5 mile bike 1 mile run brick to prep for saturday race. Saturday - 1/2 mile swim 15.9 bike 3 mile run Deruyter Tri I swam a 14:29 Bike 42:17 for 22.42 mph Ran 19:56 @ 6:38 pace Took 1st overall and beat my last years time by over 4 mins. The race conditions were awful with 15-20 mph sustained winds. Water was super choppy and bike was a 3 loop rectangle so the wind helped and hurt you and for the run it was at our backs on the way out and in our face on the way back. Finished the race and tacked on anpther 5 miles before the awards ceremony at 8:20 pace. Woke up at 5:45 on Sunday and headed out for a 20 miler 2:45 @ 8:11 pace And Hit the rode at 5:30 this morning for a loosen up run 5 miles pace 7:50, Legs felt good TOMORROW MASSAGE!!!!! |
