Hey all - 5/32 age group, 63rd/613 overall men's. Happy with it, but mildly perturbed I missed a medal by two age group spots, and missed top 10% overall by 2 overall spots. Even more so because I came out of T2 in 2nd in my age group. Ah well - live and learn. Some definite problems - bad final swim turn, and obviously gassed a little on the run, so I feel good about knowing where I need to improve. Writing my race report now.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'm incredibly glad I did it this early, and had such close to good results. Huge motivator to take it to that next level. Plus side is, I definitely have a lot of room to improve. Speaking of which, race report is up, and mentions numerous spots where I could've done better:

Leegoocrap - 2010-06-20 7:59 PM It's strange, I'm finally starting to feel like I may be able to finish this crazy Ironman in September! 4 Hour ride today and I feel great.

Awesome!  I hope you're getting excited!!

Wow, sorry about being out of it for the past week. Between work, travelling to Cali for a friend's b-day and trying to fit in training... it's been a hectic couple weeks. I'm finally recovered from the HIM, and still so happy with how it went. I can't wait to do another, but it's not in the cards this year. For now I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with training for the rest of the summer. I don't want to just wing it since I tend to over do it and then get overuse injuries (not so fun). I know I want to be in stellar shape for a trip up to Alaska in August and then I really want to have a good showing at the local town tri in September since it'll be the one race my friends will see. I swear they think I make up how much I train since I tend to be exhausted from training when we do mountain bike rides or easy group jogs. That and I tend to do all my hard workouts solo so I can focus better. So I need to figure out some kind of schedule rather than just making it up as I go.

Other than that, I ran a 10k followed by a 5k at the local town festival this weekend. Ran a 50:39 10k, which is a PR for me by nearly 7 minutes from my time last Memorial day!! And then I pulled off an okay 5k a few minutes later. Fun weekend! To think a 10k was a huge struggle last year, I feel blessed to have made so many improvements since last year. Hard work does pay off.

If you are looking for something a bit more scheduled, Jorge's cycling plan is a good one to fall back on.

15k in one day huh, that's pretty awesome, and great time on the 10k! And a 7min/best. Well done, excellent job so far

Finally got all my logs updated (except for weight, but that requires sitting next to the Wii Fit for a weekend), and am back in the swing of things. Work has been crazy the last few weeks, and I felt mildly like I might drowned - worse than my first OWS, even. It may not be any extra downtime, perhaps just renewed vigor from having completed my first race. My pep has apparently been contagious, as a buddy of mine signed up for a sprint very soon, because he didn't want to wait for Nation's in September. He wanted me to do it with him, but I declined, and instead we're both going to do the Cleveland Oly in August. September is just too far away to wait. Plus, it coincides to the day with a training tri on my workout plan, so I have to do it. Guess that means I'll be wesuit shopping soon.

Glad to see you got a friend into it as well!!  Nicely done!  And if you're looking for a good wetsuit, I got an Xterra one with the BT promo code, it's a pretty good deal.

Yea, he's a former rowing teammate. Tried to get him to do the Half Iron with me but he balked on cost. I'm pumped he'll be doing Cleveland with me, because I'll get something to shoot for. Kid's an animal - born to be a triathlete. Former successful high school swimmer, runs an 18 minute 5k, and rowed, so the bike will come with training. And I'm definitely using the BT code if I go with Xterra - been eyeing that ad.

Nope... not for me. I've got this weekend off, an Oly next weekend and a 70.3 the weekend after (Rhode Island). What about you?

Bachelor Party tonight (all my friends seem to be getting married off!) - Two hours on the bike and a swim tomorrow - Sprint Sunday morning, and then a two hour run after it. Should be a busy weekend. I will be running the Tri bike this weekend so hopefully my bike time will be pretty solid.

I have a 60-mile bike "tour" (which is apparently not a race) in Manhattan this weekend. Should be fun!

Century ride?

Those are the best, but make sure you *DON'T* trust the cops that are supposed to be blocking traffic... I've almost died a couple of times doing that.

Ooh, really? That's definitely good to know- especially in the city.

And I didn't go for the full century ride this time- maybe next year.

Most people (cops included) just don't realize exactly how fast somebody can move on a bicycle.

I've had a cop look directly at me as I was coming downhill, (I know he saw me) then wave on a truck... almost putting me down for good haha.

Alright guys i have to vent/have a question.
So i just started with the whole Tri thing (about 3 months training now) and these days i find myself spending more and more money on training clothes like socks and shorts and shirts then i do on everyday clothes.  Part just do to the fact i was always running out of underwear and super tired of having to do laundry 12 times a week (at least that's what it feels like)

But on a good note i do tend to be a lot cleaner these days do to all the showers i have to take now

So is this normal? did you guys all go through this all ready and i will slow down with all the shopping once i get enough gear?

Hope everyones training is going awesomely

First place in my age group in the sprint I did today! Woohoo!! Much better than I expected considering I went the wrong way on the bike course, AND went out the wrong exit of T2 and had to circle back around.

It definitely gets a bit easier on the wallet after a while. Some good (cheaper) idea's.

Target's C2 clothing line. Their running shorts and technical shirts are great.
Buy a swimsuit specifically for pool training (not the mixtures of material that die in chlorine)
Socks from wal-mart
Shoes from Runningwarehouse
Bike stuff - it's just expensive haha.

I'll second that it does slow down. You can keep buying gear/clothing forever probably, but you do get to a point where you have enough. I'll add a couple more ideas, nextag.com is great for finding good deals on things if you know what you want. Also bonktown.com, cycling stuff from backcountry.com, one deal at a time.

Did my first Oly yesterday, 2nd in the AG. Awesome bike course, good amount of climbing, but some steep downhills.  I almost hit 47 mph on one, I'd never gone that fast before!

Good job on the races, guys! Congratulations. You're studs.

I was shocked at how much the cycling stuff costs, but I think once you stock up it should slow down. I'm all about Marshall's for training clothes and socks (don't know if there are Marshall's over the country or not).

I did my 55-mile bike tour yesterday. It was fun but HOT. The last twenty miles were basically along a highway and I could just feel the heat radiating from the asphalt. Brutal. But I felt accomplished! My right knee is bothering me a little today, but I'm going to go jump in the ocean and hope the cold water helps.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends!
