outdoorWI - 2011-07-11 4:10 PM wow, I'm really nervous today.  Anyone else getting nervous?  There's really nothing to be nervous about though.  we've all trained our butts off, practiced our nutrition and gone over every last detail.  and yet here I am, nervous as can be...

Yes, very nervous. I suppose that is normal but still...

Sorry for the empty post, I guess it's the nerves.

I've started to get really nervous too.  Nervous but excited. I'M more because I've been battling a knee injury and am unsure of how it's going to hold up on the run.

So does anyone have any advice for someone doing their first HIM? Mostly about what time to get to transition and what to expect on race day so I'm prepared.....

Yep, nervous here too.  First HIM and am worried most about the swim.  I bought a swim cap that is suppose to keep your head warm for cold water swims.  I have ear plugs too.  Can someone tell me what the benefit is to wearing them.  I heard it was to prevent dizziness when coming out of the water?  I'm definetely bringing ear plugs then.

I wasn't going to bring my fuel belt, but now I think I will.  I would hate to stop at an aid station only to be told there is no water or gatorade.  That would be a little scary.

Yes, nervous here too.  Don't know why either.  This will be my third 70.3 and as far as tapers go, this one feels better than the others from a physical standpoint, but harder from a mental standpoint.

Can't wait for our BT get together Saturday night.

KimK/#562 glad you are coming to dinner.  We can hang out on the beach before our wave and be nervous together

Some nervous energy here too, so I used it to clean my bike!  Sparkly!

Funny about the water suggestion, I always do my training runs with a water belt, but never a race.  But I had been thinking I might hydrate better on the run with my water belt...now it's settled, I'll be the geek with the water belt (along with all the rest of you geeksCool).

well, let's all just not be nervous anymore.  Deal?  Deal.

The lake was pretty warm over the weekend.  Probably 70, if not pretty dang close.  Let's hope they stay this warm or warmer for this weekend.

still nervous?  yep, me too.

Nervous first time HIM here too, mostly nervous about the likely heat/humidity since I feel like I have trained well but most of my training is done early in the AM and anyway it didn't get hot here until very recently.  I am in the 3rd to last wave, looking at a very hot 1/2 marathon, and today's front pager on the Milwaukee paper didn't help:

http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/125290458.html

Maybe the IM folks will have seen this and plan on extra water to avoid similar publicity?

Anyway, planning on running with some fuel on my belt, but likely won't be able to carry enough to make it all the way through.

all you Racine vets; for race check in is it better to  grab race packet first then check bike or check bike first?  I'm flying in and will be putting the bike together in the parking lot at the expo.

Also, is the racking system first come/ first choice or is it assigned?  Thanks for all info!

I think it would be better to get your packet first, then you'd have your number with you when you rack your bike (I think you need it to get the bike into transition).

Is there a website for tracking participants?  (out of town family is asking)

According to the Ironman website, looks like there will be athlete tracking available online.

Will there be live on-line tracking and results on race day?
Yes, please visit www.ironman.com for live race day coverage including athlete tracking and up-to-date race results.

Not sure if that's right?  Oh well, not a big deal.   :D

I'm a little nervous myself (ok, a lot if i stop and think), but mostly I'm excited. We have all trained well... we have had good weeks, we have had bad weeks, but our bodies will know how to get through the distance, so I keep telling myself now is the time to rest and trust my training and ENJOY the weekend! Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and having dinner together!!

Also really looking forward to a kid-free weekend (5 and 2, boys ).. I love my kidlets, but as a SAHM, a rare moment by myself is gold... so having a whole weekend to myself (coming up with a girlfriend) is definitely something to look forward to! We are staying Sun night, too, to .. you know... properly celebrate

Ok, questions (i hope somebody knows the answers):

Are we seriously not allowed to have earphones on the run? (that would be a huge bummer, but not worth getting disqualified over, so I'd like to know..)

also... is it safe to leave my iPhone in the transition bag? If i can't use it during the race, I technically don't need it.. but I'll be meeting up with a gf afterwards, so having a phone would be a huge help in finding each other.

OR (if leaving the phone unattended is not a good idea), any recommendations for good meet up places after the race? I've been to enough downtown Chicago races where no one can find each other for (seems like) ever, b/c it's so crowded, I'd like to avoid that pleasure after 7 hours of enjoying the heck out of the elements

That's the site they host it off of, but have them go to www.ironman.com .   Ironman will add in links for the days races.  They'll be dead center near the top, very hard to miss.  Usual links will be Athlete Tracker, which is what you linked to, but the race day one will be for the correct race (Racine in this case).  Know that this sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, or is delayed.  Just in case it's slow, so they don't worry if your times are slow to come up.

The other link (if they have it posted) will go to Race Updates.  This is live (or within a few minutes) co

Nope, no earphones.

I've left my phone in my transition bag many times. Haven't had a problem.
