I am very jealous of the time some of you are able to put in. I am struggling with feeling bad every time i leave my wife after work with the 4 kids. I am the same way. With an almost 4 yrs old and an almost 2 yrs old in the house, I do most (if not all) of my training by 7am (except long run and ride - 8 am). That is the only way I can do it. My wife (non athlete, although a heck of a swimmer) and I are thinking in joining La fitness, which will allow me to swim at lunch, and free up two mornings for extra B/R workouts, or extra sleep. BTW, your total count is off by one. Should be 21, not 20 (according to your S/B/R count) Edited by Samyg 2012-09-25 7:59 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Since today is Yom Kipur, the Jewish Community Center (where I swim with the teammates) was closed. So I decided to drop bandit to the SMU Dallas Aquatic Masters pool (50 meters outdoor) and swam with them. Gabe S 7/ B 13/ R 13 Rest 5 Total 32 Time 42:02:18 |

Jim- We are both attorneys - How do I convince my employer that I need to wear sandals or bare feet to work? ADA? For the ADA to work your disability would have to be mental, which isn't hard to prove once you explain you enjoy doing endurance sports. I have three other aproaches for you two of which I know have worked. I know an attorney in one of the big firms in Detroit that actually has a prescription from a podiatrist to wear tennis shoes (running shoes, sneakers which ever is your preferred term). I don't remember what his medical issue is. Second is religious freedom, I have never seen this tested, but I am sure that you can find something in the old testiment that required men to wear sandals. Third follow my route, quit your job with the mortgage servicing arm of a large investment company, move from Atlanta GA to a small town 800 miles away with a population of 10,000 in the summer 5,000 people in the winter, take a massive pay cut, hang out your shingle, in the office at 7:30, home for runch, home at 5 for dinner, wear blue jeans to work ( except the days I have court then I have to wear "work clothes"). |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gabe S 7/ B 13/ R 13 Rest 5 Total 32 Time 42:02:18 Getting the chart caught up again. Couple of decent longer runs keeping at or below MAF for the most part. Speed is still lacking, but seems to be coming back slowly. Ernesto et al.- Question for those of you who have been using MAF training for longer than me. My MAF should be 138 based on the formula, I am finding that I am very comfortable running at 131 though this tends to be pretty slow, and then I am very comfortable at 143 at a much quicker pace. (10:30 vs 9:00) the 138 HR isn't lending to a comfortable running pace and I find myself either slowing way down or speeding up all through my training runs. Is this common? I'd obviously rather run at the quicker pace, but don't want to compromise the aerobic training benefits of the plan especially with the mileage that i will be putting in here very shortly. Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated. Edited by gobluedds 2012-09-26 9:45 AM |

Did you adjust your MAF because of conditioning? 180-age is the normal formula, but if you have been running for more than 2 years, you can adjust your MAF up 5 beats. If I recall you are a little younger than me. My MAF is 134 (180-46), but my adjusted MAF is 139 because I have been running for more than 2 years. Just remember your MAF is a maximum number, try and stay under that for the system to work. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scott, Jim is right, if you have been injury free for the last twelve months you should increase your MAF by 5BPM, which would put you right at 143. Mine is 141+5, therefore I set my Garmin HR alert at 146, anything over 145 it starts to beep and vibrate, and just to keep it from annoying me I slow down. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Matthews - 2012-09-25 6:09 PM 45 mins on the drainer last light. Rough weather yesterday so chose to stay indoors. I am very jealous of the time some of you are able to put in. I am struggling with feeling bad every time i leave my wife after work with the 4 kids.
Two things that might help, at least for me they do, are to re-affirm with your wife that she's on board and OK with a few evening training sessions each week. Secondly, I make an extra effort to do little things to make my wife's life easier, especially with the kids, such as making sure they have their homework done (avoids her stress of making them do it), having dinner planned and/or ready before I leave, having the kids clean up after themselves more often and so on. |

Thanks for that. Good advice. I do try to do that and also check with her when I go to make sure she is ok, it just sits in the back of my mind when your running for an hour. |

I don't like the rain much but its the 1st month we have reached our average rain fall for the month this year so we shouldn't complain. My issue is I haven't been injury free for 12 months yet. It's getting close so maybe I can fudge it a bit? I have the alerts set on my Garmin the same way. That's how I know that I'm speeding up and slowing down all the time. |
