Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge owl_girl - 2011-03-13 6:27 PM I finished the 10 mile race in brutal conditions. I thought I had a PR! Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Oh well. The wind was howling and it rained the whole time. At one point, my pace slowed to a 10 minute mile due to the headwind! Sheesh! I'm still happy with my time because I know it would have been a PR had the weather been better. I have a race on Saturday and am hoping for good weather! Good for your powering through it! |

Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge What's in the works for everyone this week? I am going to buy a package of sessions from the yoga studio to make sure that I keep going. It's a good thing that I don't have spinning as a goal because my spinner is broken now. My friend was swinging the pedal back and forth in the bottom 180 degrees repeatedly and then I heard a crash, now the pedals won't move. Too bad I wasn't in the room because I would have stopped him! |

Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge Emmanem - 2011-03-13 2:24 PM Race today... first DNF Copied from my training log: My first DNF Really really really small race, not well organized but whatever it was just supposed to be a fun thing for me and they were raising money for their mission trip to DC. Ran about .5 mile then shins were on fire, chest hurt with every breath and it was only getting worse. James found me (he was walking around taking pictures) and walked the rest of the first loop with me. I'm disappointed but I know the important thing is keeping my shins healthy for my 10k not finishing a small 5k.
I'm just going to echo what everyone else has said - but good job listening to your body, pulling out when you need to. It's a sign of true strength.

That's too bad. Do you usually have problems with your shins?
Yes and No. Struggled with shin splints almost all last year until I started running completely from scratch. started running 10 minutes 3x a week and added 10% time each week. Since doing this I've had very little problems with my shins and this is the first time I've had a problem with them in over 2 months. |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge Thanks everyone for your kind words. Yesterday's race was really a bummer but I know it was for the best that I didn't finish. I'm just hoping now that my shins won't act up anymore so that I can train and race in the 10K I have coming up. |

Master 2055 Santa Clarita | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge Bagged the available time slot for my bike ride on saturday and watched tv instead . Well ... it was an Alfred Hitchcock movie i had never seen . Was more motivated (or perhaps less tired ) sunday , I joined our distance running group (usually about 30) who are tapering for LA marathon and were doing ten . Before the turnaround at mile 5 things were going rather well and i continued into a mountain park (mentryville) and ran a hilly 5 k course and then rejoined the ten route and headed back home . Was treated to shade ,steep canyon views , peace and quiet and many curious hares out for a morning nibble. I was privileged to be the first on the trail . I am prepping for a hilly trail half-marathon this month . the training run of great benefit for the upcoming hills and distance. Monday : Best workout after long runs or races : i swam . |

I have a hard couple of days still and then a couple days easy because I am fighting again on sat night. 5 rounds this time which I am nervous about, I'm trying to get my head in the right space and relax a bit! Bet you are looking forward to your race, its great that everyones race seasons have started - now ours is not so far from ending in Australia! I have just one more tri left, and a marathon and 160k bike. I think that will do though! Have a great week! |

Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge My feet are very swollen at 2 injury sites from my 10km run today... Limping along wondering what type of running is in my future. Too bad I've already paid for that half marathon in May. Worst case scenerio I can walk it, but that won't be much fun for me. On the bright side - the blistering is still at bay! I've been using the rubbing alcohol + double walled socks. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: March CRUSHERS U-Pick It Challenge I rode my bike to PT this evening. Ride there wasn't too bad with the exception of 2 left turns I had to make getting stuck at lights.....Had less than 1/2 mile between the turns so I stayed in the left shoulder. It scared the living snot out of me to have traffic on my right shoulder!! Ride home was a lot easier, only left turn was into my neighborhood and there was almost no traffic. |

Can't find the motivation to do anything more than to just sit here and relax and enjoy. You must not be in Utah! Definitely not in Utah. We're in Oceanside, CA. I finally dragged myself out, put on a wetsuit and hit the waves. I just watched the sunset and now I'm watching the pink gradually darken as the last of the light diminishes over the ocean. I could easily live like this if I didn't have to worry about silly things like money to pay for food and housing and stuff. I'm thinking a morning run along the beach is soundling nice. I'll see how long we stay up tonight before I decide how early that morning run will be. |
