Hi Everyone!!

I left yesterday morning to go to Tallahassee, Florida to watch a friend do a marathon this morning. I woke up today and decided to do a half marathon while my friend Tam did her first marathon. She brought home Womens Overall at at 3:03:?? Not too shabby being its her first marathon outside of her Ironman career.

I did a'ight. I forgot my running shoes here at home and ended up running to the mall and picking up another pair of Brooks. So aside of running in brand new shoes and being very cold and what seeemed to be an uphill false climb for the first half of the race, I think I did rather well for it being my first real anything of 2008. I might run another half mary in two weeks with Dave. He's still hm'ing and ha'ing about doing it. I wanted to do this mornings race just in case he decided not do the one in two weeks. BUT enough about my day and thoughts. I seem to ramble on when I'm tired I guess. I don't seem to ramble too often. (quiet Bob)

I saw something a few entries ago about Bob being blessed on having a nice muscle? Can I get a pic or a sketch??

DUDE!!  that's awesome, both you and your friend...cool. And way to buy brooks

Did someone mention nutrition? I am all for nutrition during my races.  I'm out there for so long I figure I may as well have my dinner too.

Nutrition...does good nutrition include root beer floats? I just had two of them...with lite ice cream and diet root beer.

Love em....and I have to support Wells Blue Bunny..I live in the Ice Cream Capital of the world.

Working from home today...as Trixie would say..I'm trying to get my MOJO back. However...I need it both in my exercise and work!

It's almost lunch time...I'm thinking about having a strength session over lunch.

Hello everyone, after recovering from a 12 hour bug of death, I was able to get in a 2 hr ride on the trainer.  I popped in Spinervals "Tough Love" that is a 3 hours session, but the 2 year old nap only lasted 2 hrs.  Therefore, wife ended the spin session and then told me not to do the HIM if I have to be on a bike for that long (thanks for the motivation...).  Ignoring that comment from the peanut gallery, I really enjoyed the variety of interval training it provided.  I am not a huge fan of small chain ring- 21 COG standing speed drill (it is non-intuitively hard), but overall it was great.

Anyway, I ramble.  I plan to do a nice swim session today...outdoors.  Yes, it is great to not live up north in the winter.

Thanks for the nutrition advice..

Depending on the weather I usually eat more than this, a whole lot more.   The weather was really crappy and cold and simply miserable.   I have been done Ultras for quite a while now and  I do rely of the aid stations a whole lot for replenishment.  In there I pick on absolutly everything they have...   Specially coke and the orange slices...

During my first Ironman,  i used the ironman cocktail and it worked as a clock.  I intend to use the same formula in IMcDA..

Anyhow...  I am need to get to work now..   I will squeeze a swim this afternoon to flush the lactic acid out of my sytem and then start tomorrow all over again.

next Ultra...  Feb 16  (another 50K)   and this time I promise I will eat a lot more..

cheers

Hi Everyone!!

I left yesterday morning to go to Tallahassee, Florida

I did a'ight. I forgot my running shoes here at home and ended up running to the mall and picking up another pair of Brooks.

Two things..

a) Tallahassee is cool, I lived there for a few years attending Florida State university (Go seminoles). Great city, but the marathon has those little hills that are killers.

b) I also ran my 50K with brand new shoes.. I purchased them and i wanted to break them in for the first lap which i thought was 10K.... But it turns out that the freaking race was ONE lap a 50K lap. These races are usually several laps, but not this one.  So needless to say i ran this 50K undernourished, cold, in the rain, and in brand new shoes. I know I need a spanking.... (trixie)..

I can't for the life of me figure out what your avatar is.  It is really interesting.  Are you like superman, changing from street clothes to tri clothes?

The little boy on the left  (yeah, over there <------) did a nice 8.11 mile run early this morning.  First part wasn't fun but cleared head and finished strong.

Ding Ding Ding... you got it right. Two years ago I got featured in the Houston Chronicle just before my first Ironman. They did a piece on me because I just came out of brain surgery to remove a horrible tumor and I was doing an Ironman.... This was the picture they put on the paper... At that time I was a Post-doctoral fellow in Rice University, so in the picture I am shedding the lab coat to go for a run... It gook like 10 takes to take this one right...

Ok.  I have an ACTUAL training question, for once.

How soon after I start back swimming is it a good idea to do my first swim LT test?

I don't think I want to do it on my first trip back to the pool, but I want to do it fairly soon to get a baseline for where I am at fitness-wise.

And, then how often should I repeat the LT test?

You should do it 5 mins after jumping in your first time and do it everytime you go to the pool....or not  sorry, I'll let someone who knows about swimming answer....BAAAB??  BAAAAAB STAAAAACKS??

That would be funny if I didn't already know that EVERY swim for you is an LT swim.

Too cool...especially the survivor part.  My uncle had a similar experience with brain cancer, but he decided to sit on his couch and get fat instead.  His post surgery formula certainly hasnt helped him unlike you.
