Hey everyone!  Sorry I haven't been around for the past couple weeks, but I've been in recovery mode and stopped all training except recreational swimming.

I sprained my ankle in February pretty bad and it been hurting off and on since.  After my last marathon I noticed a lot more pain and decided to go see ortho.  I was informed that I've had a continuous sprain of the two main ligaments in my right ankle.  No fracture was found on xray, but the doc says that if the pain doesn't get better in a couple weeks then I'll need an MRI to see if I have a stress fracture in my foot.

So...I've been resting, camping and hanging out w/ my wife and boys.  I got the green light to swim and bike.  I asked when I can run again and the doc said "when it no longer hurts!"

It looks like I'll miss my first state of Hawaii marathon this month (I've done every one for the past year and a half, 6 total).  Buy there's an open water mile swim this month that I'll probably do.

I'll try and catch up on your blogs soon.  Good luck everyone w/ the challenge.  I think I'll sit this one out.  I'm very competitive, and if I set goals I'll probably try and meet them even at the risk of healing properly.  Today is the first day of my swim/bike focus training!  And I was just starting to work on my run speed!

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't posted for awhile. I have been working out of town. I went to a tri clinic last weekend and loved the open water swim. I learned alot. Well this Sunday is my first race. I won't be able to post anything until Tuesday.

My husband has decided he wants to see me race. So I am going to have my own little crowd cheering for me.

I am so excited!

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

Hi all,
Been dragging, but then I workout and love it.

Kinaiaiha - sorry about your ankle. You are such a strong competitor, but I hear that goes with the territory. Sounds great that you are spending time with family.

Carla, hope you're getting some fire under your butt.

I'm missing workouts, but trying to make them up before the week is over.

John,
Here are my totals for week 1 & 2.
week one: wt. = -2; bike = 1h16m; run = 1h6m
week two: wt. = -1; bike = 2h29m; run = 1h

Thanks.

Happy Friday fellow mentees.  Anyone have anything crazy cool planned for the weekend?  Nothing great here...but, I do love weekends.  In fact, I live for them.  I'd like to get in few more workouts than normal.  My eating has been way off track and my weight is headed in the wrong direction!  Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hello,

 No big plans for me! I'm going to do a backwards brick on Saturday AM. Trying to get back to working the plan. To be honest I've never done a backwards brick but I read that it's good for you. Not sure what exactly it does...I'll trust the plan!

 Have a great weekend!

 Ragbrai starts here in Iowa - big deal! I am not riding...I have used all my "get out of kitchen" passes. When my kids get older I will go on the ride across Iowa, but for now I can't see taking a week of vacation to party and ride 80 miles a day!

 Anyone ever did Ragbrai...?

Carla,
What do you think happened that got your eating off track? Sometimes I find if I get busy I don't plan or prepare my food and I find up doing fast food or just grabbing stuff out of fridge.

Not sure what I'm doing this weekend. Training plan calls for a 50 min. steady run and a 75m bike/30m run brick. It's in the mid 90's here so I'm shooting for workouts at the gym.

Not sure where the eating went bad.  I mean, it's never great, but it seems like every meal the last couple of weeks has been the worst possible choice on the menu.  Good news is I'm back down to 163 after the weekend.  Bad news is that I lived on beer all weekend.  Had fun though.

OK, for week one, put me down for 3.2 miles of running and 3000 yards in the pool.  Weight was 165 on Monday and down to 163 by Sunday.  And, I have no idea how many inspires, but more than usual

Results from week one:

26.43 miles on bike
1.7 miles running
1,050 yards swimming

I didn't keep track of the inspires but I had at least 5.

No change in weight.

Jana - yea!!!! That first time is so exhilerating!

Duffers - have you gone to a race and seen how transition areas are set up? It's not complicated, but I wouldn't have thought of some of the routine.

I'm going to be a poopy head. My Cranberry Tri fee from last year (when I wasn't ready) isn't transfering to this year. I just don't feel ready, at least not for the swim part. Thinking I wouldn't have to pay up this year gave me a little nudge.
I'm thinking I should just do a kick sprint. Last two years I just survived them. I also still know I can do a half mary in Oct. and a century ride in Sept.
I'm creeping towards an Iron(Wo)man in two years (when I'm 50).

B: 63.62 Mi

R: 10.37 Mi (mmmmm....this doesn't seem right - the time does, but not the mileage)

Oh yeah - I thought we were starting on July 1 so I gave the first two weeks totals.
Sorry for the confusion. I'd also like to switch to distances instead of total time - I want to do what everyone else is doing!
Last week (week one?) are:
swim = 600 yds
bike = 16.5miles
run = 3.6miles

wt. 164 - no change

I did think the inspires thing through to well.....why don't we just each give ourselves a score from 1 to 3 (3 being the best) based on how close we got to giving three inspres to each person in the week.

MM - what will your goals be now that you are switching to distances?

I am in California but will try to fill in the spreadsheet tomorrow night when I get home and if I get everyone's data I will post it.
