Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Question on nutrition - I liked Bryan's thoughts on doing fastes aerobic workouts. I've been doing that for quite some time, and have felt fine. My question is, what are the thoughts on eating within the 30 to 45 min. window after working out. Is it really that important for recovery? I've heard both arguments, that yes it's very important, to no, it's an old wives tale. What does everyone else on here do? |

Is it really that important for recovery? I've heard both arguments, that yes it's very important, to no, it's an old wives tale. What does everyone else on here do? I do every early a.m. workout fasted - even the long bikes and long runs (though I will have a gel or 2 on the run or bike if I didn't eat a solid dinner the night before). I don't want to eat at 5 a.m. I eat a regular breakfast after my weekly workouts, which are only 60-80 minutes long. I drink a large glass of milk after the long weekend workouts, and then I eat a really big breakfast (like waffles, pancakes, lots of fruit and syrup). Edited by jarvy01 2011-12-27 11:36 AM |

I believe that the meal timing has been debunked a bit by several dieticians and sports nutritionists. My feeling is that this "window" has been a bit over hyped to get people to eat after working out. It's much like eating small meals throughout the day to lose weight, overhyped. That said your body is going to crave the nutrients/cals that you expended. It also is the time that your glycogen utilization is prime. So for those on a restricted carb format eating the carbs at this time is best. If you're not on a restricted carb diet than you should be able to get enough recovery nutrients in throughout the day that the window doesn't mean that much in reality. |

Just have a bunch of water and healthy meal after your high load workouts. You can use recovery products but dont need to. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Damn, after reading all this, I just want to be able to run without the IT Band pain. I've decided to give it a few weeks off this time, instead of letting it linger on. I plan to be on the trainer 2 weeks post shoulder surgery, which will also give me some time to rest the legs. 40 minutes of Strength training at lunch today. I continue to laugh everytime I go. If it's not the dude walking around with the gallon of water, it's the dude flexing in the mirror and staring at his own abs!! And not being shy about it. Unreal!!! Although I agree with Scott on not having to eat 30-45 minutes post workout, I do enjoy a quick glass of Muscle Milk or some sort of whey Protein. Scott, what are your thougths on Muscle Milk. I liked the fact it had the Whey/Cassein mix. Muscle Milk actually mixes very well with water alone. |

I think the fat content is high for someone trying to lose weight. It's the same fat content that makes the taste so darn good though. |

Extreme Veteran 610 San Francisco CA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I'm also back on the bandwagon with the clean eating starting tonight. The husband and I agreed last night that we both feel gross from the holidays and want to get back to eating lots of fruits and veggies and protein. Going to try to bring lunches to work more often too, I've gotten in the habit of grabbing something from the numerous lunch places here in downtown SF, which is neither good for the waistline nor the wallet. |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Those look awful! There's a donut place near me that has glazed donuts wrapped in bacon. They heat them up and pour maple syrup on them before serving. I do not like donuts or bacon, but there are a huge seller. We are having homemade tomato soup and fresh brussel sprouts tonight. I ate really good today too. I need the holidays to be over! |
