I'm dragontail this morning.  I think I overdid it yesterday.  Did an hour bike ride (16.75 miles), then had PT for 45 minutes which was working my legs pretty hard, then after work, met a friend to do the elliptical for an hour (easy, aerobic).  Also, all I wanted yesterday was candy bars--so I had a Twix, then an evil co-worker came through offering cheesecake, which I also took.  This morning I went to swim and it felt like I couldn't go much faster than my warm-up.  I did push it, but stopped with 40 laps instead of 50.  Then, like an idiot, came home and shoveled the slush in the driveway to make sure my arms were as tired as my legs.  Tomorrow's a light day--just elliptical and strength training--but this is an extra coffee morning.  My theory is that if I tell on myself when I've made quite poor choices, perhaps I'll stop...

I had an awesome run this morning. After feeling burned out yesterday I was a little afraid because today was my long run morning. I don't know where it came from but everything seemed to click. I just wished it wasn't on the treadmill, but I guess plenty of time for that after the ice/snow/slush is gone. I did 4 sets of 3.34 @ 8:57 and .5 incline (except on long run days I keep incline @ 1.5). The third set was simply amazing, the last mile was a bit rough, but I could have done more so I don't feel like I overdid it.

peregrinesgirl: we've all been there with the bad choices. Today is another day, as my grandma always said, "chin up, eyes ahead." Be proud of your athletic achievements even if you don't feel your nutrition was spot on, and just keep moving forward.

Today did swim. 25 yard pool.  40 lengths easy, 5 x 50 hard, 10 lengths cool down.  That is the most i've swim to date in one day.

I was feeling saucy so I decided to go home and run 2 miles.  My legs were mad at me, and my lungs do NOT like the cold weather.  I spend a good half hour coughing up a storm after I get home.

OH WELL!  Tonight eat like a king and sleep sleep sleep.  <3 weekends.

Finished my week this morning (Sun - Sat) with a workout on my bike trainer where I did one leg spins -- something I couldn't do on the road.  I know I need to work on my pedal efficiency on the bike.  Tomorrow I want to find time for a bike and a run (tyring to squeeze as much as I can into the weekends).  My totals for the week were as follows:

Swim:  6200.00 Yd
Bike: 26.44 Mi
Run:  9.62 Mi

Sounds like a great day of working out... Awesome job on the swim...  Do you happen to know how fast you swim a 100 yards?

Longest run in a couple of months today, just under an hour.

Tomorrow is the end of my week and I am planning a light recovery workout of 300yrds of swimming.  I usually try and have 1 or 2 recovery workouts a week, which at the moment tend to be light swimming.  I usually try and pick a low impact activity and get my heartrate up for about 15 minutes or so.  It seems to make sense to me, but I have read no information on recovery workouts.  Does that make sense for those that have?

All those Massachusetts people... Hope you are enjoying the epic January weather for some good outdoor workouts!

Great job on the week. Recovery can be done on a bike as well so have a high cadence and have your HR not get above 130... I do majority of my bike training on my computrainer but definitely enjoy running without the use of wind pants or running pants.

Very happy with my run today and my week.

Ran 15 miles at 8:56 pace, 150 average heart in 2:13:36. My first warmup mile was at 10:10 pace and 151 average heart rate. You take that out and the last 14 were at 8:48 pace and the same heart rate more or less. The last mile which features two decent hills was at 7:56 pace and I still felt really strong. By far the best training run I've ever had. The weather was awesome. 36 degrees and mild with no wind. I dropped two layers which was smart. I was so comfortable the entire way. It was 42 when I left the gym in a t-shirt in January. Love it!

The week. Most biking miles in a week, most running miles in a week. First Time I've broken 800 minutes training in a week (elliptical included to get over that mark).

S: 7100.00 Yd
2h 27m
B:
125.14 Mi
6h 56m 30s
R:
26.00 Mi
3h 54m 34s
Elliptical: 16 minutes

Great swim workout this morning. I watched the Marc Evans videos on youtube and concentrated on the "one goggle out of the water" when taking a breath and the V entry of stroke. I really feel it streamlined my stroke and gave me more power.

I need to get more confident in the open water. I was a lifeguard for years + swim team as a kid but in one of my triathlons  I had a panic attack during my swim. Hopefully will get some OWS when weather allows.

I need to get another run in this week but good day in the pool!

Subject: Weekly Totals

Today was the best training week I've had it a very long time. Everyday (except Thursday a little) I managed to push and any soreness/pain was from hardwork and not exhaustion. I think I've got a nutrition strategy that works for Saturday 2 hours rides (after I can start riding outside again and can increase time on the bike I still need tips...). I also did my first long run of the season. AND to top it off I can see a difference in my arms from weight lifting AND I actually saw progress in taking off the weight that some meds caused me to gain (still more weight to lose to get to a good racing weight, one step at a time). It was a big week athletically for me

Weekly Totals:

  • Stairs- 75 min
  • Spin- 315 min
  • Running- 31.5 miles
  • 3 X pump classes (weight lifting) and 2 X abs classes

Two questions:

1)  What type of time/distance would be appropriate for a week's training prior to a sprint triathlon, not including the taper?

2) Do any of the Masachusetts people have their body composition monitored?  If so, where do you get this done?

Why don't you get a Sprint plan using BT's website?

I haven't... There are plenty of places you can get this done though

My birthday isn't for another 30 days... but my husband and parents just bought me a new spealized allez elite. I'm so excited! I officially have a road bike! I just had to share... I can't pick it up until this weekend. I want to ride so bad now! The weather is perfect (for January) today, but it looks like the weather will not be cooperating after I can pick it up, but I may just have to ride anyway.
