He will be heading into surgery to remove it in just a few minutes! I am worried sick and need as many of you possible to send those good healthy vibes and prayers his way! yes, this is the brother who recently lost his wife. Thank goodness for his AWESOME kids who have been amazing thru all these past events and even more so now!!!...even though they live 4 hours away - as soon as Mike was hospitalized, and they found out....they both hopped in thier cars and drove to be with him! My sister is flying there tonight and my mom and dad are flying there tomorrow....thanks....not sure if I will be around too much in the next few days....IT IS TOOO FAR AND TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME! and I am really upset that I can not be there, but he knows I am there with him in spirit and love! thanks you guys! I have only skipped one day of working out this month...and look to be about on track for the challenge! I promise I will not let you down! have a good one and go get em TEAM~~ you should be in the 40% about now...if you are not, time to get out and make that percent rise! Sending you, your brother, and family all my best. Positive thoughts for good news and a quick recovery. Take care Good to hear the surgery went ok. Sending positive thoughts for a quick recovery and peace of mind for you and yours. Edited by roni_runnw 2008-05-14 4:55 PM |

Champion 7546 Santa Cruz, California | Subject: RE: May "President's Cup" challenge - US West Team thanks everyone. I just got off the phone with my brother. He sounds really weak, but that is to be expected. He will be in the hospital for another week and on a liquid diet for the next few days. He has a tube down his throat and that could also be why it is really hard to understand him. He had a room full of people visiting him....so he was also a bit distracted....which is very understandable. My sister will be calling me later with details on what the doc said. Looks like it was something called diverticulitis!? will wikipedia it and see if I find anything!?! I will keep you all posted.... I did run a short run this morning. I plan on swimming tomorrow and Friday (I am hoping 2000m each day), and a bike ride on Sat/Sun... what about you - have you been on the google spreadsheet lately? are you close to that 50% mark on biking, swimming and running? if not, get busy...and if you have....GOOD FOR YOU! YOU ROCK!!! GO TEAM!!!!!!!!! LET'S ALL ROCK!!! |

When your intestines have diverticulosis which are out pouches in your intestines, food can get caught in them, they can become infected causing Diverticulitis which is the inflammation of diverticuli; in your brothers case sounds like he had an abscess. When antibiotics don't clear it up surgery becomes necessary specially when your intestine becomes blocked. They have to remove the bad area and use a colostomy bag to help rest the intestines and in most cases can be removed. (I am an a ICU nurse.) I hope I explained it well. Glad he is recovering smoothly. |

THANKS EVERYONE....things look good from Mike...I am sure he is not happy that he can not be active...and he is probably REALLY sore, but I am celebrating that he does not have to go thru any cancer related treatments! in fact I am sipping on a nice cab wine....so CHEERS ALL! and thanks again! |

Expert 1202 Montana | Subject: RE: May "President's Cup" challenge - US West Team Mornin' team! My week is shaping up pretty well. I'm at 53% of my totals for the month. So far this week I've taken my longest run ever (9 miles) and my longest bike ride ever (25 miles). We are supposed to get some really HOT days this weekend, so I should be able to get into the pond for a couple wetsuit swims before our race next weekend. |

Extreme Veteran 416 Mercer Island, WA | Subject: RE: May "President's Cup" challenge - US West Team Good job, everyone. I unfortunately am plodding along slowly but surely. I will be around 30-35% at the end of the week...Two things happened...I WAY overestimated my ability to run 100 miles and bike 175, and two, missing nearly a week with my grandmother's passing really screwed things up for me...I promise you all that I am working to do as much as I can to get as high as I can! SORRY!!!!!! |

Master 1356 | Subject: RE: May "President's Cup" challenge - US West Team I biked to preschool today in honor of bike-to-work day... and forgot I had to pick up a car seat in addition to my daughter. So I biked home hauling two kids in the trailer and a carseat poking up and the back as a great wind foil. Does that count for a strength workout? |
