SSMinnow - 2012-09-05 5:48 AM Yoo-Hoo!!!  It's time for those who are racing this weekend to get it together!!!  I know of at least three does that will be getting it done!  Who is else is stepping out?  Give us a glimpse into your plans.

No racing for me. Good luck to the Lindas and our MOO team! I'm so looking forward to tracking you ladies on Sunday. I'll be on a plane for 5 hours in the morning, so fingers crossed it has wifi!

While our girl Christina is playing her cards close to the vest, ...

lol.  Not trying to be sly I just think there are too many unknowns as a first time IMer.  For the swim I know I need to take my head out of the game; focus on breathing through my nose and counting strokes or singing.  On the bike I just want to enjoy the scenery while staying in my target HR zone. As for the run, a run/walk strategy hopefully just walking the aid stations and Observatory Hill.  Fully expect it to be a mental battle like I've never experienced before and have prepared a few things to ready myself for battle. For one, I rented a tracker from myatheltelive for you all to follow my progress.  Knowing you're watching will help.

Dino, I'll defniitely check in and say hi early Sun am.  For the race I'll be in a "seafoam" (aka light blue) Craft tri top, black shorts, and black calf sleeves.

Ah yes, redbox!  Never used them before.  Thankfully I had luck at our library.

I was teasing you. I totally understand your desire to keep it all in perspective.  In '10, my whole day was one big smile after I got out of Lake Monona.  Even though it was hard and hurt like heck, the experience really was once in a lifetime.  you're going to love it all!  See you soon.

Wow - what a big weekend for the group.  Good luck Suzy and Christina.  I know you both have different goals but I hope each one awaits you at the finish line.  You know we will all be supporting and rooting for you.

I scrapped my race but Tony has a cross race so I will have iPad in hand tracking everyone.

Good luck Linda - so nice to see you out on the race course again.

And good luck Nollette family.  Kudos to Zach!  Tell him if he's in the brochure from last year, he must repeat.  No pressure!! LOL  So much fun to race as a family.

Cheers!  It's almost Friday.

PS. I'm in for a fourth.  Going to keep doing this until I see a 3:XX:XX on the run, a 5:xx:XX on the bike and a 2:00/100y on the swim.  Could take a while

MOO doesn't get many pros for a few reasons, the purse is small compared to many IM races and it's too close to Kona.  I think the ones who do particpate these days want points for Kona more than anything.  It's also the first race for next year KQing so you have a lot of good AG'ers gunning early.

Mark my words, in my AG the #1 woman will be Sue Pierson with a 10:XX:XX.  The first time she did IM WI she KQed with a 10:45 and then DNF'ed Kona.   Has taken home prize $$ from Boston.  Sucks to have someone that good in your AG.

Where do you think the pros go when they're getting older, still love to race, and aren't racing pro anymore? Ayup. To the old-lady age groups!! Ha!!

Two pros I plan to track in WI are Beth Walsh and Hilary Biscay. I adore the former and have followed her since her first 10K race back in, oh, 2007 or so (she ran something like 41:00). And I love the latter cuz she's a former rockstar swimmer and is as mentally tough as they come. I recently read about her trying to finish an IM with a stress fracture in her femur and her hip was literally splitting apart. She was crawling the last 5K and medical made her leave the course in an ambulance. She was pi$$ed and tried to protest, but eventually realized that the head medical person can, indeed, pull an athlete from the course. I don't know what is in Hilary's grey matter but whatever it is, I'd like a slice, please!!!

But yeah, I'm with Linda -- 4's and 6's would be fun!! More power to ya, Suzy. Gives us slackers all something to do while we sit back and watch you train, ha!!!

JULIA: Thanks for cadence feedback on the trails. When I ran on the roads yesterday for the first time in a long time, and when I thought about cadence, it was faster than it's ever been in my life. Go figure. I wouldn't say it was comfortable, but I was consistenly 94-96 and that never happens -- I usually struggle to hit 90. So maybe my trail running is helping me grow comfortable with a shorter stride?

A 5 and a 6,  heck  I'd be happy to improve my 6 and  7!!  Speaking of fantastic age groupers, there was a woman my Doug was chasing all year during races.  She was super strong on the bike and run and was Doug's carrot.   She took second in her age group at IM Louisville 2 weeks ago and is Kona bound.  Strong women rock!!

Christina,  I second what everyone has been saying.  The first is so magical.  This is the final paragraph from my Canada RR and I hope you the same joy and pride:

I wouldn’t change a thing about my training or the race. Race day is about so much more than the swim, bike, run. It is about putting them all together and dealing with the conditions as they unfold. I am proud of myself not only for crossing that finish line, but for the strength and knowledge I’ve gained training for this. I was brave and strong and I did it!!!!

Suzy,  your ability to dig so deep and push through the pain is inspirational.   I'm sure you'll achieve all the personal goals you work so hard for.

To all the other racers this weekend (runners, triathletes, cross racers)  find your gggggrrrrrrrrrr and kill em!!!

Christina, last year Skin Strong had a booth outside and they were giving out the single use packets, I used it mid ride and have been buying the stuff ever since! Very good stuff and I don't think it's more expensive at the expo for stuff like that, most booths have deals onsite.

Christina--you could try Machinery Row which is next to the swim parking lot, but if it were me I would suck it up and pay the $$$.  Too much stres hunting all over for some.

Did my little ride and swim so I am offically done until Sunday.  Only thing left now is CHO loading while pulling together my bags and then a big nap before dinner.

I went for a nice easy ride this morning and saw kangaroos out on the golf course then whales as I came back past the ocean, beautiful Spring day! No rabid beavers...

SERIOUS BIKE QUESTION: Do you need to change the stem to a shorter one if you put clip on aerobars on a road bike? I've just ordered some Profile T2 bars and I'm wondering whether the reach will stretch me out too far?

Glad you didn't run into any rabid beavers David.   Have you already removed spacers?  I ended up taking out all of my spacers and buying a fairly steep negative angle stem.  If your existing stem has positive rise, you could try turning it upside down too.

Here's a useful chart for you:

I went out yesterday afternoon for my first bike ride since the HIM last Sunday.  My original thought was just to get out and go easy for an hour.   When I started pedaling, my legs felt great and my power readings were higher than usual.  One thing led to another and the traffic lights all cooperated (first time ever I think) and I just kept riding hard.  I ended up having an impromptu TT of sorts.  When I checked out the data on my PC, I found that I had smashed all my existing CP values between 7 seconds and 60 minutes.  My new CP is 237 (up from 195) which is 4 watts/kg for me.  I am sure that all the Z3 riding and long rides I did in the last month (including the HIM ride) are what drove the improvement.   Anyway, I'm psyched.   If I can pick up one more watt/kg (no small feat I know), I will be approaching the times of the guys who podium in the races that I do.
