rnihill - 2011-06-23 9:48 PM I just finished up a nice easy spin in front of the tv...  Now off to bed a bit early.  I need a clear head for packing up my race stuff tomorrow!

Have a good race!

If climbing hills on a bike builds character and headwinds p!ss you off, how should I feel after experiencing both during my short ride this evening?

You should feel very happy to be done with that ride and a little smug also because you did it. I absolutely hate headwinds though, as do we all surely? They make me feel so angry! I try and tell myself the whole time that they are making me a stronger rider but I just find it so hard to get past the irrational rage I feel!

Good job anyway! Oh, shoot, you're on the bike team....hmmm, well, maybe you should give the next few days of cycling a miss as a recovery treat? Wink

Well, last weekend of the challenge coming up, so  Go Bike team Go!!!

Swim and Run team, carry on as you were...

Think I'm on track to reach my goal, really good feeling but unfortunately will be one of my top 5 months of riding (other than when commuting in the 'old days').

My race starts a little after 8am tomorrow...  It's supposed to rain nonstop from 9 tonight and all through the day tomorrow.  Is there ANY point in trying to keep my race stuff dry?   UGH!

I'll take a break from the bike for a couple days, however, my ride on Sunday will put me over 100%. Cool

Well I think I may have found a place to live  I'm still at home but I've been calling around to different apartment complexes all week and it's been pretty discouraging. It's either too expensive or not available until late august (when our current leases expire 7/31) or not pet friendly.  Well I called an apartment complex today and they have 2 available.  I was planning on going back to Clemson on Wednesday but now I think I'll go back on Sunday and go sign a lease on Monday.  The pictures and floorplan I've seen online look perfect and I know people who have been there and say they are really nice apartments so I'm very excited to go check it out next week.

So you set up tonight? You might want to put your bike shoes and runnies in plastic bags, only because they're harder to put on wet, but other than that ... everything would get wet anyway since that's how you're coming out of the swim. Do you wear socks? Ditto.

GOOD LUCK WITH THE RACE ... you, too, are a mad mofo tri chick for doin' it in the rain.

Yep and I can't find any that are available when we need a new place or had too many bedrooms or rent was too much.

So I am injured again!! Luckily it doesn't technically affect this challenge, but it will affect my triathlon coming up. I hurt my wrist last Sunday at the Spartan Race (like a good Spartan!) and the hand department at my clinic today voted unanimously that I probably have a fracture. Rest, splint, x-ray...

I have been on my spinner all week to reduce pressure on it and now I have been advised to stay off of my real bike until I find out what's going on... BOO!

Yuck for you, hope you get it figured out and it heals fast!!!!!

Well this challenge didn't quite go as planned,

started off the month sick and busy at work so I didn't do my lunchtime runs the first week.  Second week was vacation and while I planned to be ambitious, I didn't get out of the camper in the morning as much as I thought I would have (had I remembered the challenge, that might have been the extra motivation to get out and do it)

So by the 12th of June, I was 21 miles behind where I planned to be (and had only run 5 miles for the month).  The next week, I ran close to my plan and then got a bonus race thrown in for some more miles.  Then I get a reminder that I had signed up.  I don't like letting my teams down so I figure out a "sensible" way to meet my monthly goal.

Five days later, my overall monthly goal seems in reach and my legs and body feel pretty good.  Always preferred riding to running and seldom strung many run days together in a row or been a high mpw kind of guy.  This might have been a good wake up call that I wasn't doing as much as I could have.

Might be a good launching pad for a more solid July!!!!!

Hey all - I've been sucking at logging/blogging lately. My apologies for that - I haven't been a very good team member! I am still swimming - will update the spreadsheets today.

Swimming's about all I've been doing - I too am injured (again) although it's just a minor hamstring pull that will heal in no time, it is the result of pushing myself to run 5K at the race last weekend undertrained and unprepared. It's scared me, and it's pointed out the obvious to me - I have no business racing right now. I have not been serious enough with my training, my base fitness was too crappy (read: nonexistent) so it could not carry me through, and I only have myself to blame.

I've done some deep thinking and soul-searching the past week - and I've decided to pull out of the triathlon I am registered for in 2 weeks (no, I'm not going just to have fun, this is so far from what I should be doing right now that it resembles nothing remotely close to fun) and the tri in August is tentative. I am still planning to swim in the relay in September (as I love swimming).

My plan now is to focus on weight-loss and just working out at the gym for fun, re-build my base fitness over the next 10 months then go at it hard next year.

A big part of this decision of mine was trying on my wetsuit last week, and discovering I can't get it up over my arse never mind on and zipped up properly. I need to lose 20lbs before I can even think about encasing myself in that suit, and I need that suit for all of my upcoming races. I cannot afford, nor do I intend, to buy (or rent) a "fat wetsuit". It's one thing to drop $100 on cheap "fat clothes" at the mall, but a wetsuit crosses a line for me.

I'm still going to hang out on BT because you people amuse me. :-)
But I'm not going to be using the logs here, as I've started a more detailed weight-loss journal off-line.

So there it is in all its ugly truth. Undecided
