It makes complete sense. why kick so much when all that kicking just doesnt perform as well as gliding and everything in unison. I think the 2 beat kick is for me. Anyone else use that, just curious? (Donto, sorry to hear you have to back off alittle). I do that is how I was taught to swim, my girlfriend that is also doing the tinman, kicks a lot/hard and I conviced her that the 2 beat kick was better at least for triathletes. |

I'll let you know if it works. Wow! The two beat kick looks like it's right up my alley. I've always felt like my legs were working way too hard as I swam. I'm going to have to get that thing perfected! Edited by FWSquatch 2010-02-20 8:23 PM |

Elite 5316![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedWell, lets just call that a learning experience. Thermometer says 45F.... ok well that's not too bad. I set out with intermediate gloves, windproof shell up top, wool socks, full head/facemask in the pocket just in case. Hrm... windy that is a bit brisk, and there goes the sun behind the clouds. Well, going up hill, so not too bad and into the the trees so a little less wind, kind of down wind now. Fine all the way to the top (snow level around 5000feet). Hrm wind blowing across the snow is a bit cold. Then it is time to turn around and come down (18 miles out). Less energy output, into the wind, brrrrr. Hands and feet going numb, have to stop and warm up hands under armpits several times... which it turns out drops core body temp some. That can't be good. News flash... shivering on the bike makes it hard to ride because it makes you wobble. Yup shivering for 45 minutes. I finally got on the flats and just cranked to try to raise core temp. With HR up at 140 I got core up enough to stop/slow the shivering. I figure temp was 25 F colder with windchill on top of the hill. Man that was not happy. Mental note... dress more cautiously in the winter. |

Pro 6582![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Melbourne FL | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedIf anyone here uses a Kurt Kinetics bike trainer (or CycleOps fluid trainer), it has been determined on this thread that using the KK power meter/computer works pretty darn well when compared with a Power Tap (on the trainer only). I'm pretty happy about this because of the HR lag and there's nothing better than going by power with a bike workout. Someday maybe I'll be able to afford a Power Tap meter but until then my indoor trainer rides are going to be by power using their computer. |

I have a computrainer (uh, well, we have a computrainer, but my bike sems to stay on it : ) and my hubby rides his K.K. trainer & power meter/computer. it's no c.t., but gives him reads that are comperable to the c.t. when he gets to use it!! |

For swimmers w/ a larger kick (more of a scissor kick) I have them use a 4 beat kick to keep it smaller and more efficient. |

Elite 5316![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedI just needed to upgrade the gloves, put on some biking pants, possibly a thermal shirt and I would have been fine. I just underestimated the drop in temp from elevation gain and windchill + downhill with little energy output. |

Pro 6582![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Melbourne FL | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedNice Run Baowolf! I got out this morning, somehow, someway I did (NOT a morning person) and it felt great. 4.5 miles at easy Z2 pace then last mile build for 10k finish simulation. Wife and I are doing a 10k this weekend, weather right now is for it to be cold yet again (upper 30's) for race start. McMillan's run calculator says I should be able to PR based on this months 1/2 Mary time, so it PR or bust! |

Good news is that I have 14 weeks to get these up for the Sprint A-race. |

Going skiing after all that snow, its not often we get these kinds of conditions, powder that is on the Mtn. The nick name for our mtn is Ice Face!!! Yesterday got all messed up and I ran out of time for my run.....Today I should be able to get all my work outs in, so far my bike is done though I didn't finish my last 10 minutes b/c someone got hungry and wouldn't wait just ten minutes for mommy to finish. Oh well, he comes first!!! Hope everyone has a great day!! Edited by Mommyintraining 2010-02-23 12:27 PM |

Plus, we've got some old friends coming in to town to run it with us. We've got us a 10 man team and we're gonna take this thing by storm. Afterwards, we plan on devastating some bratwursts and beer at my house. Lookout Cowtown! Here comes the Angry All-Squatch Brigade! (Weird name, I know. It's a long story). |

Member 24 NE Texas | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedHey Everyone, I am still here... TT in swimming and bike this week. The sportcounter for lap counting works well. It has adjustable band to fit around the forefinger and a single button for lap counting. All it does is count laps but it works well; however, I wouldn't know if it was off or not because i can't keep up with the laps myself. Still counting down the days till my first try... James |

Pro 6582![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Melbourne FL | Subject: RE: Kati's MOMMA training group - ClosedLog tip... If you are logging mostly in distance vs time, you can change your logs mini graphs to be in distance. Mini graphs don't lie so get the volume credit due! It's always good to see how much training your doing over the past months time. Select 'Settings' on the BT top toolbar. 'Training Log Settings' tab, then the 'Log Defaults' sub tab. One the 4th line from the bottom, change the "Show minigraphs in :" to Distance. |
