So the excruciating hour of Pilates wasn't enough - swim squad tonight!

FINS
6X100M (100M free, 100m Back, 100m Breast)

4x100M (100m Left Arm right by side, 100m Right Arm left by side) (I hate this drill)

NO FINS
8X200M
200M - pull and band
200M - free

1x200m - pull buoy - breathe every 6
100m - kick
100m - cooldown

Now that's a cool 3km - and I did a 200m warm up before...woohoo!  Highlight of the night though was a hello kiss and hug from Coach Johnny - swoon!

Jo = hard core!  Highlight of the night sounds like it should've been quite inspiring!

TJ - the hike sounds like so much fun, and the comment from your son is pretty funny!

Erica - congrats to you and your daughter on the track workout.  Hopefully this will continue to be some mom-daughter time.

My own little news update:  Tuesday I swam and FINALLY broke 2 min/100M!!!  Granted it was pretty much an all-out effort, but I did it!  1:55 and my previous best was 2:01!  And it was even at the end of my workout.  Super stoked and still in some degree of disbelief.  I will give credit where credit is due: I have been reading Sheila T's Swim Secrets book and trying to implement some of the things she talks about and I do think this is what got me to my new milestone.  Now if only that number could become my regular pace and not my hard pace I'd be over the moon!  I also need to work on swimming straight.  I think I pull more outward with my left arm and less so with my right, which sends me right especially in races or OWS when I don't have lane lines to keep me in order.

Editing to add: it sure felt good, really good, to swim that fast!

Awesome job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am GREEN with envy! I have Sheila's book and started to read it.  I guess it is something I really need to focus on as I build toward Oceanside.  Undecided

POD: look closely at what is on this towel... I used it ALL DAY on the boat while drinking beer and flinging beautiful beads of sweat off my brow...  I've had this towel for YEARS... I think it was fate that put me in the MAD MANATEE group!!!!

Hope you guys all had a fantastic day!!!

Very, very cool hike and awesome pics! I am a bit jealous! The weather here is FINALLY warming. As of late there has still been quite a bit of snow pack up high so hiking is a little out of the question.

Love the pics and the comment about the zones, TJ, very interesting!  Looks like it was beautiful.  I learned about how different zones can be with regard to both flora and fauna when I went to Ecuador, fascinating stuff!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

That number WILL become your regular pace. You're putting the work in.

In terms of your left arm, imagine pulling it straight back (though with the high elbow) close to your body.

Oh touche, although, it was very mild for me. I was mainly lying on the beach and watched it all unfold.

ebshot - 2012-07-05 6:30 AM Morning!  I'm hitting the track today with my kids.  Should be...interesting.  My daughter is just starting to run so I think this is a good way to get her and I running "together" while not really running together.

Oooh, I've modified a workout on the track called "cat and mouse" where the weaker runner takes off and you race to catch them. It's motivating for both the cat and the mouse and makes for some nice interval work. You can also adjust according to ability by changing how long you wait before you take off (as the cat) if that makes any sense.

EX: For 400m repeats, I have my friend take off. I wait until she gets 150m in and then I take off and then it's somewhat of a race to the finish.

So, Manatees, I've seen some of you mention Fink's Be Iron Fit plan.  I'm thinking of getting the book and would like to get a) your thoughts on the book in general and b) opinions on whether it would be a good e-book or if I should get a "real" copy.

(Maybe Sheila and Don can get me through Oceanside?)

ETA: I just noticed he focuses on IM distance.  Does he even have a HIM plan?

What I like about the book is it has three types of IM plans - Just to Finish, Intermediate and Competitive.  In there he includes a HIM race as part of training (about 10 weeks out from IM) so being that I have a HIM in 20 weeks I just worked back from there 20 weeks and jumped in.

I chose Intermdiate as the hours look like what I can handle - I have it on a spreadsheet and side by side I do a comparison of the BT Beginner HIM plan - so for week 20 (first week) i noticed that BT plan had 15mins more bike but 50min less Run.  i would prefer that the other way around so I've kind of adapted it this week to suit me.

The BT Beginner HIM plan is awesome - it will certainly get you through - only thing I would say is increase the bike a bit as I felt a bit light on that (especially being my weakest thing)

Good to know thanx! I was kinda thinking I would start the BT plan once I have my next OLY "under my belt". I don't think the timing works out perfectly but maybe a week or two of recovery would be good.

I'm a huge fan of E books, but in this case I'd recommend the "real" copy.  I highlighted, and dog eared and bookmarked the heck out of mine (still do).

Thoughts on the book: it's really worked for me.  I've used it for 2 IMs and am currently following it for my 3rd.  I'm a fan   I even don't mind the swimming (I'm sure you'll hear how some think it's mind blowing boring, but I don't mind it)

You go girl!!

Yeah, I second this. Most of my books I read on Kindle but there are some that I just NEED to be able to note/highlight the crap out of.

Oh yes with the swimming I just ignored it!  I will continue with squad three times a week at 1.5hours a time about 3km per squad!  Can't go wrong i figure!

Well, good news AND bad news today...

Bad: my quads are still somewhat angry and sore...

Good: My bike is all snazzy and fixed up (i.e. ready to be ridden at a breakneck pace---yet still as comfy as can be), and ready to be picked up!\

Bad: I don't have enough money to pick it up until tomorrow!

Blah. It seems like a good night to sit in the living room and play "Plants vs. Zombies" on the computer. For those who don't know, this is an absolutely fun and terribly addicting computer game in which your house is being attacked by zombies (in this game they're not even gory, but kinda cute!), you retaliate and kill them (hopefully) by "planting" an army of attacking plants--from "pea shooters" to "corn cob catapults" Way to much fun, and an easy way to pass time when you want to escape from the world! Smile

Erica--cool running with your daughter.  I love it when parents 'think outside the box' to get everything in (workouts, family time).

Melanie--AWESOME!  Keep pushing yourself, it will become your 'regular' time in 'no' time

TJ--looks like a fantastic hike!

Kirk--hope your shift wasn't all bad...

Kate--  Sorry your quads are still sore.  Glad you got your bike back; I dropped mine off this evening for a tune up, but I should be getting mine back on Tuesday.  I did go to a different LBS though, cause I did have to wait about 10 days last time at my 'regular' shop.

I worked at my 'other' job today (vet clinic).  I love getting out of my office and get my hands dirty once in awhile!  Kitties and doggies and bunnies oh my!  Rode my bike to work, too, as the weather was gorgeous.  2 more rides in for the challenge!

I thought that's what BT was for I'm terrible, though, I'll play stuff like Kitty Cannon. (Don't look this up; highly offensive)

Happy your speed machine is coming back, and your quads should be fine by then!
