Caleb had his first official day of football practice yesterday. I was standing up on a hill above the field watching the end of practice. He came off the field, after doing sprints for 30 minutes looking like he was going to cry. He told me he wasn't cut out for football. He said lots of other kids said they were going to puke. I told him to hang in there, it would get easier. After he got home and had a shower I asked him if he was going back to practice on Tuesday, he said yes. Everyone I have talked to said the first week is the worst, and he will only be there 3 days this week, he's going to Lake Ontario to go fishing with my dad Thursday and Friday. I really hope he sticks with it, but more importantly I hope he likes it.

Good Morning Ghoulies!

I did manage a quick workout last night.  I feel it this morning in my shoulders.  I didn't realize that I was doing that much upper body work.  I did some new stretches on the foam roller  possibly that was it.

I finally got my long SLOW run in. I need to get some miles going here if I am going to finish the MCM.  This weekends canning event was tomatoes. 14 quarts done. (The pickled okra is done, Jules. I am hoping it is as good as it looks. FWIW, unless you are in the dry part of the valley you are in, Okra won't do well. It likes it hot, hot, hot).

Off to shower, laundry and get ready for the music up at Chimney Rock Park this evening. I am excited, tomorrow is my bike fitting.

Have fun Ghoulies.

How did the bike fitting go?  Do you notice a difference?

I agree with Jules on your bargaining skills!  Amazing!

I love to climb rock walls, but have never done any real rock climbing.  I keep thinking that if I put my fingers on a bug or spider then I will be jerking back so fast that I will fall. LOL

Good afternoon Ghoulies!

Jules - it's just a small shallow creek. Good for playing in just for fun, not good at all for floating down.

A week and a half ago I called the store I bought our first 2 kayaks at and asked if they could get a Mist 9.5 and a Marvel 10. The guy told me he had a Marvel 10 there, and he'd track down a Mist for me and get it shipped to the store. I told him I'd be down today to pick them up.

Caleb rode along with me, it was a 1:20 of driving. The store wasn't open yet when we got there so we walked over to a Starbucks to get a bottle of water, we were both thirsty. It was connected to a B&N which was open, so we browsed a few minutes and Caleb picked out 2 books that we bought.

We went over then to the Outfitters to get the kayaks. We walked around for a few minutes looking at everything then I asked the cashier about the kayaks, they were supposed to be put aside for me, they weren't. She got a guy to come help us and he told me he had good news and bad news. Good news - he had both kayaks. Bad news - the Marvel didn't have a seat with it. The seat is removable, and somewhere it got lost. He told me he'd take $50 off the price if I still wanted it. I told him I couldn't replace the seat for $50. There was a Perception Prodigy 10.0 there, and it was less than the Marvel. He told me if I went with the Prodigy he'd knock a few dollars off for my trouble. I told him if he knocked $50 off I'd buy a pair of rock climbing shoes, too. He took the $50 off. I picked up a few small things, along with the climbing shoes, I also got a chalk bag and some chalk. I still walked out of there with all of that spending less than what I had originally planned. The Prodigy is comfortable to sit in in the yard. I'm going to take it out and put it in some water tomorrow.

durn girl will you come shop with me the next time I buy a car!?? good bargaining skills! you go girl!!! and so where do you climb? and do you do it much??? I thought I would love to do that...but just recently I realized I have a fear of heights!?! I love to fly down a hill on a bike but put me on the side of mtn with a drop and I get all panicky!?! is this a sign of getting old...or did I just not notice it from before!????

Our Saturday this weekend was a bit tramatic.  Our son came back home from a quick trip.  Pulled into the driveway, parked his car.  Got out and then went to get stuff out of his trunk.  He sees the four dogs next door head his way and before he knows it he got bit on the thigh.  The dog broke skin right through his pants. The neighbor did come over to apologize as we were trying to get our son off to Urgent Care.  He had to call into work to let them know he was not coming in.  I read the neighbor the riot act.  I like dogs and love animals in general, but you don't let four big dogs run around loose.  Our neighborhood has lots of little kids running around all the time, and all I could think of was my 3 & 4 year old grandkids playing outside just a week ago.  I did call animal control to report the bite.  The dog is supposed to be in quarintine at a vet's right now for the next 10 days.  Meanwhile, my son is taking antibiotics and keeping the bite clean.

Did not make for a good Saturday.

Hope your son heals up fast!  And that something is done about your neighbor and his dogs!

Um... thanks, Dee, I hadn't thought of that until now.

It's really nothing to worry about, if your bouldering, and not using a rope you could fall a couple of feet. If you're climbing, and someone is on belay, it SHOULDN'T be a problem, the rope would catch you.

Morning Ghoulies!

Had to take Mom in to the Doc this am for a follow up. (All is well). My appt is this afternoon at 4:00. That is too late in the day for me, but the only time I could get.

Kendra: Sorry about your son! Hope it heals fast. I am with Ann, let us know if we need to visit. Those poor dogs!

Jules: Sounds like your festival was great fun. Hope the bike ride was as well.

Hi Dee, Welcome back to the routine!

Melindy: Start of the 4th year!!! YEEEEE HAAA!!!

Ann, How was all the kayaking? That is too cool about the rock climbing lessons! I hope Caleb enjoys football. It is tough when you start and sounds like that is a heck of a work out for him!

My bike fitting went well. It is going to make a lot of difference. Now I just need to get on the road and try it all out. It won't be today, though with the doctor-work-doctor-town meeting schedule!

Have fun all!

We could go for a bike ride after we visit Kendra's neighbor.

In all honestly I don't like the new Perception Prodigy kayak. I called the manager of the store I bought it at yesterday and let him know. I wanted the Marvel because of the back support. After 20 minutes in the Prodigy I was in a lot of pain. Donnie had to help me get out of the kayak. I have 3 others I can use, so I don't have to be in that one, but I paid for it, I think using it should be an option. He is trying to track down a seat for the Marvel. I guess they don't have any other Marvel's at the other store, or he didn't think of that.

Have you ever seen a puddle duck boat?  Also called a PDracer?  A home built skiff-like boat made from plywood.  Usually sailed, can also be paddled or rigged with a trolling motor.  It sounds like a hoot to make one.  I am tempted.

All I did last night was to lay on it with the roller going the length of my back (my roller is about a yard).  Then let my arms and shoulders  relax toward the floor at different positions.  I think the stretches above my head is what I am feeling in my traps and pecs.  While laying there I also did some abdominal tightening for core and low back.

I've never heard of a puddle duck boat, but now I'm going to look it up. I would love to make something myself. I've looked at the DIY kayak kits and such. Maybe someday.

kns57 - 2012-08-13 4:36 PM Oh, and the way my neighbor treats the dogs is dispicable.  He yells, curses, and acts as if he kicks and hits them.  I am not surprised that they act the way they do.  People like that should not have animals.  I'm hoping that things will change now that animal control is involved but I am not holding my breath.

My baseball bat and I would like to have a chat with your neighbor.

Hope your son heals up quickly.

I agree with Jules on your bargaining skills!  Amazing!

I love to climb rock walls, but have never done any real rock climbing.  I keep thinking that if I put my fingers on a bug or spider then I will be jerking back so fast that I will fall. LOL

I am sooooo with you on that Dee ~ hate spiders and not a big fan of snakes and sure they are in some of those crevices too! ~ now its heights, spiders, snakes...) and the list keeps growing haha

So they will take the Prodigy back?  That's good.

Have you ever seen a puddle duck boat?  Also called a PDracer?  A home built skiff-like boat made from plywood.  Usually sailed, can also be paddled or rigged with a trolling motor.  It sounds like a hoot to make one.  I am tempted.

I've never heard of a puddle duck boat, but now I'm going to look it up. I would love to make something myself. I've looked at the DIY kayak kits and such. Maybe someday.

now Im looking it up! haha

so you are doing a tri in sorts ~ doc/work/town ~ hope you get to go ride soon~ cant wait to hear how it helped~ I need to do the same...my husband did such a great job on my bike...I used have issues with my neck and my lower back....he tweaked a few things and I get off from really long rides and am amazed the difference it makes....just yesterday he adjusted my drops because I complained I never use them....now I do but because I was so used to the old way they were set up I am constantly bumping my hands when I go to reach for the breaks...must make mental note when i am descending down some of the steep hills/mtns at a rapid speed!
