Champion 10742 Ames, IA | Subject: RE: Team Peep Show - The Sequel ^^^^^^^^^ I could not get my status update un-underlined. It's annoying the crap out of me but I had to give up after 5 minutes of messing around. Yes, sometimes I'm OCD like that |

I woke up with hideous throat pain and my throat is actually swelled. I'm waiting to see if being up and having some hot beverages helps. I have a relatively short, but intense trainer ride today (all anaerobic) and really want to make up yesterday's swim. I'm going to wait 30 minutes, confirm I don't have a fever and then do what feels right. As luck would have it, I scheduled a call with my coach today so I can talk to him about this as well. Not Good!!! It sounds like you should see someone. |

Champion 7931 Sequim, Washington | Subject: RE: Team Peep Show - The Sequel 1stTimeTri - 2009-03-06 7:26 AM I wear old broken down suits...they have lost much of their elasticity and anywhere that water can flow through has become very baggy. Old suits become drag suits for training and new suits are for races...not that I have any new suits...disturbed275 - 2009-03-06 6:17 AM mchally - 2009-03-06 1:44 AM 1stTimeTri - 2009-03-05 8:06 PM I much prefer the somewhat-local 50 meter pool. It is salt water. It also is outdoors so it is closed for half of the year. LazyMarathoner - 2009-03-05 10:04 PM 1stTimeTri - 2009-03-05 2:56 PM LazyMarathoner - 2009-03-05 9:00 AM Morning. Ah, sleeping in until 7 was absolute bliss. I could get used to that, but better not. I have a big swim tonight, a little over 3,000. That will be my peach for the day! What's the setup - yards or meters? One pool is yards, one is meters. The pool tonight was meters. I think I'll do it in the yards pool tomorrow though. It's closer. All Americans swim in the yards pool, and everyone else hits the metric pool? I've always wanted to try swimming in a longer pool. Since I've never bothered to learn flip turns I waste a lot of time at the wall I don't do flip turns - you don't do those in the open water, do you? Yeah, it slows you down at the pool, but I don't care myself. I wear baggy swim trunks, too, which adds a lot of resistance. |

They are more than twice as long as the standard 25 yard pool. 1stTimeTri - 2009-03-06 10:26 AM disturbed275 - 2009-03-06 6:17 AM mchally - 2009-03-06 1:44 AM 1stTimeTri - 2009-03-05 8:06 PM I much prefer the somewhat-local 50 meter pool. Yeah, it slows you down at the pool, but I don't care myself. I wear baggy swim trunks, too, which adds a lot of resistance. I don't do them either and likely never will. I've gotten really fast with turns at the wall, you can minimize the time wasted but it will always slow you a bit. But I'm a firm believer that flip turns diminish the workout a bit. People push off the wall so hard they end up gliding a fourth of the length, which doesn't help much for endurance training. 1 Mile Swim Breakdown In a Standard Pool...35.2 laps...70 flip turns. In an Olympic Length Pool...16.1 laps...32 flip turns. There is a little bit of a difference. Edited by mchally 2009-03-06 11:21 AM |

People push off the wall so hard they end up gliding a fourth of the length, which doesn't help much for endurance training. I'll add to that - kicking off the wall is a possible candidate of getting cramps for me (working the calves harder). That is why I choose to keep my push-offs fairly light...just enough to keep a decent momentum...not the long glide. the exception is pool races...I will focus a bit on flip turns before the race to brush up my form and strength. |

Champion 7931 Sequim, Washington | Subject: RE: Team Peep Show - The Sequel disturbed275 - 2009-03-06 8:39 AM Funny thing, my coach noted last night that I was actually keeping up with a couple of the guys in the fast lane until we got to the wall, where their fancy flip turns would instantly gain them at least a body length on me coming off the wall. I gained a at least 6 yards on the guy next to me on every turn in my race...I ended up lapping him twice in a 450 (my form is a bit better as well). It makes a huge difference. |
