Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() cdban66 - 2012-01-15 3:59 PM I had the opportunity to play a gig with my old band last night. So I ended up getting up late this morning, went to late church and generally got a late start to the day. So I finally got out to run around 12:30, and I did 8 miles in the fastest training pace I've had for that type of distance in quite some time. And, no knee pain. I am stoked. I hope everyone has had a good weekend, and if you get Monday off, keep the good weekend going! Congrats on the run! My husband is a musician, and it's always hard for him to get going the day after a gig. I don't know how you guys do it after the age of 30. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KansasMom - 2012-01-16 1:15 AM I had a great day today. My husband left for a conference in LA at noon, so we went to early church, then after he left for the airport, we had naps. At about 3:00, the two little boys and I went to the pool. They splashed around while I swam for 35 minutes, then I watched the little guy, so my middle son could do some cannon balls and swim a couple laps. The swim was so inspiring (my first real swim since before Thanksgiving, for one reason or another), that after we got home, I went out for a 35 minute run. I was so relieved that I could still swim. ;-) And watching my 5 year old with his floaty on, swimming all over the shallow end made me feel so happy. I went over to hug him during one of my breaks, and he was all indignant -- "Don't touch me!!! Don't touch me!!!" and he swam away. lol I have to work tomorrow, but that's okay. My middle son is the only one who has the day off, so he's going to sleep in and then ride his bike to my office to have lunch with me and my oldest son when he gets out of class. I hope everyone enjoys the day Monday, whatever it is you have to do -- work, play, rest, or train. I'm glad you're feeling better! Swimming with the kids is one of my favorite things to do-But, I like it best when we're in the lake. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Happy MLK day! Everyone in my family has the day off, except me. My kids have been learning a lot about MLK in school. I'm psyched- because their school is not very culturally diverse, and the teachers could easily ignore the importance of his life. It's pretty cool to hear a 5 year old quote the "I have a Dream" speech. I'm still feeling great from yesterdays run! 4.5 miles is the longest I've done in quite a while- and there were no walk breaks! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is so cool, I am excited for everyone. Gains made running, fun family swims, and just overall goodness across the board. It is so nice to hear. Keep up the great work, not only with your own training goals but more importantly, with your family time. Never underestimate the importance of the time you get with family, nor take it for granted. Trust me, before you know it, the house is empty and they are off in the world. This is not a bad thing, it has become a chance for my wife and I to rediscover each other. I have re-found exercise and today my wife and I are going to the LBS to rent something in an effort to find a comfortable bike for her. She is not as naturally athletic as me, and has a health issue as well, but she makes the effort, and that is awesome. She will never let anything slow her down and that is soooo inspiring to me. And inspirational is what all of you are as well. Keep up the great work. |

It's pretty cool to hear a 5 year old quote the "I have a Dream" speech. I'm still feeling great from yesterdays run! 4.5 miles is the longest I've done in quite a while- and there were no walk breaks! My oldest son's class did that when he was in the 5th grade. The class memorized the speech and then recited it as a group, responsively. I get choked up just thinking about it. Everyone was in tears by the end. It was so beautiful and powerful. Although I work today, the college is having a guest speaker at 1:00 today to talk about one of Dr. King's sermons. My oldest son has class, but I'm going to drag my middle son to it with me. :-) Edited by KansasMom 2012-01-16 9:06 AM |

New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jsnowash - 2012-01-16 3:51 AM Happy MLK day, everyone! Anybody off work today? I am at work, but going to leave early to do all the weekend-dy things I didn't get to do yesterday (grocery shop, laundry). We had to make an impromptu run to Seattle yesterday to purchase a car, so that took my entire day. I did get out for my half mary on Saturday. The weather was a little brutal, but I finished. I was sooooooo slow. This is going to be another tough week for me for training. I teach tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday am. Going to try to maybe hit the pool again on Thursday, maybe run outside again during lunch on Wednesday. Of course this is all weather dependent as it keep threatening to snow.... Do you guys budget for races? I always kind of approached my races as a small annoyance to my finances, but I find that the more I do this the more it's digging into my pockets. I feel like I need to start a "triathlon" envelope so that every time I register for a race it doesn't end up making me feel poor (ha ha). |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Everyone seems to be doing great. My knee is holding up so far. Today was my first day at my winter bike training class. Its great that I can use my own bike. IT IS HARDER THAN SPIN CLASS!! Maybe its because I feel like I can't slack off with only 12 people there. We can see each other. I was hot and sweating at 5:45 in the morning. I biked for an hour then I ran 5 miles afterwards. I ran 2 mins/mile faster than I do after I swim. No school today so we did movies, lunch out and the mall with the kids. Now I am tired. My neighbor wants to do an evening spin class but I know to take it easy so I am passing. You guys ae inspiring. It does motivate me to keep going. Lovey |

Happy day - Happy day...I SOLD MY BIKE!! After only deciding to sell Friday morning. I'm so excited, got my asking price...now off to shop for a new tri bike..yeah!! Unfortunately..my enemy wintery mix is once again looming for tomorrow and the kids have a 1/2day Wednesday so looks like i have to wait till Thursday to get started. Run then swim workout tomorrow..hoping the kids don't have a delay. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It was the strangest thing, the next morning my toe was fine! No pain, nothing! So strange!!! We finally got everything with the house done as far as the insurance goes. They began doing repair work today! Hooray!!! In about a month we will be back at home and we cannot wait! Until then we are staying in a hotel in a 2 bedroom suite. We are being well taken care of but trying to train is tough. I am going to try and get back on a good routine tomorrow! Thanks for asking! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My foot is great! The next morning my toe was fine, it was like nothing happened. I still have no idea what was wrong with it. I didn't want to "re-injure" it before my half marathon so I decided to swim and just not put too much pressure on it. I was not really able to train for the race but I did PR (dropped 10 minutes) and I experienced little pain. I didn't really get too winded. I would listen to my music and run for one song and then walk at a brisk pace for another song. It was great until mile 8 when my quads began to ache. Mile 9 made my calves burn. mile 10 made my glutes feel like I had been kicked in the butt over and over again. After mile 9 i did mostly walking. I did run across the finish line in 3:23:04. I was excited that I PRed. My next half is March 4th and I am planning to actually train this time! I also have my first tri coming up on March 10th. I am getting prepared for that as well. I am beginning to train tomorrow. Hopefully all of my soreness is out by then! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry I haven't been on much We are in a hotel so I haven't really been able to train plus my husband and 18 month old both have a cold so that is miserable. The good news is that in about a month we will be back in our house! Hooray! They began working on our house today. I ran and finished my second half marathon on Sunday. I paid for not training. My lungs worked fine. I was barely winded. I ran for 1 song in my playlist, and walked briskly for one song. It worked really well up until mile 8, then I began to break down. My quads felt the pain first. Mile 9 brought pain in my calves, and mile 10 decided to surprise me with an intense pain in my glutes. Oh goodness! I did manage to PR by 10 minutes making my time 3:23:04 (I am a SLOW runner). The race was wonderful and I cannot wait to do it again next year! I am beginning my sprint try training tomorrow. I have a 10k coming up 2/25, a half marathon on 3/4, and my first ever tri on 3/10. I am pretty excited and I am ready to focus on training. Since I am still a little sore from Sunday I am going to do a bike and swim tomorrow. That should help the soreness. Hope everyone is having a great week so far and don't forget to smile. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow congratulations on the half marathon! You guys are inspirations, for sure. I went to another boot camp conditioning class tonight. We started out with another timed mile run. I did this one in 9:10. The last one (a few weeks ago) was 10:20 9okay, I walkd a little on that one...) But still! Wowza! Then the instructor kicked our butts with this deck of cards workout routine. we took turns drawing cards, and then doing what the card said to do. Hearts stood for one thing, then clubs another, etc. The face cards (J, K, Q, Joker) stood for 60 seconds of one thing each. So, for example 8 of hearts = 8 pushups, jack of diamonds = 60 seconds plank, 9 of clubs = 9 burpees and so on. We did 42 cards without stopping. I am toast right now!
Tomorrow I go in for the MRI on my shoulder. Hopefully it says nothing's wrong and that I just need to get all the muscles back in balance. I'll feel a lot better knowing it's ok to push through the pain I've been having. I had planned on going to masters swim in the morning for the first time in a looong time. Do you think it's a good idea to go to master's a few hours before the MRI? Or should I sit out until I can catch the nex master's class next week? Keep in mind I haven't been able to swim more than 600 yards at a time for almost 6 months because of my shoulder. |

Find out what seems to be the issue and develop a plan from there. FWIW. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was in a rush to get to my treadmill before I changed my mind. I was a mile in, one leg felt odd, looked down and realized I had on 2 different foot of shoes. I had my current running shoe on the left and an old running shoe on the right. They weren't even close in color, black and white. I shortened my planned workout to 2 miles to prevent injury. I got 2 miles in. I may do another shot run tonight. hehehe. That's a good one! I haven't done that in years, and fortunately it was in high school, my normal daily shoes, and the shoes were pretty similar. Good thinking to cut it short so you don't injure yourself. |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Latest round of 20 minute Jorge plan testing completed. Really hate those test days. Improve my 20 min power from 260 to 270. Not as much as I had hoped, but my legs were still feeling a bit fatigued from the accumulation of the entire plan. Also trying to fit runs in to balance with the bike plan has been challenging. Can't wait for the pool to open so I can switch to some different muscle groups. Glad to hear about all the other good workouts and success stories. |
