in this thread it states that you can not have your bike shoes stuck on your bike you must put them on your feet and then run with them on to the bike mount line...

I can second the responses on that other discussion.  At IM Wisconsin last year only the pros were allowed to keep their shoes clipped into their pedals.  I was fortunate enough to have a really low number, and thus my bike was only ~15 feet from the mount line.  All I heard as I carried my shoes to my bike were the click-clacks of others as they trotted with their bikes to the mount line.

Someone else suggested to carry the shoes with you and get OUT OF THE WAY at the mount line and put your shoes on there, but that is highly race specific and could lead to a lot of trouble on race day.

As far as IM Louisville goes, isn't their T1 on grass?  That may or may not help the 'trot' in the bike shoes, but its something to consider.  I've debated keeping my shoes attached to my bike and just 'see what happens' in T1 (with regards to having any sort of penalty enforced for keeping them clipped in) but better safe than sorry, I guess.

This was from the 2009 Ironman Louisville Athlete Guide:

"Helmets and cycling shoes may be brought into the transition area on Saturday or race morning, but must be clipped/attached to the bicycle. No loose gear will be allowed on the ground next to the bicycles."

and

"Shoes must be in the bike gear bag or secured to bike pedals. Shoes may NOT be beside the bike. Shoes and shirt must be worn at all times."

But that doesn't mean they haven't changed their mind.  But I believe that some of the events that it wasn't allowed at were actually before last year's IM Lou so maybe they'll leave it as is.  I would definitely be prepared for both (though I won't be doing anything on race day that involves "flying"...little too clutzy for that)

Rode the course Saturday 3-27 and the bridge is still out.  I'm not doing the IM, just rode the course for fun while in town.  Course is tough.  Plenty of hills.  Great country ride... Enjoy

Hope everyone's training is going well.  I am currently at a standstill.  I may have a torn meniscus and have to back out.  Worst case scenario - surgery and miss about a month of training.  I just felt the pain last Tuesday and saw the doc on Wednesday.  It feels much better after rest and NSAID's.  If rest doesn't fix it, cortizone + an MRI is the next option, then after all else fails, surgery.  Luckily the docs seems to think is might be a small tear on the outside, which should heal on it's own.  If the worst case scenario comes true, I'm actually looking at B2B.  I did a 30 min trainer ride today and it felt fine.  My fingers are crossed.

Good luck, Jeep!  FWIW, I have no meniscus in my L knee and am able to run w/o issues.  I wear a cho-pat dual strap on the knee and it provides enough pressure to support my knee.  (Full disclosure: I also had the center 1/3 of my patellar tendon removed to replace a torn ACL in the same knee.

On bad days, 4 advil and lots of roller work take care of soreness/pain.

Hope you make it to race day!

Thanks corn!  I appreciate that.  Kind of what I need right now.  Positive thoughts.  I am mainly having trouble with inclines right now.  Flat surfaces I feel great.

Anyone who knows the area or did the race last year stay at the Sheraton in Jeffersonville?  I just found out that was there.  I have about 5 free nights at Starwood hotels and will definitely use a few for the race.

I'm staying in Jeffersonville as well.  Only 1.5 miles from the race so not too bad.

Ditto for Jeffersonville.  We have a couple of rooms at the Townplace Suites.  With the family coming, I wanted to be able to cook for the kids a couple of nights.  That, coupled with the cost savings, made the most sense to me.

Just found this post on the Triathlon Talk forum regarding restrictions on wetsuit thickness and speedsuits in Ironman events:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=201843&posts=16&start=1

The article that is referenced is one from slowtwitch:

http://www.slowtwitch.com/News/USAT_okays_WTC_rules_1277.html

The intial post on BT says that swim speedsuits will be banned come June 1st (I assume of this year).  The slowtwitch article references a date of Sep 1st, 2010.  Either way, it seems pretty official (no April fools day prank here, as the decision appears to have been announced yesterday).

Either way, my brand new Xterra Velocity .02 speedsuit that I got in the mail yesterday is headed right back for a refund.  It was an investment that I only saw using in Iron distance events, and even if the Sep 1st date is the actual ban, the investment is not worth one race to me.  Sort of throws a wrench into my plans for Louisville swimwear.

I guess swimskins wouldn't be permitted by FINA because it is an additional layer.  But I still think that triathlons should utilize different rules because we wear things for two other disciplines following the swim.  You cannot rationalize swimming in a traditional tri top for an iron distance swim because it has pockets that drag through the water and now you can't wear a layer over that to reduce that drag and WTC doesn't allow you to go topless.  Apparently, they really want you to HTFU.  There will be an even greater disparity in swim times between wetsuit legal and non-wetsuit legal races now.

If anyone hears anything about speedsuits  (june versus september) at louisville, please let me know.  I wore a speedsuit last year and it made a huge difference with drag. i am praying i will not have to wear a tri top for the swim, the comments about the drag effect is correct.

I was kind of thinking about the same thing except in a different way.  I thought I saw guys without tops in some of the videos.  I am now debating whether to get a speed suit or not.  If I have to wear a top, I will go with a speed suit.  If not, I'll have to think about it a little longer.  If I did a few non wetsuit legal races, that would be one thing, but I don't really do any so I guess I could save the $100.  Maybe that just means I need to add a few more late season races.  Hmmm.

I wrote into the louisville ironman website and asked if the ban takes effect june or sept 1.  They wrote me back and said for right now, the ban is for sept 1 so speedsuits will be allowed.  However, I got the disclaimer about review the athletic guide, etc etc in case they change their minds. My coach has friends from wtc and she is asking several of her sources as well.

I live in Austin and my training buddy and I are doing IMKY this summer and are interested in finding some other people in the area who might be interested in scheduling some of our long rides or long runs together.  Anybody out there that is doing Louisville that lives in the Central Texas area that might have an interest in putting something like this together?

If so, either post something here, or better yet, message me directly here on BT.  I can compile some e-mail addresses and circulate a group e-mail.

We typically try to ride on Saturday and run on Sunday.  Our rides often involve the dam loop or going out Parmer and Ronald Reagan Parkway.  We both live Northwest.  We are up for trying some different routes if others have favorites to suggest.

Hope to hear from some of you!

Disc as long as it is still relatively light.

Good luck to everyone that starts today!  I'm 10 weeks in to Be Iron Fit's 30-week plan and it's been fun so far.  Build starts in a couple of weeks; that's when it will start to get long!.  To date, long ride has been 48 miles, long run 10 miles, long swim 3K.

So far, so good!

Started the 20-week plan this morning!  Saw the posts last night and this morning. Had me fired up thinking about others who are on this journey as well!

Hotel is booked for my wife and me. We are staying in Jeffersonville at the Towne Place Suites.

I am pretty sure everything is in order.  Now all I have to do is train for 20 weeks...oh yeah, that.

Here's to a fun, safe journey for all!  See you at the starting line!

PS Any other Central Texans interested in meeting up for an occasional ride or run? Drop me a note and I will help coordinate. So far it looks like we have 3 or 4 of us.

Just got back from the first ride of my training plan!  It was the first time being back on my tri bike since IMAZ last november.  I have to run after work, which shouldn't be a problem.  Tomorrow I have to hit the pool though and haven't been swimming since AZ either so that might be a little rough.  It's a long way to Louisville; can't wait!
