Expert 1006 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Things not to say in an Interview: Ok, couple stories to just lighten the mood and make you laugh.... I am currently in the process of hiring two IT Specialist. We have received 187 resumes this week for the two spots. First interview is going along ok then I ask the guy when would you be available to start..... His response, "Well I have been working for 15 months now and would like to take the summer off, so I was thinking around September..." Second interview is going along ok then I ask the gal, how do you handle stress (Hospital Environment)..... Her response, "I didn't have road rage on the way over here, it's something I continue to work on. I am part Italian so I think there is just something in me that makes me get angrier faster than most..... But it something we all need to work on to get better at....." She goes on and on and on.... The thing with that question is its mostly rhetorical, it was something merely to point out that it is stressful here...... Oh well, both interviews gave me good laughts..... just couldn't believe what they were saying.... So anyone need an IT job in Kansas City...... |

Champion 7347 SRQ, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread OK, I swore I would not do this but I'm doing it because you know, Honey Badger Don't Care... This is my first IM. So realistically anything under 17 hours is gravy. However I think I should be able to do sub 15. So that's going to be my "official BT" goal. Of course I'm not exactly going to be upset if I come in at 16:59:59 |

Love that summer off response! 15 months and I'm spent. Whew! Come to think of it, perhaps I should tell my boss that today. "You know, I have been working for nearly 6 years now...." Thanks for that |

Member 319 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So Slayer brings up some good points. I've thought about it and I'd like to revise my goal time. If I were 100% this training cycle, I think sub-13 would have been possible, but the truth is I've been injury-plagued and the run will likely be a struggle. I'm going to be happy just to finish now, because if I put too much emphasis on a certain time I think I will feel a measure of failure for not reaching it. After all the pain and sacrifice of the past year, I can't allow myself to be disappointed. 16:59:59 (but hoping for faster ) |

Extreme Veteran 494 Olympia, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Thanks for putting together the list, Travis. You already have my name, etc. As far as a goal, it's strictly a matter of finishing before midnight for me since I didn't think even that would be possible until recently. Along the way, I hope to meet some great people and enjoy the experience. Thanks for the interview stories. Very funny! We just went through a round of hiring for IT jobs so I share your laughter. Safe travels to all of you making your way to CdA already or who will be soon! Brad |

Extreme Veteran 335 Herriman, Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Wow. You guys are amazing. Very impressive! Those training hours are HARD CORE!!! In comparison, mine look like I've been training for the Ironman Kids Fun Run. But all things considered, I feel pretty good about my April and May. Simply being at the starting line knowing that I've worked my butt off and have done more than I ever dreamed of doing in my previous 39 years will be an extremely satisfying experience. As a friend suggested, I am going to try to treat the proceeding 16 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds like a victory lap. |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey peeps--guess who is rolling into CdA tonight!! I'll give everyone the low down once I'm in! Plan to feel out the water tomorrow as well, so I'll update. Okay, goal times--of course, PR is always nice, but this is definitely more challenge than IMAZ, so if I put something out there, I'd say sub-12 for me. Feeling comfortable in all 3 legs of the race, but if I PR anything, I think it'll be the run (given I'm smart on the bike). A tip my coach mentioned for the bike given a cold swim (which we are going to have): even if you don't think the air warrants toe warmers, your feet will be COLD coming out of that water--once you get riding, the cool air will keep them cold, toe warmers can block that wind and help warm up your feet, you warm up your feet, and your body will feel much better. |

They are fabulous on cold morning rides then you forget they are even there once you're warm. Tragic! Thankfully, I did it three times and landed safely all three times. Time to race!!! Yup, unless it is there in the bag and I don't see it. Your target time of 12:30 finish puts you right on the bubble for daylight and you might want to bring some reflective tape or a few glow sticks. If you are really cool, there are companies that make blinkies that fit on your race belt which I don't see there either. Race Belt helps unless you are going to switch shirts in T2 in which case, you get two numbers and can just pin them on. They will hand out glow wands about the same time they wheel out the kettles of hot broth but they are not the same as having your own illumination. It can get pretty lonely out there in the dark and having something bright really helps. Sort of like your own campfire to keep the snipes from nibbling on your heels. Actually you're forgetting how long the days are up north. Sunset will be around 8:30pm and it won't be really getting dark until about 9pm (14hr finish). |

As if training volume would actually make someone immune to "Performance Anxiety". I have visions of staggering into the finish Julie Moss style while my fellow competitors step over me collapsed on Sherman & 2nd. Another re-ocurring theme is a repeat of a someone from BT who got lost at IMKY and ended up passed out in a sea of drunks on skid row. They did not find him until the following morning when someone realized "Hey, that rummy has a number pinned to his chest". I should go look up that Race Report; as I recall, it was a good one. My racebelt is currently MIA...but I'm still searching. No biggie to pick up a new one later today. Hadn't thought of lights or reflection though...I'll throw something in my SN's bag. Thanks! |
