nichip - 2010-04-10 4:53 PM I have AWESOME news my Ghoulie friends. I can RUN again! Thank God ! I went to a chirpractor yesterday who diagnosed my problem as chondromalacia patellae. He did A.R.T. Active Release technique, ultrasound therapy, gave me an adjustment, and applied kinesio tape. Yesterday I ran 1 mile and today I ran about 1.75! that is more than i have been able to run in 3 weeks. I am ecstatic! have a great weekend everyone! Nichi

WOOHOO!!!

nichip - 2010-04-10 7:37 PM well, now that I am running again,Ihave a question. How many miles could I safely run in a week? go ahead and look at my logs. I haven't done much in the last 3 weeks. Before that, I was up to 12 miles for my long run and 30 plus miles per week. I do not want to start all over again.but, i also do not want to reinjure myself by doing too much.My plan is to do a 4.6 mile run on monday with some friends. i ran with them today and we did an easy 12 minute mile pace. The only thing i will do differently is to do a run/walk ratio of 1:1. i was doing 2:1 before my injury. I see my chiro on wed. Thanks for your help! it is greatly appreciated.Nichi

You know your body better than anyone else.

If this were me though, this is what I would do. I would do the 4.6 on Monday, maybe 2ish miles on Tuesday, 4.6 again on Wednesday. Take Thursday off, run 2-3 on Friday, then Saturday do a long run of maybe 8 or 9.

If you had built yourself up to 12 miles, you did not lose all of your fitness in 3 weeks. You need to ease back into running though.

You don't want your long run to be more than 1/2 of your total miles for the week, some people even say more than 1/3, to prevent injury.

Good luck

Going to Kansas City tomorrow so I won't be around - withhold the cheers until I am gone please - LOL

Hey Bill, how long are you going to be in KC?  And where are you staying?  I lived down on the Plaza about a gazillion years ago.  Fun place.

I ran 4 this morning.  Will be a light week with my Half Mary on Sunday.

Beautiful day here.  Won't be getting a swim in tonight.  My wife bought new lights for the front of the house and I need to wrap up the taxes.  My wife also strongly suggested I think about taking a little more care of the lawn this summer which will be at the expense of my workout schedule.  It's all about balance.  Oh well, I got away with it as long as I could :-).

Anne - great idea - think the neighbors or my family would mind me mowing at 4:00am as part of a brick workout - LOL!

I am pretty sure that this would not go over well.

ironannekidd - 2010-04-12 7:06 AM
onevette80 - 2010-04-08 10:31 AM Last night I was doing some interval training on my bike.  I just went from a roadie to a P2 and am still not comfortable for long periods of time in the aero position, so I end up not in the aero position for most of my ride.......
Soooooo, heres my prob.  When Im doing intervals on my trainer and I drop down into aero, without changing cadence or gear, my HR drops by like 20bpm almost instantly!  I'm thinking theres an issue with my HR monitor(nike triax  c10)??? Or that body position in the aero position is significanlty more effecient.  I know that it is but.........?  20 bpm???  thats just crazy!!!
Any other reasons anyone can think of?

I was thinking about this yesterday on my run.

Did you by any chance change your breathing. If you were breathing through your mouth when you were upright, but then started breathing through your nose when you went aero that could explain the drop in HR. Breathing through your nose helps to regulate your heart rate.

*Keep that in mind. If you start feeling like you are working too hard, breathe through your nose and you will get your heart rate under control.

Anyway, it was just a thought.

You mean I'm not helping myself when I my tongue hangs out of my mouth and I am panting like a dog?

My St. Bernard impressions aside, this ?i?s?? ?p?r?e?t?t?y interes?ting.  I'll have to?? keep it in mind in the future!?

You could just do what an alumni of the University I work at is doing...he is throwing down 10-20% clover seeds in his grass seed mix because they help add nitrogen back into the soil while also covering up some of the bad grass patches.  He's just going to tell his wife it must be a bad year for clover if she asks.  He figures it will look greener and keep his lawn healther in the long run, while also getting him a little peace and quiet with his wife of 35+ years.

Then again, the 4 AM mowing brick sounds pretty good too!

So folks, What training is on tap for this week (assuming all our weeks go as planned)?

I am trying to figure out what, if any, training plan I am going to use now that the 1/2 is over. I have an uphill run race to train for. Obviously I need to do hills. I also need to get some quality biking and ANY swimming in as well. This week starts the biking and strength for real.

Light week for me.  I ran 4 this morning and will get in a couple swims and 1 more short run.  My 1/2 is on Sunday.

I am also going to have my 14 yo niece Thursday thru Saturday.  I'm expecting that the agenda will be full of shopping and sight seeing.  We'll probably spend at least 1 day in NYC hitting the sights and maybe a show.

So the porch light project is going as suspected.  Home projects are almost never 15 minute jobs like they should be.  New lights are much larger than the old ones and the people that built the house never shimmed the old ones properly. Two trips to Lowe's and I have one light up (out of four) and that light will be coming back down.  Affirmation that I should continue to procrastinate home projects for as long as possible :-).

I did get our taxes and my daughter's taxes done so all is not lost.
