Hi team

Finished my 1st oly of the year today in about 3:06  went to hard on the bike and paid for it on the run. Learned some good lessons for Vineman so I'm happy :)  Will post a RR when offical results are up.

Now its time for a nap :)

Congrats Joe!

Boy, you're a data guy...I like the PowerTap stats.  The bike is gonna be my BIG temptation this weekend.  I definitely don't have as many bike miles in that I had planned on, and I know if I don't hold back there will be consequences!

Awesome swim and bike!  Way to tough out that run...

Thanks  I think if would have slowed the bike by about 1 mph I could've taken 10 - 12 minutes off the run.

Good luck with your HIM this weekend!

velveeta - 2008-06-08 1:53 PM Hey team! We have such a fabulous and supportive group I know we'll start to pull ahead soon. I did last minute 1/2 mary this morning, and it was a good wakeup call re: prepping for my HIM. The race was pretty slow for me, but my goal was to race well rather than to race fast today. I did a long(ish) bike ride yesterday, and I think my legs weren't 100% (and I had some stomach issues too). Anyway, I realized I have a lot of distance to cover before August 10, when I will have to run the 1/2 mary after doing anything else, but, if nothing else, it was a great training run today! Off to ice my foot... Keep up the good work, everyone!

Great plan Tracy! I did a half mary about a month ago for that very reason...except my HIM is THIS WEEKEND! Yikes!

Good luck on your race -- looking forward to hearing about it as I signed up for my 1st HIM in Sept.

Great job everybody!

I had a very uninspired OWS this afternoon, but tried to force myself to work hard.  My quads were really hating being in the wetsuit which has never happened before, so I must be all pumped up from my run this morning ;D

I did nothing this morning...it's taper week...

O.K....intro:

My name is Sal, 43.  I have a wonderful wife and 3 kids.  Oldest just graduated from HS, daughter 13 and son 11.  I work for a major food company in Minneapolis developing new food products.

Ran high school track, but wasn't very good.  Never broke a 6 minute mile.

Started training for a tri during my sophomore year of college.  Took a college beginner's swim class, and got up to swimming a 1000 yards.  Started dating my soon-to-be future wife, and dropped any semblence of training.  Did a few events for Corporate Cup when we lived in Michigan (25 yd swim, 5K, mile) and studied martial arts for about 3 years (Jeet Kune Do concepts, escrima), but other than that, didn't do much training.

About 5 years ago, after we moved to Minnesota, a friend of mine who was part of a running group kept pestering encouraging me to run with them.   They said we'd only be doing 3 miles...we did 5.  They never told me about the 10 mile runs on the weekends.  Soon they convinced me to run a marathon.

The running group ventured into tris, and I did my first tri a few years later.  My swim was horrendous.  I swam out about 200 yards then had to switch to sidestroke and backstroke.  A lifeguard asked if I was doing o.k at the halfway point.  I wasn't and told him so.  He waved me over, and I hung out on the rescue float and talked with the guard for a few minutes.  Backstroked and side stroked back to shore and finished up.  I think I average over 4 min/100 yds in that tri.

Since then, I've consistently spent at least 2 days a week in the pool, built my own tri bike and have run a few half marathons and marathons.  It's been a long road, and I'll be doing my 1st half Ironman this Saturday...

A full Ironman is quite a ways out.  I realized that I really didn't get solid training in for my HIM due to family time and activities, but my family time will always take priority.  Shooting for IM Florida in 2015 (when my youngest son graduates).  These challenges are great.  They keep me motivated to keep my training volume up...

We've got a great team...

Well Beth can no longer call me a tease. Both albums are up - Oregon is only 4 pictures, Joshua has 13 (one double I don't know how to delete).

I should get some work done I guess!

Great Pics Bill! I can still call you a tease though..............;

After I posted them all, I actually was more fond of Joshua Tree for some reason. It is amazing how stuff can grow in such a dry area. Bend, OR is outright beutiful, but Joshua Tree was mesmerizing (sp?) in a sense.

Glad I could finally find a couple of minutes to post some of the pictures. The one good thing about my job is that I find time to see cool places on someone elses dime!

Have a great evening everyone.

Back in the H2O tomorrow!

that is a really cool thing!

Okay... heading home... may try to at least walk around the neighborhood... then I've got to go drop off my food co-op order (yep, first time I participate in this thing a little nervous about what kind of veggies I'm gonna get).... then while hubby and boys eat spaghetti for dinner I think I'll be sticking to plain noodles....blah...

Let's see how it goes..... If you're feeling better soon and want to stay in the challenge, yes, we can revise your goals. If you need to drop out though, we all understand -- Do what you need to do in order to get healthy again.

Did you eat any tomatoes lately? Could that be what's causing this?

I hope that you'll be OK by your Tri this weekend.

yeah, I'm going to need to adjust my goals - I'm at 84% of the bike, not cool

I'll give it some thought and update in the next day or so - it's just difficult to predict with the crazy commute and new job thing

Hey everyone! Got a short bike ride in this morning. Sorta short. 7 miles. I wanted to do 12, but I just wasn't up for it. The bike and I are on speaking terms this month, but we're just not buddies. I swear someone told me I would be one with my bike by now (Heather, maybe? ) I'm still coughing up stuff, and feel like I need to use my inhaler more often, but it doesn't help. If this isn't gone by this weekend I'm heading to the doctor Monday. I'm not feeling bad per se, but not right, either, KWIM?

Beth-don't feel too bad about the swim--I haven't been in the water since May 31st, either. Maybe in the next couple days, The weather here's supposed to be cold and rainy, so I may have an excuse to avoid the bike for a couple days...

Hey CCL!  (It's too early in the challenge for this prudey midwesterner to call you Lovers )

The month is already 30% complete!  I've been looking forward to June for 6 months and it's flying by.

We have 4 teammates that are over 30% right now:  Gary, Beth, Cheri and Steph.  Great job guys!!!

Andria and Scott are just under 30% -- keep it up!

I know we have some sickies (get better soon) so we all need to work a little harder to get our team % up.

Go CCL!!!

I am slacking on the other stuff I know and appologize but it has been a crazy 2 weeks. Have a day off tomorrow so I can do some of the other stuff besides riding. Will post that stuff the day of. I will update the spreadsheet when I wake up but I need some sleep becuase 30 hours on 4 hours of sleep sucks...
