I'd like to double that pace and lose .5 pounds a week. But I guess I like wine and pasta more than I like dropping weight. I just remembered that my initial weigh in was wrong. I actually started at 204. So I lost 3 pounds last month. Which means I'm drinking the right amount of wine and eating just enough pasta. Woo hoo! |

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED I'm the same if I don't have a plan or a schedule I stop working out. Good luck with C25k! Amy rustymom - 2013-02-02 2:47 PM Ok. I'm here it face the facts that I am unable to run without a plan. I have let most if not all of any run fitness that I had go. I have slacked on my running since August (possibly earlier). I've never built a good base and really have nothing to fall back on. Maybe once I am back in better running shape I can just run, but at this point I need structure. I started running at about 220 lbs 3 years ago. I was 40 and had never run other than for soccer or gym. C25K was where I started. It was tough, but also encouraging. I did it on my treadmill that I purchased with walking in mind. The furthest I have ever run is 5 miles and I may have run that 2 or 3 times. I have lost close to 40lbs, so the running should be easier at this point. I guess it is when I'm consistent. Today is as good a day as any. So...I am restarting C25k today. I will be running today, Tues and Thurs this week. In 9 weeks is the 5K my soon-to-be 8 year old son would like to "run." We "ran" it 2 years ago and he did great jogging with me for a bit and then walking. |

Member 51 Los Angeles | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Weighing in at 147. Yay! Wanted to mention that I've decided to add a walking program to my triathlon training. It's basically 20 minutes of walking 5-6 times a week for 8 weeks initially. I lost A LOT of weight the last time I did it about a decade ago pre-children. Walking just suits me. So I'm hoping that I'll be dropping more pounds more quickly at this point. Also, quick update: I completed my first 5K race yesterday. It was a trail run in the hills in San Juan Capistrano. I came in at 35:40, which I know isn't very fast, but...did I mention it was in the hills? They were pretty tough. I only had to walk once a teeny bit around 4K up Mt. A$$ Kicker. So I feel like my road time will be considerably faster. We'll see though. Here's the unofficial race report: http://cupofg.blogspot.com/2013/02/race-report-san-juan-hills-5k.ht... My first triathlon ever is in two weeks. And, I still need a bike. LOL. Might be riding my son's bmx or husband's beach cruiser. Have a great week! Edited by gmorning 2013-02-04 12:17 PM |

Member 51 Los Angeles | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Hey Rusty Mom! Also wanted to say that I know what you mean about the running with a plan. I did a couch to 5K plan beginning last September. As long as I was running 3X a week, I was ok. I mean, it was hard, but I felt like each week I was improving. Since I've switched over to a tri training plan and I'm only running 2X a week now, I've seen a real drop-off in how I feel when I'm running. Not sure what to do about it, but will probably hold steady for another few months to get my swimming and biking going, and then start increasing my running more. Best of luck, g |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Dd2935 in with a a big weight loss week, I hope you are feeling better! I tried to not eat too much of the good superbowl food. Luckily we got back late from skiing and didn't have time to prepare the large amounts that we usually have. I stayed the same at 181 still up a little but hoping for a a big week.

New user 124 Baton Rouge, LA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Sorry I have been MIA. I have been dealing with walking pneuma and haven't been doing much for the past 2 weeks. I did get in the water on Sunday and did a quick 600 (just to see how I felt) and I did well with no problems. Today I woke up feeling 100% and I did a 2 mile run at 6am with a friend, 30 minute ( 6.1 mile) bike on the stationary bike since it was raining outside and I didn't want to chance getting sick again, and did my weights (lower body). I feel AMAZING!!! Tomorrow I have a quick 1,050 swim and more weights (upper body) and AB work. However I haven't lost any weight. That is a bit disheartening but I began tracking my food better and I expect to lose weight this week. With being sick and not training I have decided to withdraw from my March 9th sprint Triathlon and focus on training hard for a hilly sprint triathlon in early May. |

It's a super small band with your vitals on it that you can wear while training instead of carrying your wallet or bag. I have a coupon code for $1 off if you're interested. Stay safe & happy training! http://cupofg.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-new-road-id.html?m=0 |

I know it's hard to pull out of a race but it sounds like changing your focus to a slightly later race is a good choice. Keep up the great workouts! Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Okay so today's update goes like this. Today I did something I didn't want to do. While I didn't get much sleep last night I went ahead and got up this morning before the sun was up and went to my masters swim class. It was rough. I didn't feel good. It was not a good workout. I really wanted to stop. But I didn't stop. I'm happy about that. So get out there guys and get your workouts done for today :-) |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED I want to move to MIAMI!!!!!!!!! Boston is supposed to over 40 inches of snow tomorrow into Saturday. Well I wouldn't be able to go out and run anyway because I think I pulled a muscle in my lower back and my sciatica is killing me. Pain is running down the back of my left leg and at times I can barely walk. Odd that josephie had the same problem for his race this past weekend - I hope you are feeling better bud! Really stinks having an injury, I was on a roll working out pretty consistantly for about one and half months. Hopefully it won't last too long. I think I could go for about a week and not lose all these miles I have been putting in the bank. In the past if I went two weeks without running it was almost like starting all over again, sucks. Any opinions on layoffs vs. endurance lost? Edited by JREDFLY 2013-02-07 6:56 PM |

New user 124 Baton Rouge, LA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED D_L_B: Since I have really began training I have been getting 8 to 9 hours of sleep. I have issues falling asleep which has hampered my training in the past due to being so tired. I have been listening to this meditation/relaxation App on my iPhone at night and it is working wonders! I think that is why my training sessions have been going so great. |

New user 124 Baton Rouge, LA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED And other great training report! I did a 2 mile run yesterday and did a 2 mile run plus a 6.1 mile bike today. My run and bike was scheduled to only be 30 minutes each so that's my my distance is low. Today was the first time back on my bike since September and I wasn't into it. Not sure why. I really just hate the bike training but it is a necessary evil! Tomorrow I have another 30 minute run (C25K- Week 2, Day 1) Along with strength (lower body) and AB's/Core. Yesterday and today's run felt easy. I felt that I had a nice stride which I have NEVER felt before and I felt that my breathing was in control. I do have a 10k coming up next weekend on the 16th and I am pretty excited to put my training to good use. I also have the New Orleans Rock N Roll Half Marathon coming up on the 24th of this month. I PRed this course last year but I'm not sure If I can do it this year since I am more out of shape and about 30 pounds heavier. However I am going out to beat my pervious Half time that I got from the 20th of January and beat my 10k time that I got back in early December. |

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Sciatica is a tough one. I have a training buddy that didn't run at all for about 8 weeks before his Ironman because of it. But I think he was able to swim and bike. He still finished successfully for what it's worth.
