I have not been taking care of my first ever bike and that needs to change soon.
DQ - 1) Two workouts in each sport, 2) PT x5 3) Record every bleeping calorie on MFP 4) Lose two pounds (224 is the goal)
Gretchen It is the first week of classes, so I'm not sure of my time this week. It always seems that nothing goes smoothly during the first week! So, I'm setting my goals a little lower than last week. 1.) track food every day 2.) yoga 3x 3.) 3 runs, 2 swims, 2 bikes
Kyle Diving on Saturday so that is one day out of the week....and the wife is traveling for work....so just me and the kiddo....still not back to work yet so that does kind of help. 1) 2 pounds weight loss 2) 3 swim, 3 bike, 3 run 3) track food all week
6 unspecified workouts - crazy schedule so I'm leaving this a little loose this week PT 4 times - clearly 5 had discouraged me so I need to kick this.

Doug - Goals for week starting 1/18:

1) drop 2#

2) swim 10k yards

3) run 3x

4) bike 3x (35 min. sessions)

I didn't manage to lose a single pound this week. I was at my target weight by Thursday, but going out for margaritas and birthday cake undid all progress. Then I compounded that failure by not going for my last run yesterday. Sigh...CLP for me...

The week rounded out well - 3 runs, 2 swims, 2 bikes and a lifting session in there. PT was sporadic again - don't know what my deal is with this. I am trying to do it from memory (can't find my printouts - will call the PT and have him email them to me).
I'm going to see if we have a Schlitz in the fridge - that should work for both CLP's I've suffered for my poor PT performance.

Big push on the house project this week - lots of painting coming in a hurry starting mid-week. I also start teaching class tomorrow. For this week I will say I'd like to get 6 workouts in. With my crazy schedule I will be very happy with that. I would LOVE to be in the pool everyday but that won't happen until I don't have to babysit workmen at my house....so close to being done I can almost smell the new carpet..

Nice work on the week Jenn! I've made it my goal to do PT 5x this week. Wanna go head to head. I'll bet you a four pack of Jack's Abby for a 4 of HT. You only pay up if you don't reach your goal. Are you in? Come on - I want some Heady!

Pretty stoked! My new tap screen IM watch came in the mail today. Ya all would have been proud of me - I forced myself to do a PT session before talking it out of the box. I got so excited - I went out for a run and fricking crushed it... 2:40 minutes per mile faster than saturday's slog. Boom!

Had a Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier with dinner at Legal's tonight. With a CLP outstanding I may not have earned it, but I did enjoy it.

I had the day to end all days today. I had a crazy busy day at work (bike courier), came home, got on the trainer and did three 20minute sweet spot intervals (1.5 hours), had a small dinner, a 13 minute nap, and then had to teach a spin class at 8:30pm for an hour. I am fried right now. I ordered a pizza (running a 3000 calorie deficit right now) and might have a beer in bed. I have 14 pickups waiting for me at 8am tomorrow morning across the border in Quebec, I hope my legs will function.

On a more interesting note, my new cycling team is sponsered by a new craft brewery in Gatineau (Quebec side of Ottawa basically) called Brasseurs de L'Outaouais. Our team is having a big event this coming Saturday where the team will be officially 'unveiled' but I can't be there because of my trip so I organized a private tour and sampling for the team this past Sunday. It was a lot of fun. Apparently at 29 I'm the oldest guy on the team so I've been nicknamed The Old Man. I really wanted a cool name but I was hoping for something more b@da$$. Ah well. Only a few guys could make it but it was nice to meet some of the other riders. (Im in the baseball T second from the left. The guy behind me is the brewmaster).

Very nice...those long trainer rides are brutal.  Tour of Sufferlandria is coming up and I'm dreading the longer ones (I think one last year was like 2 1/2 hours).

#4 = good idea.  :-)

Last week was pretty good; got most of my planned workouts in minus Thursday's unplanned off day.  I also went up and down the stairs about 5,000 times this week as we're almost done unpacking from the move.

Goals for the week (we have a snowstorm coming Fri/Sat that might derail some of the swim/gym plans, but we'll give it a go):

2-3 swims 3K meters total
4 trainer rides, maybe 4 hours total with 200-ish TSS
3 runs, maybe 6-8 miles total
continue strength and core work

Happy Tuesday!!!

Bought some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale over the weekend.  An oldie but a goodie; it's always been one of my fallback options since they have it everywhere.

Jenn--congrats on getting your student through!!

Alan--sponsored by a brewery? What could be more perfect?

Busy day yesterday, I forgot to post.

#28--run yesterday afternoon with the pup. It finally warmed up to 12F, so I thought it a good time to get outside!

#29--post run yoga

There should have been a swim in there too, but when I went to the pool yesterday there were at least 200 people in it. I wasn't going to try to fight that mass of humanity. Because of the holiday, hours were shortened to just two lunch time hours. All the regular swimmers were there, plus the football team jumping off the high platform dive as a team building exercise. Nope, no way, no how.

#30--this morning's trainer ride with high cadence intervals

Plan is either for a swim or a run later, depending on whether it decides to dump snow on us as predicted and whether or not the first day of classes goes smoothly.

19/24 - 30 min pool swim. Worked on breathing drills and just getting comfortable in the water. This is weird coming from a guy that is used to spending hours in the water...but I usually have something strapped to my back that I can breathe off of. I didn't realize how hard it would be to transition to swim breathing. Today I made it a whole length of the pool without breaking stride...

And I am refocusing my goals this week

1 is still lose 2 pounds
2 is now swim 5X this week and get 2 runs and 2 bikes in. I realized how much I need to focus on getting better at the swim.
3. still track all food.

So really just restructuring what I'm doing workout wise.

What's up BDAS! Sorry I've been absentee since last October. After my first tri season, the 'fall funk' is REALLY REAL. Have not been actually swimming laps since I got out of the pond my last tri last year, in August. My cycling wound down over the course of the fall from outdoor to indoor, then to nothing while I'm currently run focused. Unfortunately my strength training has done the same since October or so...

For the new (and old):
NAME: John G aka firebert (obscure homestar runner reference, which in and of itself is obscure so...)

STORY: Runner in high school, took at least a decade off of any exercise whatsoever, got into running again in my late 20s, had a long cycle of train/race/injury/take fall and winter off/repeat which went on through my 30s. Found triathlon after my wife (a swimmer) had done it for a couple years and convinced me all I needed to do was swim to get it done, and also convinced me the benefits of Tri - it's all cross training! :D Had another running setback in 2014 (stress fracture) that put me out half a year including ramping training back up. Finally got my first and second triathlons in last year at age 41! Both sprint, both the 1/4 mi swim variety - which even with a shorty wetsuit on, was every last bit I could handle without stopping. I am a TERRIBLE swimmer!

FAMILY STATUS: Married 8 years, with one awesome almost 6yo daughter

CURRENT TRAINING: Completely and totally run focused at the moment. Run 3x/week and that's been it since December. My long run is Saturday and 'coach' (the wife) has me resting Monday and Tuesday from any kind of cardio or anything using my calves. Maintenance runs are Tue/Thur and I'm looking for things to do M/W/F.

2015 RACES: Since I was Sprint distance focused last year, my run regimen was 5k focused and so was able to seriously PR three 5ks last year, last one in October. Also had the two Sprint Tris as mentioned, June and August

The Plan for 2016: NO MORE INJURIES! But seriously, I'll be doing the Enchanted 10k (Disney World) late Feb, my FIRST Half Marathon March 20th (with Dave Q), then it's up in the air. The wife is having a major surgery in March hopefully which will give me more training time early in the season, but then July-ish she'll be ramping up miles in a big way for B2B (IMNC 70.3) which is in October.

BEER/WINE/BOOZE PREFERENCE: Beer first - IPA, Stout, Sour. I have a new found appreciation for sours and can't find many people into them or many places to buy them, but it hasn't stopped me from trying. Booze - scotch closely followed by bourbon. Wine - sure. Don't ask me a style or vineyard though, alls I know is red and white.

WEIGHT LOSS: Yup, although modest, it needs to happen again like last year. was down to 167 lbs (I'm 5'10") last racing season, and as of Christmas Eve I was up to 180. I haven't checked since but Christmas week was rough. Dave Q reminded me that 10lbs could easily mean 6 minutes off that HM in March so the motivation is high. Plus I get injured less the less weight I am carrying, my body just isn't built to carry it.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD BDAS MEMBER: Got a little experience under my belt, a whole lot of running experience (and injury prevention experience!), a year of BDAS experience, I LOVE beer, I'm a homebrewer, and I'm a great cheerleader.
