I am yet to encountered training related fatigue - even though there's plenty of it induced by stress/work/family related nonsense.

even deep in to training if you dont allow rest days/week then you are going to bust. this week is 8.0 hours with Tempe Tri at the end... much different from the 13 - 16 hour build up over the last 4 weeks. My legs are tired but still move... the big thing is to keep you mind in the game! You are on the down slope of an amazing journey if this is your first one... and if you have done more than one.... Suck it up and finish strong!!!

Today is going to be an additional rest day for me. Not by choice though. Caught whatever bug my 1yr old had last week. I woke up Sunday morning all congested. Headed to the gym for 2hrs on the treadmill. Only made it one hour.....30min run/30min walk. Mentally I was there, but my body was just not having it. Yesterday was my normal rest day. Felt tired and "foggy" from the sinus congestion. Even had a sinus headache most of the day. Went to the Broncos game last night. Felt okay by the time we headed to the game. After halftime sinus pressure/headache as back. Got home before 11:00 and straight to bed. Up at 7:15 this morning. Still feel like crap. So I skipped my 1hr run this morning. Hoping I feel better this afternoon so I can at least get a swim in.
I know the "unwritten rule" is that it's okay to train if your "sickness" is above the neck and no fever. Both of which apply to me. BUT, maybe it's best if I just take the whole day. Then wake up tomorrow and crush my 90min brick workout. I know rest is best, but I'm still stressing a little about skipping/cutting short my workouts

If so, did you feel less rested? Did you feel more in the game with a two week tapper?

If injury free, anything more than a 2 week taper is too much. Purely my opinion

If all goes as planned I think Ill go with two weeks this time. Last time I felt lethargic and too anxious.

I'm going with 3wks. I know my body. So I'm pretty confident 2wks will suit me just fine

I missed a whole week so far. Previous Sunday I quit on a long ride, got to about 53 miles. My body just shut down. Very rare for me to quit. Come Monday my allergies kicked in and by Tuesday I had a cold. I fought it but it wouldn't shake.
Just now, today, I am going to hit the gym again. yesterday I was about 80%, I'm now feeling 99% earlier this morning I was about 95%.

Two years ago I decided to train while sick, no fever, and it set me back a month with 2 weeks to go. Huge mistake for me. So this time I took the risk of just focusing on getting healthy and not work out.

This past week has been a mental struggle but I'm trying to keep perspective. Id rather take a week than a month. Too paranoid at this point.

I also noticed that many other TRI athletes caught something this past week too. So maybe we are all a little over worked and easily susceptible to catching something.

Good luck and rest up!

You how much fitness you lose after not training for 1 week? None. Don't train if you're sick.

Big training weekend out on the Ironman AZ course this weekend. There are many groups putting together rides and other events throughout the weekend. There should be a good number of riders out on Beeline. Add to that a fair weather forecast, and it should make for an awesome weekend in Tempe to train!

Well I swam last night for the first time since June. Had sugoery at the beginning on July, took my 10 days off like the said, then thepoll went down for maintenance July 23, and kept getting told it would reopen in two weeks. Now the new update is they will open in Dec.

So I joined a new gym.

I'm not too worried though, Im a good, but slow swimmer.

I'll be out there with everyone. We're doing a 6 hour ride starting in Fountain Hills and we'll be riding portions of the IMAZ course (Beeline). Thank God for the cooler weather!

I need to get out on the Beeline. I would tomorrow, but I am riding a supported century ride near my house on the west side. Hopefully, the weather will be nice next weekend too.

101 on the bike today then a 6.2 mile run off. Bike felt pretty weak. It was windy as a storm was blowing in today. It finally rained on us with about 30 minutes left to ride. I don't think I recovered enough from Rev3 Branson half last week end. The run felt pretty good though, I love to run in the rain, and I was happy with it. Legs feel trashed and I have officially entered a recovery week. Looking forward to laying on the couch and watching a little football tomorrow!
IMAZ....BRING IT!!!!!
It's going to be an epic day.

Yep I think this was a big bike weekend for all of us. I had planned 80+ tomorrow but I am coming down with something. After my run Thursday I fell asleep for hours, Masters yesterday and my 7 mile run today turned into 4 miles with some walking. My HR and respiration was high from the beginning. My body is telling me to rest but missing riding this weekend is making me crazy! Did I mention my longest ride so far is only 83 and that was in July. My planned 112 last weekend became 56 after an injury on the bike. Just getting worried.

if you feel comfortable enough with your tri experience, I say rest up and skip the ride. Make sure you stay 100%

I took last week off with a cold. Today i got back on the bike and hit an 85 miler. Feeling good too!

IMAZ Vets, typically how strong is the wind on the bike course and how much did it affect you?

I feel very comfortable with my bike but whenever someone breaks wind I feel like Im pulling a 50lb weight. So I am feeling a bit concerned.

Any advice or previous experience would be appreciated!

4.5 hours on the computrainer yesterday due to storms followed by 2 mi easy transition run in the rain;  then a 10 miler today with the first 2 miles easy and the remainder at 7:00-7:10 min/mi pace.  Starting to feel stronger following the recovery from IM M-T in August

Did a 6-hour ride yesterday, most of it on the Beeline from McDowell to Bush Highway. Wind was blowing pretty good starting around 8:30am. It was into us when we were heading towards McDowell then switched and was dead into us when we made a u-turn. At this point the ride got very difficult and made the climb back to Shea tough. I'd say it was blowing about 10 MPH with gusts around 15-20MPH.

16-mile run this morning and my legs were feeling the effects of yesterdays ride at around mile 12. Was able to stay in my HR zone the entire run at a good pace. Good confidence builder and can feel my fitness improving.

Blackorcutt - it's fairly windy on the Beeline and wind direction changes throughout the day. You'll have a loop on raceday where the wind's in your face heading out to Shea then another where it's at your back. Others here can provide more specific feedback

Managed 3 hours on the trainer after feeling crummy yesterday, glad I got it in.

Not even ready to talk taper yet, still focused on getting all my training in.

It is getting tough, especially for 1st timers like me and my wife! I never would have guessed my weekends would, or even could, consist of swimming 3,000m Friday night, riding 101 miles Saturday, and running 14 miles Sunday! We may be slow, but we sure are consistent and persistent! What happened to the couch potato I was four years ago!! Our coach, Frank Sole, advised us we are building until SOMA HIM with just a few days of taper (he tells us to consider SOMA a long training day ) then a brief period of building until we start a 2-2.5 week taper. So far, I hope the people who told us the hardest part is sticking with the training are correct!! We are cautiously awaiting race day!!

Short build to Soma then everything is downhill from there. I think Soma will be my peak weak of my plan at just over 20 hours for that week if i get all my workouts in including the race. Not sure if that will happen because i have some goals for that race also but we will see. I am looking at a recovery week right after followed up with my taper. Body feels strong and ready to go... i question my original goals set forth at the beginning but will push through and see what i can do come race day.

I will be running a loop of the new run course tomorrow morning if anyone wants to join.

Planned on a 100 mile ride here in Houston Yesterday. Only got in 82, had to dodge storms all the way. Total ride time was 4:45, but took over 6 hours with sitting in underpasses and at gas stations wating on dounpours to pass - and then a dead on head wind last 15 miles back to my car (hate it when wind changes directions and ruins my plans). But I beat that last storm back to my car, take that b***h! It is pretty awesome to see it coming down in sheets and racing it to the end! (note - only awsome because I beat it - otherwise it would have sucked)

I am hurting a little from this past weekend, we did about 80 miles on Saturday on the bike in about 5 hours, climbing over 6000 feet and it was in the upper 90's...i think i need to learn to ride on a belly that is fuller with liquid. I was a really dehydrated at the end of that ride. yesterday we did a light 1 hr spin and then 2 hr run, i got 15.5 miles in, but a again i was a bit dehydrated at the end.

my issue on the bike is after about 3 hours, i cannot hardly stomach perform anymore and my body only craves water. i don't know if that is a sign of me already being dehydrated or not. I know the bike is my weak point and will dictate my day...

Have you tried to incorporate solid foods with the Perform? I used to get the same bloated sensation when I only used Infinit on the bike. Now I alternate between Infinit, Powerbars, and Fig Newtons. I find the solid food really helps my stomach stay "normal."

I do perform with supplemented "food" every 40 mins (first is a gel, next 40 is a lara bar, repeat) but i am still feeling like that after about 3-4 hours i am still blowing up a bit. I ride using heart rate and keep it to about 140 bpm on flats. i am starting to think i am getting dehydrated cause i am a sweater. The perform is fine until i start to feel bad (3-4 hour mark) and then just the thought of anything but water kills me. once done, i can easily drink 40 oz. of water....i guess i need to up hydration and not worry about the sloshy feeling...

I would try and eat more solid food. Also, make sure you're drinking at least 20-24oz of water per hour. The Perform doesn't solve all your hydration needs

I have four bottles on my bike.  Two with just water and two with Gatorade / Powerade / Water with NUUN tablet in it. I go back and forth between water and other stuff all the time.  Need to keep a balance otherwise I feel to loaded up with sugar or over hydrated with water.

I've been mixing between gu and cliff bars.  2-3 gus per hour with a Cliff mixed in every 90 minutes or so.  Seems to be working well for me.

Now to figure out a good way to execute the perfect Code Yellow......
