pilotzs - 2011-01-24 8:30 PM Got on the trainer tonight.

Sand, Did the 20m power test.

Now, what do I do with the data?  How do I find my CP and/or FTP numbers?  I downloaded the data to Golden Cheeta.

Easy.  Open the file in GC.  Few ways to do it:

1.  Go to the ride plot.  Set the smoothing to 1 second.  Hit and hold shift and highlight the 20 minutes that you are interested in.  Once you do that it will add that to your interval list.  Go back to the Ride Summary tab and all the stats will be there in the main (top right) window.  You'll probably have to scroll down to see it.

2.  Open file.  Go to Tools --> Find power peaks.  This will automatically find all peaks from 1sec. to 30 minutes or more and add it to your interval list.  I would assume your best 20 is your test.  You can check this, BTW, by then going to the ride plot and clicking on the interval - it will highlight it for you.

3.  Open file.  Go to Tools --> Find best intervals.  Set it to find one 20 minute interval and it will find it.  (This is better used to highlight the 10x30 second intervals that you did - but it will work for this fine).

4.  Open file.  Go to Tools --> Find power peaks as before.  Save file as .GC file.  Then go to the critical power tab where it sums up your best rides and this one.  You can graphically drag the cursor out to however long you want and the program will tell you your best wattage at that timeframe and the best of that ride.

Awesome!  Nothin' quite like flying through the water.

I have definitely gotten faster from last year, as well.  I tell you, planned well we could sweep the awards in Pensacola.  Train hard, swim hard, and most importantly club every kid under 18 there and we have a shot!

Think we can find anyone else crazy enough to join us? Bama ? Titleloops? Cornfed? Pilotz? Jenni?

I don't think I have the background or experience yet.  Otherwise, I would try.  I definitely wouldn't be sweeping in on any awards with my 2:00/100 pace.  I'm hoping to improve that this spring, by getting some help with my technique.

I thought that was just for races??  maybe I've been training wrong all this time, and that's why my times havn't sky rocketed downward.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks Sand, I'll check it out tonight.  I'm planning on doing a ride tonight, then doing the 3MP either Thursday or Friday.

What I did gather, is that I have a LOT of work to do on the bike.  My average power for the 20MP was 185 and I believe I need to get that up.

I've concentrated on my running all winter and let the other things lag behind.  I think I'll start concentrating on the biking this spring, while still getting my HM training in for March.  At this point, I think I'm hoping that my swimming will just take care of itself, and I'm hopeful that if I can improve my form, i'll be on the right track.

The more I get into the training, the more I'm beginning to understand that we, as triathletes, should be training to be triathletes and not training for 3 different sports, then trying to put it all together.

I ended up going with Runners World Smart Coach.  But I like the way they're semi-customizable.

I agree in part.  I think if you're training for an A-race then you definitely need to balance everything out and have a tri specific training plan.  However, if you're trying to improve an particular area where you're weak I don't see anything thing wrong with doing some really focused training and trying to work the other two in as you can.

Hey everyone!  Am I still welcome here?  It's been several weeks since I've been around.  Went down to Orlando and did the Disney Half Marathon (I sucked!), then I just got back from a week skiing in New Mexico.  Now I'm trying to get back in training mode, and of course it was raining this morning.  Hopefully I'll get out this afternoon...

I saw some chatter about the Pensacola 5K swim, so some of you must not be far.  Anyone thinking of running the Pensacola Double Bridge run?

Welcome back! Whereabouts did you skii in NM? I did some skiing out in the Sandias (along w/ some hiking too) and loved it!!

I do believe Sands and myself are currently planning the Pensacola swim. Sands won his age group last year, and I got my first DNS (wife was in a car accident 3 days prior to starting). I plan on getting my redemption!

You up for it?

You are welcome here anytime.  Try not to be a stranger.

Did you go to Taos?  If so, how was it?  It's on my list of places to head skiing....one day.

I'm not in in the 5k swim, but there are a number of us from Alabama (Birmingham & Huntsville).  Sands did the 5k swim last year, and did pretty well.

When is the double bridge run?

on the quote vs. reply thing...

when quoting, just make sure you're typing outside the quote tags. They look like this [quote /quote]

get on the outside of the second [] and they'll look fine.

I'm in for the swim.  Loved it last year (it was my favorite event last year).  This and the Bourbon Chase are the big things for me this year.

I may have a client and his brother swimming.  Should be a blast again this year.

How about 27h 30m of skiing?  But of course, that counts lift riding time, and I'm not sure what kind of training benefit I get from that.

For those of you who asked, we skiied at Taos.  That is actually my favorite place in the world to ski (well, of the places I've skiied anyway).  The terrain is challenging, the mountain is never crowded, and the people are easy-going.  So despite the conditions being less than ideal (not much new snow), we had a fabulous time!

But now it's back to reality.  I'm finding that getting back to a routine is difficult.  My legs feel really sluggish running, I haven't tried anything else, and my knee is bothering me a little.  I guess I should put a training plan together...

The Pensacola Double Bridge Run is a week from Saturday, February 5th.  I'm thinking about doing it, but there is no packet pick-up on race day.  That would mean two trips over there, and I'm not sure I feel like doing that.

Skiing isn't a cakewalk so it definitely helps.

Just thought I'd share that work is getting in the way. I've had to work late most every night this week and it's effecting my routine and sleep and the next mornings workout.

Work can be a bother!

Work is definitely for the birds! Kids can get in the way as well. Thinking about trading my 3 in on newer models that sleep all night and aren't so needy.

I'm just excited ours has finally decided to wake up only once during the night and then only for 10-20mins. I'm guessing the antibiotics she's on are helping some... but hopefully it continues...
