I blew off the 5k run last night.  All the entry fee money goes to a great charity, so I don't feel bad about forgoing that.  I just wasn't in the mood to do battle with 1800 or 2000 other runners on a short, tight course.  So I decided to get up this morning and do my 5k.  But alas, I blew that off too! Cry

I will swim at lunchtime and I'm still on target for goals this month.

Yes... I'm feeling quite slack-tastic lately!  I did get a short swim in at lunch, but then they closed the pool... read my blog if you want the dumb details.  So I played racquetball instead.

I got in my short swim.  Had a "chatter" in the next lane...  He was a retired firefighter so I thought I owed it to him to listen   Off to check your blog for details...

could be the temp change or if you ate foods higher in sodium, I say drink more water and see if that helps.

Had a good swim yesterday...deffinatly an eye opener as the waves were rollin in and the water was about 60ish!  I will need to do more practice in choppier water. then hit the bike course, felt great even in the 90 degrees! but then the storms rolled in and had to cut it short. The weather changed so quick! We were riding and feeling the heat one moment then the winds picked up and almost blew us off our bikes and then it was pouring rain...and we were freezing! Had to walk our bikes to a church and found shelter under the entrance. Had a friend come and pick up up, we were about 16 miles from our car but overall it was a good day.

Got a quick OWS in today followed by a short Mtn Bike ride.  Planned 6 mile run tomorrow.  I've got my annual Physical Fitness Test coming up next week for the Marine Corps so I am trying to not burn myself out before that.  Once that is done I can turn up the volume on my workouts.

My first ever biathlon today.  It was kind of fun.  I tracked down the guy with the results, who had some complex about letting go of the page so others could see - and after telling him my name 4 times inside 40 seconds he was able to tell me my overall time (1:15) and place.  (10th)  I was fairly pleased with that until he told me there were ten males entered....oh well.  Better luck next year.

pdbman - 2010-06-17 12:11 PM I have my first big race of the season tomorrow. I'm running the Ragnar relay here in Utah. I hope all goes well. I haven't done any running for the last two weeks with our trip to Mexico and my legs are a little stiff. I may head out for a short run this evening to try to loosen up a little. Plus my feet and ankles are a little swollen. Anyone have a problem with swelling or have any idea what can cause it?

Swollen ankles, huh?  The medical term is called "Kankles" and it's brought on by drinking too much beer and eating too many Big Macs.  Just kidding... I have no idea!  Good luck with the race tomorrow, Paul!

Kankles huh. Well, I don't drink alcohol, or typically even something as hard core as a soda, and I'm not a fan of Big Macs so I don't think that's it. But thanks for the suggestion.

Or pregnancy.

I don't think I'm pregnant but I can run to the store and get a test if I can't find another explanation.

Excess fluid?

Seriously  - good luck on the race!

I'm voting for the temp change and sodium intake. I had a ton of high salty foods and Gatorade to help compensate for the excessive sweating I did with our service project in Mexico over the last two weeks. Its now several days later and things are looking much better. My weight has also dropped back down so I think I should be fine.

Good luck on your physical fitness test. I enjoy pushing myself but have never enjoyed these kinds of tests. I don't like the external pressure to perform.

I wasn't too happy with my relay race performance. My first leg was in the heat of the afternoon and I didn't do as well as I thought I would have. Second leg was at night so it was cooler. I did OK but still not as well as I had hoped. When I woke up this morning (after about three hours of sleep) my knees were stiff. I tried massaging them but as soon as I started running my third leg they tightened back up again. I did better than I thought I would considering the knee issues. Overall it was disappointing. I think I did better when I did this race two years ago with only three weeks to prepare.

Ran the relay with the same team that I ran with two years ago. Not all of the faces were the same but some were. Several talked about how they have started or want to start doing triathlons. One even did the Boise half ironman last weekend! I was very impressed that he would do a half ironman when he knew he had another big race the next weekend.

So no more lazy training for me. I swear I was the slowest one on the team. I did pass a couple of people but I was getting passed right and left. I will work harder and train smarter. I won't just go out for a lazy run when I go running. I will have a purpose and I will work harder.
