I'm following a thread about it in the MD forum.  There is a mixture of opinions on the course.  I'll let you know how things pan out and if I sign up.

My dog ate my bike.

Seriously, I don't have enough volume in my biking legs to do the intensity.  Plus the plan is a bit of a marketing pitch.  I'm going to stick my well rounded plan.  I'll start adding in the intensity after my half marathon.

Another topic for you fish (Sands) I've finally founf the pool again, and I'm working on improving my catch and pull. This means i have to stop pushing down from my shoulder, and keep my elbows high. I know I'm doing it, I see almost every swimmer at the pool doing it. It's very common. I'm making the corrections, but I've slowed down dramatically. For lack of a better analogy, it feels like I'm in the small chainring spinning down a hill. Does this make since? Any suggestions? I know this will make me a better swimmer in the long run, but it's like I'm reconstructing my stroke.


I like the Tin Cup approach, "grip it and rip it."

How long have you been swimming?

2 years. My strokes not bad, got me thru an ironman. But I definitely need to make this correction.

Anybody have any recommendations for whey protien?

I'm looking to start making my own protien bars, and they call for whey protien. I have no idea about it, other than the fact that it's dairy protien.

Anybody have any insight? What I should look for? What I should avoid? Any ideas on what's a reasonable price?

I've found some as cheap as $6/lb (110cal, 3g carbs, 23g protien) up to $10/lb (100cal, 2g carbs, 24g protien).

I'm not SANDS, but I use cold tap water. I'm too cheap to fix my ice maker so the cold tap water works. Occasionally, I'll stop by the gas station and buy a bag of ice, but that's not often...


Coldest tap water that I can get.  In the winter it is bloody cold.

Something is wrong here.  Are you short arming your stroke and not extending enough?  If you are truly getting a good high elbow and then getting a proper Early Vertical Forearm you actually should feel lots faster.  It is really hard to know what is going on here without seeing it or a video.  When I get good days where I am really getting good EVF and rotating well I can feel it immediately. 

A good drill.

Yeah, its tough to explain. I'll try and post a vid soon. Its a minor correction, but I've been working with my swim coach on it for a while and have not been able to master it.


Trainer/treadmill brick today. Cut both sessions short and it still sucked. I'm ready for summer.

My mojo has returned. 

I got in a 8 mile run at 7:24 pace.  It was cold and I was hurting in a area that shouldn't hurt.   That makes it 33 miles for the week  and I'm hoping for another run tomorrow.

I also got in a good ride today, with a 30 minute interval a tempo wattage.



I need to rethink my cold weather running attire.

I'm new to riding on a trainer and have a few questions - First, my bike computer is on my front wheel, so I have no idea of distance or mph - is this a problem?  Should I upgrade my bike computer? Is there something that will work on my rear tire?  Secondly, is riding on the trainer equivalent to riding outside?  Am I doing myself a disservice by spending all my bike time on the trainer vs outside?  Thanks for any insight!  As a stay at home mom, it's so much easier to hop on the trainer than it is to find time to ride outside, so I'm hoping I'm getting in as good of a workout!

You're getting a good workout, don't worry.  Unless you are in Miami or San Diego, it may be a bit chilly to bike outside at the moment.  Unless you want to, I wouldn't think you need to upgrade your computer.  You can go by RPE and get a great workout.  Sweating in buckets is good.  Getting off and wavering because your legs are shot is good.  Just keep hitting the trainer and when it gets time to hit the road when it warms up you will enjoy the dividends.

I'm on a cycleops fluid trainer.  I seem to be getting a great workout on it, just wondered if I need to be concerned about speed or distance.  Thanks for the input.  Heading to the pool now.  It's hard to motivate to swim when it's so cold out!

Self serving update: Longest run ever for me today - 14 miles. pickles.gif Considering my legs were actually pretty tired from yesterday it turned out pretty well - 8:38/mile with 910 ft. of climbing. Only stopped once when my MP3 ran out of battery. I'm evidently not adroit enough to run *and* stuff my headphones up under my hat.

Now - pretty darn sore and tired. Tomorrow is a complete day off. Catching a plane tonight to Cocoa Beach. My run weather looks like it will be ~60 and sunny all week. tongue.gif The plan is to put in 40 miles this week. We'll see how that goes.

Getting on the trainer is probably a good bit more than some of us (me especially) are doing right now! If possible, can you move your pickup sensor to the rear wheel for your computer (if wired - don't try). Otherwise, just go by time and effort.

That'll be fine. You'll see huge dividends when you get out on the road. Me, I'll be at the back fighting to hang on as usual.

Good job!  I don't really those really long runs when I was training for my marathon last year.

My HM training starts today.  I've really slacked off recently so we'll see how it goes.  I was going to run this morning but it was 5 degrees and windy out side I opted to run after work at the gym.

After taking most of Nov, and all of Dec, I'm still hitting close to race pace as of this morning...

Pushed out a couple 100s @ <1:20, and some 200s @ <3:00, so hopefully that'll translate up soon enough.

Oh, and I was going through a workout booklet I keep from Apr 09 and I found some interesting stuff. I did a swim pyramid starting at 500s. The time on my 500 was 9:27 (1:53/100) & the 100 was 1:43. I think I'm a little faster now

My paces are coming along faster than I thought.  I glad I slacked off the end of last year, because my nagging injuries are gone.

OMG, just finished 20MP test. Suffering!! 22 watt increase from 4 weeks ago. I screwed up both tests by not having enough wattage set up on the CT erg file for the 20 minute interval. I averaged 102 rpm's for the test. Thats to high for me to put out maximum power. But, I did the same thing last test, so the improvement is real. For some reason when riding on a preset erg file the CT won't let you manually increase the tension. oh well. Could hardly walk up the steps. Cry

Awesome!  Nothin' quite like flying through the water.

I have definitely gotten faster from last year, as well.  I tell you, planned well we could sweep the awards in Pensacola.  Train hard, swim hard, and most importantly club every kid under 18 there and we have a shot!

Got on the trainer tonight.

Sand, Did the 20m power test.

Now, what do I do with the data?  How do I find my CP and/or FTP numbers?  I downloaded the data to Golden Cheeta.
