So....running goal is done for this month. I'll make the cycling and yoga but no running or jumping for me until its fixed Hope it heals quickly! Thanks Emma! The only good thing here is that the clinic director wants me to be involved with a study he is setting up so I now get free treatment and with the ultra sound he has shown me what to do and I can just go and use it when it suits me That's cool! (The study and free treatment.) I hope you heal quickly. |

Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge bodhi_girl - 2011-05-24 6:18 PM Well it's been a happy and productive 5 days off! Unfortunately back to work tomorrow, but I think I can handle it. So I met the friends AND Kid#1 (yes I'm still going on about that) and get this - last night the boyfriend shows up at my house with a set of golf clubs - for me! I golfed a fair amount when I was younger (mom & dad were both presidents of their respective gender's golf clubs back when gender was a deciding factor, jeez I'm getting old) ... but haven't golfed in 20 years. By choice. I asked my boyfriend when we first started dating if he'd teach me how and the answer was a resounding no - many reasons, #1 being he's a serious golfer and I don't think he has the patience for a beginner who's "not very good" and also the fact that I don't enjoy watching golf on tv is some kind of big deal (?) ... I thought it would be nice for when we travel if I have at least some passing knowledge of the game so we could enjoy that together, but I happily wrote it off as something I don't have to do and quite frankly forgot about it. Last night he shows up with a set of clubs for me. Then proceeded to school me on "Couple's Night" at the club. I guess I have to learn to golf?!? The man is full of surprises. Although if I have to learn to golf, he has to do yoga. Training has been going VERY well the past little while. I made the decision to not register for the Oly in August and instead registered for the sprint distance, and since I've done that all the pressure is gone - I can just keep having fun and train and race because I want to, not because I feel I have to. I can focus on staying at the distances I'm at and getting faster, not trying to get faster AND add distance. This also gives me time to strength train as well, which I was really missing. Without the long runs and bike rides I have more time for yoga and weights, which makes me immeasurably happy. Life is awesome, isn't it? I wouldn't mind a set of clubs and some lessons! I was thinking about doing oly distance this year too and decided to stick with sprint. Probably a good plan since I've been dealing with silly little injuries constantly. I want to do another half marathon is September, and maybe even train for it this time (body permitting). It's called the Island Girl and it's Hawaiian themed with grass skirts, flip flop shaped medals, live drumming, leis, and fruit. |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Ok just brainstorming for a June challenge but what if we set up 2 teams to compete in a sort of triathlon relay through the month.... each team would log their swimming, biking and running and at the end of the month the team with the most yards/meters/miles etc would win. We'd have to set it up so that each team had even training levels for participants to make it a close race (i.e. each team would have as close to the same amount of people swimming/biking/running shorter distances throughout the month as well as longer distances). We could just assign people to teams based on their projected swim/bike/run numbers for the month. People with injuries who can't do all three sports could just participate in the sports they can physically do right now. We could also just have members set goals and the team with the highest percentage of goals completed wins if thats easier. Alternately, we could have 3 teams (one swim team, one bike team, one run team), a battle of the 3 triathlon sports so to speak. Each team member would set a goal for the month and the 3 teams would compete. The team with the highest percentage of the goals accomplished wins. Participants just pick which team they would like to be on based on which is their favorite sport or which they feel they need the most work on, etc. Opinions??? Master 1623 | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Last day before my grandparents head back to Sweden... may skip my run to hang out with them, it'll probably be another 2 1/2 years before I see them again so I feel it's more important to get time in with them. Will probably do ab work before bed and run in the morning tomorrow... I miss my bike. I left it in Clemson thinking I'd be going back tomorrow but now I'm staying until Monday so I'll have to wait a while to get my bike workouts in. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Emma, I vote for option 2 because then people who are injured can be on the team that works to their advantage and it's less of a logistical issue to set up. Option 1 we would have to look at the distances most people are signed up for and split the groups accordingly. A lot of us don't have too many planned events right now for a variety of reasons so that makes setting a goal distance harder from the get go. |

Master 1346 Gold Coast | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Hi Guys, I am up for any challenge as usual. I should really be in the running team if we are splitting that way as I have a marathon on July 3rd but in favour of not tempting fate, and due to the fact I actually can't run at the moment I will have to be in the bike team. Oh, I know, I would say swim but you all know how much I hate it and I promised myself a massive concerted 8 week effort post marathon on my swim and I can't bring myself to consider it until then! |

Veteran 392 Calgary | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Emma I like Idea #2 ... and put me on the swim team - as that's where my training is concentrated! Guys I'm having a weird day ... feeling just oddly nostalgic and overwhelmed and underwhelmed and sad and beside myself with happiness all at the same time! It was 1 year ago today that the movers came and took away all my stuff, and I spent my last night in my house in Victoria BC ... one year ago tomorrow that I packed up my little Dodge with my precious things (most notably my dog Albert & cat Maggie, and my 102 yr old clock that was given to my great-grandparents on their wedding day in 1909 that still works like it's a day old) and drove as far as Kelowna BC (an 11-hr drive, due to getting lost). Night spent in a hotel, i remember the dog got sick, it was pouring rain, I lost my Oakleys, and room service screwed up my order ... Then a week ago on May 28 was my epic drive from Kelowna to Calgary (again - many hours longer than it should have been due to getting lost, again, I really should have fore-thought a map), arriving in Calgary, and taking possession of my beautiful home and life. It's been a stellar year. Marred terribly by the loss of Albert (17-yrs old he was, and the best thing that ever happened to me - I miss him every day) and the catastrophe with Balin (the other dog that came to me so briefly here) but otherwise the best year of my life! Coming home was the best thing I ever did. I literally thank my lucky stars every day for the life that I have. And that I still have Maggie. Yup ... I'm teary this day. I should point out that the 3 years I lived in Victoria were the worst years of my life, and I was miserable beyond apprehension the entire time I 'lived' there ... it was truly terrible. Yanti will remember me during this time ... I was a different person. |

Elite 2640 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: May Flowers Challenge Glad to be on the team with you two! Must we be restricted to mileage? I don't have anything on my new bike to gage that, and the distance on the spinner isn't realistic. I would like to complete 12 hours of bike training in June, which is the amount of time laid out by the BT plan I am currently... ignoring... We could lay the spreadsheet out similar to recent ones where everyone types in their own goal and a personal percentage is retrieved, then total percentage from everyone on a given team is calculated. This way it's flexible for those who want to do distance or time. What are everyone's thoughts? |
