Hey all - I've been sucking at logging/blogging lately. My apologies for that - I haven't been a very good team member! I am still swimming - will update the spreadsheets today.

Swimming's about all I've been doing - I too am injured (again) although it's just a minor hamstring pull that will heal in no time, it is the result of pushing myself to run 5K at the race last weekend undertrained and unprepared. It's scared me, and it's pointed out the obvious to me - I have no business racing right now. I have not been serious enough with my training, my base fitness was too crappy (read: nonexistent) so it could not carry me through, and I only have myself to blame.

I've done some deep thinking and soul-searching the past week - and I've decided to pull out of the triathlon I am registered for in 2 weeks (no, I'm not going just to have fun, this is so far from what I should be doing right now that it resembles nothing remotely close to fun) and the tri in August is tentative. I am still planning to swim in the relay in September (as I love swimming).

My plan now is to focus on weight-loss and just working out at the gym for fun, re-build my base fitness over the next 10 months then go at it hard next year.

A big part of this decision of mine was trying on my wetsuit last week, and discovering I can't get it up over my arse never mind on and zipped up properly. I need to lose 20lbs before I can even think about encasing myself in that suit, and I need that suit for all of my upcoming races. I cannot afford, nor do I intend, to buy (or rent) a "fat wetsuit". It's one thing to drop $100 on cheap "fat clothes" at the mall, but a wetsuit crosses a line for me.

I'm still going to hang out on BT because you people amuse me. :-)
But I'm not going to be using the logs here, as I've started a more detailed weight-loss journal off-line.

So there it is in all its ugly truth. Undecided

Sounds like we're in the same boat.  I just started my weight loss/get back in shape program today.  Took all my measurements which was a little upsetting but at least now I have my starting point and it will only get better from here.  I'll still be running and biking but I'm doing Jillian Michaels' workout DVD and making changes to my diet as well.  I've decided to hold off on triathlons until next year. I will hopefully run enough to work up to a Half marathon in November.  Good luck to you!  Hope that hamstring gets better soon!

I thought about joining but I don't fully understand the rules... I think that's because I have never watched TdF.

So I am injured again!! Luckily it doesn't technically affect this challenge, but it will affect my triathlon coming up. I hurt my wrist last Sunday at the Spartan Race (like a good Spartan!) and the hand department at my clinic today voted unanimously that I probably have a fracture. Rest, splint, x-ray...

I have been on my spinner all week to reduce pressure on it and now I have been advised to stay off of my real bike until I find out what's going on... BOO!

Oh no Melissa!

{MELON PRESS} and kisses for the wrist ...

All better!!

Oh, I wish that worked.

Just go over the thread and sign up.  It's really pretty simple.  Here are the Cliff Note directions:

1) Sign up

2) Decide how many days (stages) you are going to ride your bike during the dates of the TdF (July 2- July 24)

3) Choose how many total miles or km or time you are going to ride

There are a couple of other rules, but these are the most important.  Cat will set up the teams closer to July 2nd.

My official split was better than I thought!  9:11 for 400 meters....average 2:06/100 which is still slow, but better than my usual.

Oh no, sorry people with injuries and sorry TR and Emma that you guys aren't where you want to be right now but if you are working on it then before you know it changes will be appearing!

Yanti and Tracey, I just added myself to the TdF challenge. If I don't get Team Sky then I might sneak in on your thread every now and then anyway! Melissa, you should join too - I don't watch TdF but the challenge seems fun!

Oh, and my super awesome exciting, couldn't sleep most of the weekend news - I got home on Friday night and my husband surprised my with a brand new bike he had ordered for me. It's a Merida Reacto Team and I have had my eye on it for about 6 months now. I was hoping I might be able to get it in the next 12 months and had saved up a little bit for it but I never ever dreamed he would get it for me! It's so pretty it's currently living in our spare room, not in the garage with the other 4 bikes. I have pedals on order and will get a proper fit done as soon as they arrive. So exciting!!!!

Pictures will most definitely follow. Call me crazy but I haven't ridden it yet and I don't want to, or take photos, until I have my pedals and get it set up properly. I think the pedals will take a week or so so I should be taking pics and riding it on the weekend after next - woot woot! (actually not it, I have already named him, Max )

Just got home from Lake Tahoe yesterday evening.  I had a race in Tahoe City Saturday morning.  It was unbelievable how much snow is still present on the slopes around the lake.  The water was a tropical 52 degrees and the run course had several areas of deep snow.

The amount of snow in the Sierras this year is just unimaginable for us in California.  In fact, one of the ski resorts was advertising "fireworks and skiing" for the 4th of July.  Crazy!
