I've done the race 5 times.  I think last year they made some great strides in decreasing the drafting.  I saw very little.  My first year I was oblivious.  Other years its been worse and blatant but there was a bigger USAT prescence last year on the bike course I think.

I will defer this years race for 2013. I was lucky enough to get a lottery pick. I'm going to Kona!! I want to thank WTC for deferring my entry  till 2013, at first I was told I was only to get 150 back . I hope everyone has a great racing season.I enjoyed Fl ironman last yearand will be back for 2013.

That surprises me as they aren't very generous about deferments...very very rare.

Congrats on the Kona lottery.

Thanks,Kathy,I'm very excited.I hope your rehab is progressing.

At first they were only going to give me 150 back for theFL IM,and 75 back for Augusta. I called the headquarters in Tampa and the lady I spoke with got  them to  defer FL, Augusta I'm only getting back 75.I'm glad they deferred, this trip is going to expensive enough. 750 entry to Kona ++

How many times did you put your name in the hat before you won a slot?  Not real sure how the lottery works and was curious how it works.  Don't think I'll ever qualify.

Had a quick reality check yesterday that I think might amuse some of you.  I had my regular bi-annual dentist appointment yesterday, and as usual, the receptionist asked me if I wanted to schedule my next appointment for 6 months out.  So, she threw out Tuesday Nov 6.  My typical response is to say 'yes', since I very rarely have any plans that far out in the calendar....but not this year.

AAAHHHH....6 months to go....180-ish days until the gun goes off!!

Training is going well, but scheduling that dentist appointment was like having a bucket of cold water thrown on me.

Oh well, back to training....see you all 'soon'.

Not so subtle reminder of how fast time flies!!

Quick question, where are most people on your long runs and rides at this point.

I'm getting my 5-6 days in at this point and am up to 9 miles on the run and 45 on the bike at this point.  3 bikes, 3 runs and 2-3 swims.  That seems Ok for most of the plans I've seen at this point, but I just want to make sure I'm not way behind the curve.

Also did St. Anthony's OLY last weekend for fun.  GREAT race!

Thoughts?

I am officially obsessed for the IMFL now. Last night I had a dream about the pre-race, walking around the transition areas and having the pre-race meeting. It wasn't even about the race! This weekend is my first OWS of the year, I'm expecting some cold waters here in MI.

I bought the Williams 58s last year about 2 months before IMFL. LOVE THEM! No problems at all. They rode well the entire race and I will be using them again this year. Buy them! You won't be sorry.

Think I'm pretty far behind in base building, but I'm finally training.  long run is only 6 miles at this point.  Long bike is 60 miles, and I've been in the pool twice in the last week.

Shoulder injured and I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing an Oly this weekend.  Usually the swim is my strong suite and I don't worry much about it.  I think I can do it, and it would make a fun training day.

Rookie question:  What are you going to do (or are doing) different in this IM training than you have in the past?  I am still dialing in what IM volume / intensity is going to look like for me after July.

So no problems with wind pushing you around using a 58 on the front?  That's the setup I was looking at too so just wanted to get your thoughts.  Thanks!

Kenott - 2012-05-04 8:39 PM Rookie question:  What are you going to do (or are doing) different in this IM training than you have in the past?  .

1) running more times a week.

2) Strive to get several 20+ mile runs in training before the race.   The run is my nemesis.

3) not get hurt with all the running.

4) Sleep more

Long run Friday was 12 mi and my bike today was 70.  OWS tomorrow will be about a mile.  But, I am training for Florida 70.3 in 2 weeks.  After that we will step back a bit then start to kick it back up the first of July.  I have a few sprints in there before July.

Not sure I am going to do anything different this time around.  Last year was about as good as I could ask for.  I was worried about the run because I only did one 19 mi run and a few 16, 14 miles.  When training for a marathon I used to run a lot more than that.  But, the run was fine.  Actually about 30 minutes faster than I had hoped.

Actually I might do 1 thing differently.  I won't take my time so much.  This time around I'll hurry in T1 and T2 a bit more and push the bike a bit more.

enjoy,

Duane

Not getting a stress reaction in my femur 8 weeks before the race! I barely did any run training those 8 weeks.  I suffered on the run.

i feel better after reading this. i've been a little worried that my coach isn't having me take my long runs out past 18. i've done 10 marathons and i've always done a few 20 - 22 milers as training runs. i'm also right about where are you in terms of training...this wknd will be 67mile bike, 13 mile run.
