That is really strange.  And it is showing the same route?  It may be just the way the GPS is calculating on the road.  Like if MMR is going on right hand side but BT is down the middle of the road.  It doesn't seem like much but when I have run long races with my Garmin just the times from crossing to other side of street or moving from middle to side adds about almost 1 mile over the course of a marthon.  Kind of made me realize how important it is to pick the straightest line and stick with it.

My suggestion to make you feel like you did more is to just manually enter the MMR distance after it is uploaded-haha.

mfoster73 - 2012-05-10 2:42 PM Does anyone map their rides/runs on mapmyride/mapmyrun and then import the map data to BT?  I'm getting consistently lower milages via the BT map than with MMR.  Today MMR had me at 11.03 miles and then I exported from MMR, imported the GPX to BT and it shows 10.6.  Ideas?  Thanks

So I have thought about  my burned out feeling and I think a lot of it has to do with the Run/Swim workouts I have been doing twice a week.  It is just too much to get up at 4:30 and run hard for 1 hour then jump in the pool and do hard swim for another hour and then work/family for rest of day.  I have decided to only do that once a week and on Friday's just get a 45 minute run in at lunch instead of 1 hour.  I think overall by spacing  the workouts I will feel fresher.

On a side note - last week as I was waiting for my GPS to connect while standing on the drive way I noticed my HR was at 48 and that was after running around in my house getting dressed, fluids, etc..  That is the lowest I have ever had it.  My Resting HR in 2009/2010 was around 52.  I am gonna have to check one morning if I can remember how low it is when I am sleeping and actually resting.

Good morning all!

I had a great swim this morning. It was only 1400 meters but it just felt like something special today...maybe it's just that it is Friday.

Hope everyone has a good training day!

2 things...

I have noticed that my HR is lower during my morning runs (When I prefer to run) than after work.  Last week I did an easy 4 miles at 5pm - my average HR was 153 and climbing.  The next  day I ran at 5 am like usual and the the average HR was 142 and staying the same.

Also, I was once shocked by an outlet while teaching a 1st grade class.  The principal made me go to the hospital to get checked out.  I will always remember the doctor coming in while the HR monitor was on and asking me if I was a runner because my HR was 38 and she was scared that something was off due to the electric shock.   It may be wierd, but I was proud of the low HR.

I would love to hear what your HR monitor says after a good night sleep.

Tim-

You are not alone on the burned out feeling!!  This week for me SUCKED.  No way around it.  Between recovering from the half marathon and nursing some minor injuries and school and work and my grandma being in the hospital, my training was terribly inconsistent, all I felt like doing was sleeping.  Argh.  Next week is a new week though, and I agree I am trying to be smarter about planning in key workouts, I think I need to be more mindful of what else is going on each day.

My grandma is in the hospital with congestive heart failure.  I went to visit yesterday and was warned by my family that the little things like eating take everything out of her.  She was sleeping when I arrived, but when the nurse woke her up to take her vitals, she looked over, saw me, and started waking up a bit.  Then the PT and OT came in to do therapy.  I stayed in the room to watch and encourage her.  I was AMAZED.  She has not been able to walk much the past couple weeks, because she gets so winded and it fatigues her.  She has trouble remembering things. They asked her where she was, and she didn't know.  But, when they asked her to stand up, she did it no problem.  They asked if she wanted to walk, she said yes.  She started walking in the room, and they ended up taking her into the hallway to walk.  The one thing that stood out to me was when they would periodically ask her, Are you tired? and she would respond very quickly, NO! It was amazing to see her determination.  I talked to her in the room before everyone else came back in, and told her how inspiring that was to me.  She smiled, and asked me when my race was again, and how long it was, and said, oh my!

Today I did a "Splash and Dash", it was an 850m swim followed by a 3.4 mile run.  I came in 4th, finishing the swim in 16:57 and averaging 7:45 min./miles on the run.  The entire time, whenever I started to feel a little tired, I remembered what my grandma said...are you tired?? NO!   I think she should be an honorary member of RFP.

Well, I am off to spend some time with two of the most inspiring people i know, my mom and grandma. Happy Mothers Day to all the Mom's!

Jenny

Hey Team.

Happy Mothers Day.

Jen - nice work and sounds like your Grandma is a wonderful lady.

Tim - great idea about making some changes in your schedule.

I had a great time with my brother in Michigan on thursday and friday - found some great places to train and will do so when this month is over.

Today - longest ride to date - 4hours 25 minutes - 112 KM - followed by a 35 minute run. This was a crazy day - had to put up with a 40 minute cold blustery rainstorm during the ride but decided to just suck it up and RFP.

Hope everyone has a great week.

KC

Tim, I know exactly how you feel as I am currently longing for a weekend with no training.  But that will not happen till September.  I did cheat some and slept in and then laid around for most of the morning today while waiting for the rain to stop.  Today was my lounge day even though I did a 90 minute run.

Diane - sorry, I have not had an issue with cramps like that.  I have cramped on the bike before and I know that it was due to me being dehydrated.

Jen, great job on the swim.

Brian, wow a resting HR of 38!  Don't think mine goes that low.  Nice job on the bike.

Jenny, sorry to hear about your Grandmother but also was a great supporter and motivator she is for you.

Having some mental issues on the bike.  I ride with a group from my LBS and the owner says I have the legs, and lungs to kick the bike portion but I lack the confidence to do it.  It is nice to know I have the legs and lungs but it really sucks to hear people tell me I lack the confidence.  I do have to say that the bike is my weakest just because I am afraid of going to fast.  Yes, I admit it I don't like going fast because it scares me and I am afraid I am going to crash.  There I said it.  There I admit what the issue is now I have to work on remedying that.

Been working my physical therapist and I believe we have fixed my hamstring issue.  Ran today and I have to say it was pretty much pain free!  First time in a long time that I am able to say that.

Everyone has their own version of "fast".  The only way to feel more comfortable is to push the envelope just a little bit each time you are out there until you reach that new comfort level.  Do you feel like the comfort level has increased or are you just staying at the same level with all your training.  I also don't like going extremely fast - but for me its more that I am worried my sanford and son bike is gonna fall apart going 35 mph.  Either way you will be fine.  Are you really trying to "kill" the bike portion? From all my reading and talking with people I am finding the people who killed the IM bike end up having a nightmare run.  Go you pace, push it a bit with what you are comfortable with and you will be fine.

Thanks - Neck was giving me issues, cramps and pain - just had to sit up several times to stretch. I think I am going to have to have a bit of an adjustment done for sure.

Kathy,

I feel the exact same way. I'm afraid of going fast! On downhills I feather my breaks to keep the speed down. Yesterday I tried to let go just a bit on a downhill and I hit 32 MPH which is a record speed for me. Most people I know regularly go much faster than that. I've decided that I'm okay with not going fast but I also notice that I am getting more comfortable on the bike the more I ride. Hang in there and don't worry about the speed. It will come if it's meant to be.

There's a crazy hill/downhill that lots of us ride out here in Boulder called Olde Stage road. One year during a race a lady hit a bear that was crossing the road while on the downhill and I heard she was doing about 40 MPH. Maybe that's one reason I'm afraid to go fast! ha ha ha

Hi Team!

Having a great Monday so far...it's finals week, so I don't need to be on campus until this afternoon, so I took advantage of the warm weather to get a 30 mile ride in...felt great, especially after getting my bike tuned up yesterday.  My friend is working on assembling the triathlon bike i am going to try out and potentially buy.  I will attach a picture of the bike (not the actual bike, but a picture I found online of the same one.)

I irritated my left hip flexor and right calf running yesterday.  I first felt this after the half marathon last weekend, and Sunday was the first I had run on it since then.  It felt fine on the bike, so I will have to play it by ear for tomorrow.  I am supposed to get a run in tomorrow, but might end up postponing it or running in the pool.  Hope to get some foam rolling in today!

Have a wonderful Monday!

Jenny

Jenny - sweet bike! I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.  She has a great attitude!  I like her spunky spirit Laughing

Diane - I've gotten foot cramps while swimming and they are no joke! It seemed to last forever but I had to stop swimming and rubbed my foot until I could move it again.  Have you tried heat to the affected area? If the ice doesn't help, maybe a hot treatment will.  Just a thought.

KC - awesome ride!

Kathy - don't sweat it! Like Tim said, everyone's fast is different.  You just have to be comfortable with what works for you.  Forget everyone else and what they say.

Tim - Take a break when you need it.  A couple days off is better than trying to slug through a workout.  I have found that those days really help to reset my head to get back into the game.

I had a great weekend in Madison with friends.  The boys did the Horribly Hilly course on Saturday (120 miles!  I would've died) and the girls did 55 miler on parts of the IMWI course.  The hills were tough but I attribute it to tired legs from Thurs long run and asthma issues.  We took a wrong turn and ended up adding 15 miles onto the ride but it could've been worse.  Sunday was a short 25 min run and then a 2 hour easy ride.  I did that solo on a bike route near the house we rented while the other gals did a long run.

I've been using Hammer products the last few days and it's worked out well for me.  No GI issues, thank goodness!  I didn't care for the Strawberry Vanilla flavored Perpetuem but the Caffe Latte flavor wasn't bad.  I've still got to try Infinit as well.  So far so good, maybe I'll nail down this nutrition thing after all!  Now if I could just get rid of this asthma thing, I'd be in GREAT shape! Cool

Good morning everyone!

Just finished a good swim of 1300 meters and I'm planning on doing my first group ride ever tonight! I joined a local tri club and it's not very big (probably only 5-7 will show up) but we're riding at 6pm tonight. I'm a little hesitant about riding close to people but I know I need to get comfortable with it so here goes!

Enjoy your day!

Jenn - Good luck with your bike ride tonight with the group.  It does take time getting used to riding with people in a group.  I am much more comfortable being in the back.

Saskat - Sounds like you had a great weekend training and spending it with friends.

Jenny - nice bike!

Thank you all in helping me with this fast issue on the bike.  I know what my version of fast is slow to another person and visa versa and I just have to accept my pace.  I guess I am tired of my rides hovering around only 15 mph, would love to see it increase especially since I have been riding for 5 years now.  I did do a short ride last night with my husband and I made him work and his garmin said we were doing a 16.2 pace while mine only said 14.7 pace and we were together riding pretty much the same pace.  We have different Garmin watches but I can't believe they would be that way off.  Has anyone else had issues where you had conflicting paces?

Jen - Nice bike. Looks super fast.

KC - What the heck? Where did the time go?!

I did my longest run ever last Friday. 18 miles (+2 walking) The first 11 went well, the rest was truly awful. I messed up with nutrition and as a result had absolutely no legs. We are tweaking a few things for this Friday when I should hit 20 miles. This will be my last long run before race day. I am a little uneasy about only covering 20 in training, but apparently this is the norm. Hopefully I can get this nutrition thing right this time.

Happy training Team!

DO you have a computer on your bike?  Or, only use your garmin?  I would trust a calibrated odometer on your bike - if only to mesaure the distance - more than a garmin.  It would be intersting to see the difference between the two.
