Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow! My legs are sore for the stairs yesterday. Stuck at work again today. I think I'm going to take it easy today. Get home tomorrow, do some Easter egg hunting, then hopefully a little bike ride before my wife has to go to work. |

I found this site just recently and I thought it would be a great way to add some structure to my training. 2010 remaining races: Leg 7 of the K-100 Relay Race. I don't have a tri scheduled for this year but I am thinking of trying one this fall. Wow, a guy misses a day and a half and there is 16 pages of posts to catch up on. Fun group! Nothing accomplished so far this month because I woke up yesterday with a really bad cold. Right now I am throwing everything I can think of at it because I need to get over this quickly. Thankfully I hadn't scheduled any training for this weekend as I was going to bring my Mom home from the hospital for Easter weekend tomorrow. Tuesday I will be back on track. Happy Easter everyone! Sorry to hear about your mom. Hopefully she's doing better! |

(The one I'm doing at the end of the month will be my first, so I'm really nervous & excited!) Last year was my first marathon (December 2009, Honolulu Marathon)...and I plan to do it again this coming December. I was really excited and nervous too. But so long as you put in the training, you should be fine. Start out slow, and enjoy it. Word of caution though...if you trained hard, you will be surprised how great you feel on race day due to the taper. My advice is to make sure that you stick to your pace no matter how good you feel...because it's actually supposed to feel "too easy" up till about the half way point...at mile 20 is where the "real" second half of the marathon starts...and you want to make sure you have enough left in the tank to bring yourself home strong. Good luck... Thanks for the advice! I've definitely heard that, too - that mile 20 is the actual 1/2way point of the race. I hear delirium sets in around mile 22. I did my 20-miler last weekend (decided on a 4-week taper because I'm training with a group and the schedules didn't line up exactly for a regular 3-week taper), and boy, I did NOT feel like doing another 10k after that! But I guess there's nothing left to do now but trust my training! I would stick to the 3 week taper. Just like you need to trust your training, you also need to trust that the taper will make the difference the last 10k. I did my last 20 miler about 4 weeks before my marathon and had the same thoughs as you. I was gassed as I finished that LR in a 10:35 per mile pace. But I stuck with the program (I had a 2 week taper) and it was perfect...I ran my marathon in a 9:07 pace. I planned ALL my LRs at 60-90 seconds slower than my goal pace like everyone mentions, but I had no idea if I could run a 9:10 pace for longer than 8 miles because I never did it. Trust your training...and trust the taper. Good luck...it's perfectly normal to have doubts...=) Wow! That's amazing! I usually run the first half of my runs around 11min/mile pace, but when I'm tired my legs speed up to around 10min/mile pace (but I don't feel like I'm pushing it; I with a group, and we always talk throughout our whole run). I know I can hold around 9:15-9:20 pace for 8-9 miles, but I'd be afraid to try running that fast during my race. But who knows, if adrenaline kicks in, maybe I'll run 9's ;-) My goal time is actually 4:15-4:30, but really just finishing would be a great accomplishment! Thanks for the encouragement/advice! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy Saturday, A Team!! So I got my 15-miler in this morning in spite of the wind & rain! Brrr, I was soaking wet and chilled to the bone by the end of my run. . . Ringing water out of my socks and 3 layers of moisture-wicking shirts!! Of course, it stopped raining the second I got done with my run ![]() I'm headed to my folks' house this afternoon, so I'll be relaxing for the rest of the day until I head out there. |

When I looked up the times it failed to mention that it was 21 and over. Seriously...a noon showing of a PG movie??? I guess when they remodeled they built bars in all the theaters. |

That sucks...and is kind of stupid... ![]() Hope you still get to take them! I went to see it last night, and LOVED IT!! I want my own dragon!! Its actually quite funny for us older people...I think I found it funnier than the little kids in the theatre...Alot of jokes that are just above little kids heads I think!! The animals' emotions are priceless! |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone! I am so sorry for taking two days past April 1 to get back on BT. So far I've read through just the first page of posts and have...it looks like another 17 or 18 more to read through to catch up! Before I do that, though, I thought I should probably get on the bandwagon and at least introduce myself. Name: Nell Age: 26 Location: Northern New Hampshire, and enjoying the first really nice weather of the year. However at some point between now and August I'll be moving out to Colorado to start a PhD program. This is causing problems with my racing schedule. Tri Experience: 2nd year, I just did one sprint tri last year and LOVED it! Can't wait for more. I'd like to do at least two sprints and one oly this year. 2010 remaining races: Well, this is interesting. I'm not sure when I'm moving (see, Location) so I haven't been able to sign up for any races. Potentials: BlackBear Duathlon in May, Eastman Splash Mash and Dash in June, something somewhere in July/August, and an Oly in Boulder in September Words you live/train by: I'm built to sprint, so on the long bikes and runs I repeat the following over and over "Long and Strong, Long and Strong, Long and Strong". Somehow it keeps me going. Nice to meet all of you! Now I'm going to get caught up on posts. |

I'm feeling very unmotivated today and have to move my long run to tonight instead of tomorrow afternoon. Not feeling it at all. Paul do you need a kick already? I could have used one. I never made it out the door last night so I had to get up early (which almost never happens on a Saturday) and head out. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Whew! Finally got caught up on posts. Just wanted to add what I'm up to this weekend; went up skiing at Jay Peak today to enjoy 70 degree weather and beautiful spring conditions. Heading up Mt. Washington tomorrow with a friend from Boston. I think I'm going to need a day off on Monday, and then I'm getting into a real training schedule starting Tuesday. I started doing tri training about 3 weeks ago and have been taking it slow, just trying to transition from winter and build a base. As of this week, though, I'm ready to get into things. Bring on the April Challenge! |

That makes me feel better about my 11.5 mile run this morning. I didn't realize it was even windy until I started heading back. Then I wasn't too happy that I left my outer layer by a fence about 2 miles into my run. It wasn't raining and it wasn't 15 miles so I won't complain. Except my shoulders are starting to hurt on my long runs. That's pretty sad when I come home from a long run and the only part that hurts are the shoulders. |
