Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() WOW! Before you know it you'll be treading water waiting for the gun to go off! I though about you this weekend KC - I ended up having to do my 3 hour ride on the trainer and was about 2-1/2 hours in and stood up to stretch my calves and I must have closed my eyes and lost my equilibrium because before I knew it I was leaning left and about to go over. It took every bit of strength, balance and will power to not tip over and my HR went up about to about Zone 10 -haha. I would have gone right into my coffee table. kcgolf - 2012-05-15 4:09 PM Hey Team. 87 Days and I will be at IM NYC - Edited by tmoran80 2012-05-16 9:03 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() cheekymonkeys1 - 2012-05-15 8:14 PM I did my longest run ever last Friday. 18 miles (+2 walking) The first 11 went well, the rest was truly awful. I messed up with nutrition and as a result had absolutely no legs. We are tweaking a few things for this Friday when I should hit 20 miles. This will be my last long run before race day. I am a little uneasy about only covering 20 in training, but apparently this is the norm. Hopefully I can get this nutrition thing right this time. Happy training Team! Nice work on the long run Deb. If you can run 20 mile boring training you can run a 26 mile marathon with the crowds and family cheering you on. It is just mental thing. Good idea to get that nutrition tweaked so you are ready. The one thing I would suggest is to really focus on your pacing on the 20 miler. Make mental notes of how you feel at certain points and make sure you have some left in the tank at the end of your run. Running a solid marathon takes not only guts and determination but brains and the ability to not change your game plan. I have only come close once to figuring this out after 5 marathons haha. If you feel good at mile 13 - DON'T PICK UP THE PACE!! Stick with your plan and you will do great. BUT... you have to practice that so make use of your 20 miler! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will make the mental notes Tim, thank you. I think this was totally a nutrition issue. I've lowered my overall calories recently in a bid to loose weight, that combined with poor fueling just had me beat. So question for those that train with power, what are your opinions on this..... http://nh.craigslist.org/bik/2977328726.html. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am glad to know that I am not the only one who fell over on their trainer. It was later discovered that the reason why I fell over was because I didn't have the bike securely in place. Now I always check to make sure the bike doesn't move. |

![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm doing good. Wife had surgery today so I've been preoccupied for a bit.
Bike - 21.7 unofficial average for a 20K windy time trial Tuesday. Official may be a bit lower, we'll see. Testing puts my FTP at 314. Highest last year before Ironman was 319, virtually the same and it's 6 months earlier in the year. Run - doing great still since the 12K race when I took 30 secs/mile off my PR. Swim - still improving. Taking another lesson in 30 mins. Strength - kettlebells. I'll never give them up now. Nutrition. - down another pound on Paleo. Hit 205. My goal. I'm going to try to shave some more, what the hell. All good. Gotta go. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hello Team. I hope everyone is having a great weekend. The weather is amazing. Had one of my best bikes ever this morning and a great run after. Be safe everyone. KC |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys - hope everyone is doing good. Sorry have not been around but was just swamped at work and had my first race this weekend. Race went good and took another 3 minutes off my previous PR. I went in with the mentality that I was gonna push the bike really hard just to see what would happen. This is an extremely hilly bike course. I did just that a paid for it a little on the run but overall I was happy with the results. Here is my race report and also the bike course elevation (over 1000' climbing in 16.8 miles) http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=441299 |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nice work Tim! I went for an easy 17 mile ride with a friend today. The quad felt great, I even climbed a couple smaller hills out of the saddle and no pain or anything. I took three steps jogging off the bike, and felt the quad pull, enough for me to be smart about it and skip my run, but it is much less painful than last weekend. We are camping next weekend on Rock Island, so I am going to save my running for next weekend and run on the trails on the island, so the beginning of my week will be heavy on biking and swimming which will be good since it doesn't bother my quad. First bump in the road with training, but early enough so I am grateful I can adjust and run in the pool and bike more. Tomorrow is a 30-40 mile ride with 10-15 2:00 efforts. I am looking forward to this ride! The semester is FINALLY over for me at work, so now I need to focus on getting final grades in, and then it's summer schedule for me. Since we work so many hours during the school year, our summer schedule is very relaxed, and my boss prefers not to see us at all in July, which works well for me with my training! Jenny |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks Jenny - glad to hear your quads feel better. I wonder if this the point in IM training that your body starts realizing something is not right-haha.. I just started getting shin splints which I havn't had in years. I have to dig up my old exercises and hopefully prevent them from getting worse. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well we got back from Galena and I had to cut the grass and then of course when I am getting ready to go on my 3-1/2 hour ride thunderstorms come into the area with 20-25 MPH winds. I'm about to head into the basement with Coach Troy again or another sufferfest on the IMWI DVD - ugh ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK- I am back after 4 days of 13+ hour work with 2 hour drive time. The half marathon went off with great success. The participants had little to no idea of the issues that we had from a logistical standpoint. I am looking forward to a run and swim tomorrow. I guess I will bike a time or 2, but I really miss the running. Glad to hear some success on the race front. I am scheduled to do my first race of the season on June 16 - a sprint tri at Eagle Creek Park in Indy. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tim, great job on the race. You mention that you cut your T1 time in half, what did you do differently this time? Jenny, I understand about your quads. You have a great attitude about it as it is still early in the season and you have plenty of time to get better. I visited my PT on Friday and he confirmed what I was feeling, my hamstring issue is no more. I am running pain free after dealing with it the last 3 months and it showed on my brick run on Saturday. I believe my husband is more excited that I am doing IMKY then I am. He has created a Facebook page for our friends to give me encouragement during my training and to keep up to date on my progress. I couldn't ask for anything better as he has really stepped up to the plate and is helping me out. Have a great week training everyone! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I got my 3-1/2 trainer ride done and it wasn't that bad. Week 14 in the books and looking forward to my rest day tomorrow. Kathy - I just tried to eliminate as much as I could - I decided not to mess with the Garmin and HR monitor and just opted for my trusty Ironman watch, I got rid of my little tub of water to rinse my feet from the sand and gravel in T1 (its a terrible transition area) - so basically it was a towel with my bike shoes and my helmet and glasses on my aero bar - and I made sure I ran to the bike and with the bike. KC - Glad to hear you had a good bike this weekend. Did you take it back to get some tweaking done to your fit? I saw a guy this weekend with your bike - it is pretty sweet but i only saw it for a minute because he passed me pretty quick haha. Brian - glad to hear your race went good. There really must be so much behind the scenes that nobody even realizes. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tim - nice job on the race! Kathy - glad to hear that your hamstring is no longer an issue! I did my first race of the season and it was a doozie! The air temp was colder than the water temp and the reservoir had 2-3 foot waves that were breaking on our faces. The white caps were relentless! I've never experienced waves like that in a rez swim. People were having to be pull out of the water by the kayaks left and right. Needless to say it was my slowest swim ever and I had to do a combination of breast stroke/doggie paddle most of the way...but at least I got it done. The bike was good and the run was one of my better ones! Good race overall |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen -way to stick it out on the swim. Looks like you had a pretty good race after that. How did the foot feel? So I realized this weekend that it was the first time since September that I WASN'T thinking about Ironman Wisconsin since I had my race in Galena. It was actually nice to take a little mental break and focus on a little different race strategy. I also had an issue with my goggles at the race. I have this very abusive relationship with Aqua Sphere goggles. I am now on my 4th pair due to leaking. I kind of compare it to a bad relationship with some crazy girl. Every once in a while you kind of lose you mind (maybe your a little drunk) and you call her over late at night. You then wake up and say "What the hell did I just do?" Well I had my moment of weakness at MC Sports last week while getting some baseball stuff for Evan and bought the Aqua Sphere Seal goggles thinking "there is no way this massive set of goggles can leak-right?" I swam with them on Friday in the pool and realized I had to put the goggles under my swim cap or the cap would interfere with the seal. Well 100 Yards into my OWS on Saturday and the left goggle starts to leak water. I couldn't believe it - these things are the next closest thing to a diving mask and they were still leaking. Does anyone else use Aqua Sphere. Is my face lopsided or something? What the hell is going on? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Team. I hope everyone had a great weekend and Monday. Tim: Awesome job on the race and hope your shin splints are ok. Make sure you log that lawn work LOL. I use aquasphere and occasionaly have trouble with leaking as well. Let me know if you figure it out. I got the bike adjusted and I love it. Feels much better and I am sure I am not finished with it. Jenn - how was ride today? My spring semester ends at the end of May and hopefully things will slow down a bit. Brian - awesome to see you. I know what you are talking about - there is a lot of work that goes into planning events (golf for me) and most people don't get it but are appreciative of it. KTC - I think it is awesome your husband is so supportive. Can we friend you on FB? WTB - now that is a classic example of RFP. BTW - did my first open water swim of the season today. Not great but hey, way better than last year. Have a great week everyone. KC

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jen - nice job on the race. Sounds chilly! Tim - i have yet to find a pair of goggles that dont eventually leak, however i think my Tyr ones have lasted the longest so far. I did my last long run before race day on friday. It was quite possibly among my top worst runs ever! I had a nutrition plan in place, and had planted fluids on the course beforehand. In theory it was all set to be successful! It was hotter than i am used to, and being the frail English rose that i am ;-) was sweating like a beast within 5 mins and struggling to keep my HR down. I started on tge nutr plan and things seemed to be going well until around mile 11 ish. At that point i discovered 'chomps' and I are NOT buddies and started puking. It seems while i was doing this, i turned off my garmin too. The rest of the run was ROUGH! I called my hubby to tell him i had an empty tank and he came out to find me (armed with a slice of thick pizza for fuel!). He fed me and sent me on my not so merry way. I finished eventually and my garmin said i had done 18 miles. Seemed impossible given that this was the same route as last week but id added some on to the beginning. I used map my run and then clocked it when i drove it to pick up my water bottles - 21 miles!! Also, when i stopped, i discovered that something had either bitten or stung my face and i had crispy blood all down my face, neck and shirt. Omg i cant even imagine what people must have thought seeing me 'running' by. LOL Hopefully race day cant be any worse than training! |
