Veteran 1773![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerSorry about the knee, Tricupcake... Walk it off, walk it off! I'd say drink it off, but not sure if the pain would stay gone after the hangover??? One of my cats is having some teeth pulled today... He went in early this morning, and instead of pulling I think 2, they need to get like 4-5. (He is getting older too, about 13 y/o), and he's starting to thin out, I'm so jealous! He's going to be one sore cat when he gets home this evening. Has anyone had to deal with a pet having teeth pulled before? Alright, so this friday Dad and I start gutting two bathrooms, for a full remodel. And unfortunately the air conditioner in the house is out. So it seems I can't get away from the heat this summer... Except in my own basement where it's 20 below 0. Down here I have to wear a sweater just to jump on the computer. |

My advice is stay focus on your goals, work hard, and be honest with yourself. After that, the rest is light hearted competition between group members, self improvement, and cheering eachother on. You'll have fun, lose some weight, and definately become athletes here !!! --Josh R. |

Veteran 1773![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerI know, and I'm being passive-aggressive, and indecisive about my training. I've put so much into working every night that it's hard to know what to do on an actual vacay. Maybe I should ask comet where to get some really good fried fish? Besides that will give me new purpose when I get back (lose the weight I've gained)! Edited by i146q 2008-08-19 3:08 PM |

Veteran 1773![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dayton, OH | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerAs far as future projects to finish while the summer is in full force: Gut two bathrooms, re-do to porches, painting too. Install shower in a third bathroom, and finish the bathroom in my basement, which basically needs some paint on the ceiling after our recent remodel and to reattach the door. Then comes cleaning the garage, and toolbox! Forget pain in the knee, more a pain in the a*# ! Edited by i146q 2008-08-19 3:20 PM |

Master 1887![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Loveland, Ohio | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerI had an awesome run today. I ran 2.5 miles at about 10 minutes/mile. This was the most I've run in 10 years. [I did a 5K on a whim with my crew team in college. ("We Are...Marshall." Go Herd!)] Anyway, this is good news as my second tri the second week of September is a 5K. My first one was a 2-miler. I still hate running, though. Bleh! |

Regular 98![]() ![]() ![]() Poplar Bluff, MO | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerOkay...I am a touch scared of my weigh-in tomorrow....my first tri is Saturday and I really think I am ready...excited nervous worried but I think prepared. My training partner (also on his first tri) borrowed a bike with clip in pedals and is having a tough time with them. Of course I told him it was a mistake to borrow a bike this late in the game not having ridden it at all before this week but what do I know? |

Member 46![]() Chicago suburbs | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the Cornerlkagop-good work on the running! tricupcake-take care of yourself I can hardly keep up with all these posts! So running is no longer my nemesis, but swimming still is. I talked to a personal coach yesterday who said he coached beginners, but did not seem very sensitive to my fear or hesitation towards the swimming, and insisted very strongly that I just go do a sprint tri before the season is over. Sooo I won't be purchasing his services because he's a little over my head and didn't seem too interested in listening to me. I'm going to go get a book at the library on triathlon training instead. |

6 | Subject: RE: Team Skinny (Aug 2008) Turning the CornerThank you so much. I'm sure I'll have questions galore. I just went to the gym and then stopped at the bookstore to look at "Triathlete" magazine. Wow. Quite overwhelming. And the ads. I didn't know what lots of those gadgets were for. Or the food-type products. |

Walk it off, walk it off! I'd say drink it off, but not sure if the pain would stay gone after the hangover??? I think drinking would be bad. I was completely sober last night when I fell. Maybe that was the problem!!!??? Give it a few days, and I'm sure icing isn't that bad of an idea (as mentioned, I think by cad). but if pain get's worse I would recommend at least alternating heat and cold to drive back any inflammation, and possible sprain. On to injuries from this summer... It seems that, this summer has been unusually high for injuries, at least for me. And the weirdest part is that they are not healing as fast as they usually do, nor are they that serious, considering how well in shape ( I think) I am... I've got a few bruises, one on my right calf (about the size of an apple) and another on my left hand (back side, and only about the size of a half dollar), but both have been with me now for over 6 wks. I thought that as the bruise usually heals from the inside out that blood released from the injured area would have been reabsorbed into the surrounding tissues by now. And for fear of jumping on the "Anemic" bandwagon, does anyone have any thoughts as to injuries sustained by athletes and possible reasons for longer than normal healing? First, I usually heal very quickly! (bruises, sprains, and cuts included) And since my diet isn't much different from let's say about a yr ago, what's going on? There aren't any medications to complicate matters either, other than IBU, and the occasional Excedrin. It's more perplexing, than anything, just wondered! |

You know some of those people, I find frustrating as hell!... But realize this it sounds that what you're hoping for are all the answers so that when the race does come around there might not be as many surprises... And as much as I hate to say it, but he kind of has a point. You won't know completely what your frustrations/weak points are (because all races are different, even just based on the course they're run on) until you get your hair wet! Now, also realize this!!!!! If information is what you need, there is a wealth of info- at your fingertips --> TEAM SKINNY, let us help, if and or where we can! Another thing you might try is a local tri club, if they are accepting new members they should be more than willing to give you a more personal touch to help increase the level of efficiency of your training. If it's in swimming, ask a life gaurd, or a friend who has some experience in the water to help evaluate your stroke/breathing technique then compare to what you might find in current literature you're reading. Most of what I hear is that a lot of people have problems with open water swims (i.e. lake swimming) So, if you can sign up for a race, find info about the course then perhaps train for that, I think that might help. |

I'm up this week 140.8. But since I'm sorta on the ole workout hiatus, it's to be expected :-) |
