I know you had mentioned this previously but I am sorry to hear about you needing surgery. It's amazing how you have persevered and were back in the pool so quickly. Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks.  We do what we can.

RGR, If I recall correctly you had an injury that kept you out of the pool for a while.  Despite that, you put together some terrific numbers this month.  Congrats!

well I almost hit my goals for the month which tells me they are definately stretch goals and hard to hit...but I cam pretty close. Would have been nice to have Sunday to add intoi my totals. Anyway....

My weight loss has leveled off a bit. Probably need to keep a better count on my caloric intake. Nevertheless, clothes fit is loose so something is working.

February's totals:
Bike:7h 18m 40s  - 142.44 Mi
Run:8h 33m 55s  - 46.38 Mi
Swim:4h 25m  - 9150 Yd
Strength:35m
Aerobics:35m

Team, have a few questions:

 1) anyone ever complete a Vo2 max test to establish some good HR zones?

 2) anyone use a powermeter for cycling?

We had a local endurance sports symposium, met Sarah Haskins(2008 Olympian)and got lots of great info yesterday. I am sure that I want to do some testing to get better HR zones. I have been using the 220-age and I the more I have been HR training, the more I would like to make sure my zones are good. I live right next door to a nice sports performance center and they offer both test ($150 each) not sure I need both test. I posted the question to the general tri forum and look forward to seeing the responses I get.

As for the power meter - I have heard it's the best for cycling training from everyone I have met, but the price is pretty steep. There's a new low price option this year, but not sure about quality. It's on my wish list for right now! :-)

I did schedule a bike fit for my road and tri bike (no more procrastination)!

10K's are hard races.. pace setting is an issue.. though i've only run one.. i can tell you a lot..

Team,

I am traveling to Europe this week, so I apologize in advance for a quiet week. I have a 10k this Saturday that I am going to run at Tri pace (meaning slow!) so I can keep my HR in a realistic zone. Have a great week.

When signing up for my tri, the application asks for my time swimming 100 yards.  Do I put down my average speed for 100 yards of the tri's swim distance, or how fast I can swim 100 yards?  The difference is about 15 seconds.

It's a pool swim.  I don't mind people passing me, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable passing anyone during the swim.  It's kinda rude, right?

you want to put your average time... race day you will swim a lot faster.. so don't worry to much.

rude.. nah, not really.. the 100yd time request is so they can put you in the right spot.. people are entering the pool every 15 sec.. some people fudge there time.

so you may get to the race at 7 am... but you may not enter the water until 10 o'clock.

Thanks guys. Tried to get as much sleep as I could last night. Was able to run a 1:01:35 though. Keep HR below 175 until my sprint to the finish line after mile 6. Splits were: 10:28(mile 1 - trying to keep my own pace!), 9:45(mile 2), 9:45(mile 3), 9:44(mile 4), 9:52(mile 5 - slowed for water stop), 9:45(mile 6), 7:47(last .2 mile).  Average HR was 162. Weather was great - hope you all have a great weekend and some warm weather as well.
