Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stephsprint....thanks. There are so many plans out there, not sure which is the best. I just kind of been winging it. Doing what feels right at the time. Untill I have a set work out schedule Im just trying to cover the basics. I have till August 4th till race day. Its funny how little support I have from friends and family. They think its a joke or a waste of time. The biggest joke is the tri shorts or the speedo. Sure Im over weight, so let them have their laughs. I have been athletic all my life. Im 39, and I let myself go the last 6 yrs. Im not trying to relive my past...Im trying to regain who I am. Sports were who I was...still am. Im an athletic director and coach so its still a big part of my life. Time to practice what I preach to the kids. No more excuses, no more blaming life, its time to take back my identity. Its not what others think of you...its what you think of yourself that counts. Thanks for all the support guys!

You have the right attitude. Go for it and don't let anyone or anything stop you! People still think I'm crazy but they quit laughing when I fit back into a dress I hadn't worn in 8 years. The most amazing part of this journey has been discovering me (and when I found out that there are actual muscles in my thighs). You'll always have support from the mentor group and other BT'ers that's why we are here! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I notice several people are having some confusion with responding to inspires. If you type in the bottom box it is only replying on your own logs. If you look to the right of the person's inspire there is a little pencil icon with the word reply. Click on that and then a 2nd box pops up on that person's log. Type under their original message and hit submit and then your reply will be in their logs instead of your own. Hope that helps a bit. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just signed up for an off-road HM. It is next weekend and is held at a wetlands park. I did a 3 mile hike there today and counted at least 16 gators. They were all within 5 feet of the path. 2 or 3 of them watched me very closely as I passed by - that was kind of creepy! The key to this race is to make sure I am not first (not a problem) and not last Hope you all are having a good training weekend.

New user![]() | ![]() Glad to see I'm not the only true Newbie here. Right now I'm working on 30 min sessions of running, swimming and biking. My boss got the staff a personal trainer which is working us out 2 days a week boot camp style. It's getting all of us to use muscles we didn't know we had. This week I start with my own personal trainer for 1 hour 1x a week. I'll be asking her to try to work on a plan that will fill in the blanks and help me train for the Tri Sprint I'll be doing in June. I think a little weight lifting might not be out of the question at this point. I'm also working on the diet, leaning toward the Paleo eating, but not committed to it 100%. Patricia oak73 - 2012-02-02 6:04 PM Well just did my first brick...wasnt that bad...but I will tell tomorrow. I biked for 10 miles then ran for 15 minutes for a total of 1.3 miles. I know my times and distances are low, but I am so far out of shape. I have let my self go for too long. Got a long way to go, but Im off the couch...thats a start. |

New user![]() | ![]() You are so talking about me, lol. I'll keep working on it. Emails are so much easier. I'm doing better at the logging of exercise tho, one thing at a time. There is a lot of stuff on this site for sure. Patricia GmrGirl - 2012-02-03 11:28 PM I notice several people are having some confusion with responding to inspires. New user![]() ![]() | ![]() please tell me the transition from bike to run gets better with more practice and training!?!? Biked 12 miles and ran 1.5 today. My legs felt like jello. Running is my strongest sport out of the 3 and I wasn't prepared to feel like I couldn't run my typical 8-8:30 pace. |

It does get easier with practice, although you will always feel a bit funky for the first 1/3 to 1/2 mile or so. Try standing up on the bike at the very end of your ride to stretch the legs out a bit. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MultiRace just posted the Egghunt Triathlon on April 7th. Might just make that one my second Tri! It's still running season down here though, so we'll see what else is scheduled for that weekend. May is 4 5ks! Also, 13.1 Miami Beach is my 4th, and last, half marathon. GAWD! I plan to break 3 hours. Deseame Suerte! |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I just logged in today's and yesterday's workout and looked ahead to tomorrow's which is supposed to be a 50-minute swim. The day before yesterday I was only able to swim 20 minutes before queasiness drove me out of the water. This has happened a few times, where about 15 minutes after swimming I start to feel like I want to "Leggo my Eggo" so to speak. It has happened on any empty stomach, and an hour after consuming food. It's frustrating because I don't feel tired or winded and really don't want to cut the swim short, but I'm really afraid of barfing in the pool. Could it be motion sickness? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I pop some Dramamine before hopping into the water? Please help! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello everyone...just checking in. Im not sure what is happining, but my calfs are starting to cramp up pretty bad. I had to end my swim short today, they were cramping up so bad I wanted to scream. I just started a new job this week and Im not use to getting up that early and working, so Im hoping that is the problem. I dont eat breakfast that early in the morning so I just stopped at the store and bought some slimfast shakes and some bananas...that should be all the potasium I need. Any other suggestions would be great.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() oak73 - 2012-02-08 8:45 PM I was just on facebook and I saw an add for a Spartan Race. Its a 5k obsticale race...has anyone seen this or has done this before? It said that 98% of the racers finish. Says for all levels of athletes...is this too much for me? Well... I'm not sure. I think if you can enjoy it, any race is a good time. If you think you might need a certain level of fitness before you do it, then listen to yourself. I know people who do them because they like the rush, or they like to dress up. I know people who've done them and hurt themselves and been REALLY pissed that they screwed up their bodies for events that are 'important' to them. Which brings me to your 2012 race schedule. It's usually a good idea to plan your year now. Your first triathlon might be your "A" race.... or it might just be a "B or C" race. Your "A" race might be a big race later in the summer. In any event... your most important race is your "A" race. The one you really want to do, be ready for, do well at... etc. etc. ANY OTHER RACE WHICH DOES ANYTHING BUT HELP YOU GET READY FOR YOUR "A" RACE, is not worth doing... OR, you can just do it because you might think it's fun. Fun is always a good reason to do a race, but keep in mind, it might be more of a challenge than you are ready for. |

Calf stretches morning AND night... and make sure you are stretching your hips and hamstrings... often these issues come from above as well as below. You need to keep yourself limber. Warming up and cooling down are MORE important at this point than your actual workouts. If you only have 30 mins to workout, then warm up 5 and cool down 10... and only WORK for 15. See what I mean? Take it from someone who didn't, PAID FOR IT, and does it now... stretch stretch stretch... |
