Somebody just posted this link on the tritalk forum for swim workouts: http://www.ntcmastersswim.blogspot.com/

I thought it looked pretty good! Most of the workouts posted are on the longer side, but could easily be cut down to fit whatever distance you're currently comfortable with. It looks like they tend to post 1 technique/form focused swim, 1 speed focused swim, and 1 distance focused swim per week.

lunchtime jog = yum.

3.6 miles in 33 minutes.  Hair will look like crap for the rest of the day, but the body feels pretty good.

don't know why i don't do this more often.

Excellent!

My last job had a shower iin the bathroom. It made riding to work or running at lunch, much more enjoyable.

So honestly - my job doesn't (I work in the middle of desolation) and so I'm always afraid of grossing out my coworkers by not showering after coming back.

But I'm always like...I don't sweat that much! and it's not like I sit around the rest of the day in the clothes I go and run in.

I know this is kind of a stupid question...but what's everyone' thoughts?  Keep in mind I don't work in a "professional" enviornment, nor do I have "customers"...I share a trailer with 7 other people...and on any given day, I pretty much only have to itneract with them.  Am I just being completly gross here?  I mean, I still use deodarent and towel off the best I can given the availability of a sink...

I have to ask: What do you do for a living? Working in a trailer has me intrigued.

I don't think it's that gross- unless you're running super long or super sweaty.

I am a disgusting sweater So, I usually have to blow dry my hair after I work out- even if I don't shower.

I work in training on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation (we made the atomic bomb dropped on Japan so many years ago).  So I'm 35 miles from civilization and there are very few actual buildings on site.  Most of us work in "mobile units" (i.e. double wide (or larger) trailers set up with cubicles) and coming to work is a bit like camping.  It's nice that I don't have to get dressed up, but sucks that my showering and cooking facilities are limited.

I'm one of the lucky ones though.  My trailer has fixed plumbing (actual bathrooms with a flushing toilet, sink with running water, and a door).  Half the site has to use porta johns....

WOW..good luck with that.  Jenny..do you still ride a Quintana Roo? If so, which model and what's your overall opinion on them? One of the LBS has an '11 CD0.1 Ultegra at a deep discount.

jsnowash - 2012-01-13 6:25 AM Morning, all! How's everyone done this week? I've managed to stick with my schedule so far this week! Yay! Today is a run & swim. Tomorrow I attend an indoor cycling certification class, so will be on the bike some amount during the day.... I probably won't be able to check in on this thread much (or at all) tomorrow, but I'll check in later in the day today and tomorrow night or Sunday morning.

I've slept a lot this week. I slept most of this morning, and I'm beginning to feel like myself again. I went out for Chinese food with my son at lunch -- I didn't quite eat all of my calories allotted for today -- I could have made better choices -- but I also didn't do too bad, considering it was Chinese. I'll be drinking a lot of water throughout the rest of the day to try to wash the sodium out of my system.

I'm feeling so much better and it's 43 degrees outside, I think I'm going to try a 3-4 mile run after my son gets home from school. I'm really looking forward to it, and it will help me burn off those potstickers. :-)

I am ready to get back at this thing. The pool is open Sunday afternoon, and I'm thinking of loading everyone up and hitting the pool for an hour or so. I hope I remember how to swim.

The good thing about being sick is that I don't hate my trainer quite so much. I'm glad I had it so that I could do something -- I would spin for a while and then when I felt dizzy or sick, I could step off for a few minutes, get a drink, kind of recover a little, and then hit it again. I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable doing that even at a gym.

One of my projects for this weekend is to finally lay out my racing schedule for the next few months -- sign up for those races that are available for registration -- and then figure out a training schedule. Once I have that done, I'll bounce it off of you all to see what you think.

Question - I just sent in my paperwork for my annual USAT license.  It's the first time I've bought one (I usually just do the one day pass, but I figure I'll get my monies worth this year).  My card has been charged...do I just wait to get some sort of packet in the mail?

I was half expecting an email confirmation....but haven't seen anything yet....

hmmmm... well, you WILL receive a packet in the mail with your USAT card, but I think I've gotten email confirmation when I've submitted payment online in the past -- anyone else??

YAY! Glad you're feeling better!

----------

I've got a houseful of sickies here - hubby has been feeling a little under the weather the past couple of days, and my son came home with a fever this afternoon and has pretty much been sleeping since he got home. Hope I don't come down with it!

Well, my training for tomorrow was CANCELLED! So bummed.... it was supposed to be at a new facility, and apparently there was a delay in the delivery of the bikes -- ugh, I would think they could have let us know before today!!

My big accomplishment this week -- I got to the pool THREE TIMES this week! I'm beginning to feel like my swim fitness is on it's way back -- good thing!

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Yep - still ride my QR - I have a Seduza, but it's several years old now. I've been very happy with it. The main thing, of course, is to get a bike that fits you well. I can't really comment on the CD0.1, except to say that it's a nice looking bike!

Thanks..might go down on Tuesday to check it out.  This LBS sells both Quintana Roo and Trek which I've also been looking at so it will be nice to compare.  It's just such a good price..more bike than i really need but at the same price as a mid-level-hard to turn down.

Watching the Olympic trials...so impressive and inspiring. Can't believe the "kick" some of these runners have.   Rooting for Desi and Kastor!!

Well, I didn't run today. Instead, I got took a 3 mile walk- twice.

I have a 7 month old puppy that has been stuck inside for the past 2 days, due to the excessive cold. It seemed like he was going stir crazy and really starting to behave badly, so I sacrificed my run to take him on a second long walk this afternoon. It seems like it was a good plan, because he's snoring at my feet now- even thought the kids are running around playing Star Wars, very loudly.

Every one have a great night.

I got 2 great workouts in today.
I swam for 35 minutes, then change and ran a little over 6 miles. My running buddy waited for me to finish swim class so neither of us runs alone. No knee pain, yeah!! It was still a slow run but it felt better than last week.
I had to take my older son to the gym for certification and I DID NOT do any weights. That's what killed my knee last week when I swam, run then did weights. Too much in one day. Instead I played 30 mins of basketball with my 8 year old, then sat and strecthed long and slow for 15 minutes.
My legs are tired now.

I have cycling on Monday morning at 5:45am. Since its a holiday I may do a short run afterwards.

Now I trying to see what I should do tomorrow. Still tryig to figure out my training schedule.
It may be a short run or strenght training (upper body) or light spinning.

I lost 1lb this week too.

Happy Sunday!

It's freezing here today. Took the dogs for short walks, and decided to head to the Y for some indoor running.

I'm really psyched with my running right now. I've been making significant improvements in my endurance, and I think my pace is picking up too.

In the past, once I hit this point, I've had various foot injuries. But, I'm feeling really strong this time around. I think this'll be the time I'm able to hit the 10K mark.

Time to make some eggplant parm and head to a friends house for dinner!

I had the opportunity to play a gig with my old band last night. So I ended up getting up late this morning, went to late church and generally got a late start to the day. So I finally got out to run around 12:30, and I did 8 miles in the fastest training pace I've had for that type of distance in quite some time. And, no knee pain. I am stoked.

I hope everyone has had a good weekend, and if you get Monday off, keep the good weekend going!

Good job everyone!

Sounds like i'mnot the only one getting ready to plan out the season. I have a few things in mind, but I also have a meeting with some friends next weekend to decide which races/events we're going to together. So a week from now I'll be able to get a training plan together. Then the work really starts, lol.

Stay safe and healthy everyone (and continue getting better, for those that have been sick!)

I had a great day today. My husband left for a conference in LA at noon, so we went to early church, then after he left for the airport, we had naps. At about 3:00, the two little boys and I went to the pool. They splashed around while I swam for 35 minutes, then I watched the little guy, so my middle son could do some cannon balls and swim a couple laps.

The swim was so inspiring (my first real swim since before Thanksgiving, for one reason or another), that after we got home, I went out for a 35 minute run.

I was so relieved that I could still swim. ;-) And watching my 5 year old with his floaty on, swimming all over the shallow end made me feel so happy. I went over to hug him during one of my breaks, and he was all indignant -- "Don't touch me!!! Don't touch me!!!" and he swam away. lol

I have to work tomorrow, but that's okay. My middle son is the only one who has the day off, so he's going to sleep in and then ride his bike to my office to have lunch with me and my oldest son when he gets out of class.

I hope everyone enjoys the day Monday, whatever it is you have to do -- work, play, rest, or train.

I took one of my kids to the indoor pool yesterday, too.

I've found that I can actually take a pretty long time off of swimming and it comes back pretty quickly. I hardly swam at all last year, and I'm easily up to 2,000 yard swims in just a few weeks back - my speed has dropped off quite a bit, but I think that will come back when I've been back at it more consistently for a while.

Happy MLK day, everyone! Anybody off work today? The kids are all off school and my hubby's work is closed. The two younger kids had sleepovers last night, but my oldest is going to need to commit most of the day to studying today -- his first experience with FINAL EXAMS is coming up next week, and he lost a good bit of study time earlier in the weekend because he was feeling so lousy (turns out he had strep throat, but is feeling better now that the antibiotics have started to do their thing).

Sounds like there was lots of great training going on this weekend! It was nice to read about all of those great workouts! Keep up the good work, everyone!

I got a nice long trainer workout in on Saturday and did some pool running yesterday. I've been dealing with minor heel bursitis for a couple of months now. If I take it easy, it doesn't seem to get any worse, but it's not really getting any better either, and I feel like it's limiting my ability to push myself a little harder running (both in terms of volume/distance and speed). So I've decided I'm going to take a little time off from running and see if I can't get rid of it altogether before my IM training plan officially begins in a few weeks. In the mean time, I'll substitute some water running, elliptical training, and add some extra bike workouts to help "substitute" for those lost runs, and hope that my run fitness doesn't suffer too much.... Better to start the long road to IM injury-free, though!
