Pro 4089 Without house | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Hi folks-non-participant, but returning finish line catcher here. I posted part of this in the WI forum and was asked by 1TT to share it here. This is part of an email from Rita, finish line catcher captain wonder, and I thought you all may find it of interest, particularly the second tidbit. I don't know if it's been discussed previously in this tread, as I didn't read all 19 pages , so forgive me if it's already been discussed. 1) the finish line tape will only be used for the first few finishers. No more people tripping over it, carrying it off with them, etc. 2) only finishers are allowed in the chute. They cannot have their spouse, kids, friends or dogs accompany them the last few yards. Anyone not following this rule will be disqualified. While it's nice for them to share their glory with those supporting them, it's not safe to have all those people in the small finish line area, especially when they are coming in 3 at a time. (bolding mine) As a finish line catcher for the past 2 years, I can honestly say that the no extra people at the finish line is a rule I'm in favor of. I understand the desire to share the experience with those who gave up a lot during your training, but there are safety issues. There is only so much space in the finishing chute and it gets crowded very quickly. We do what we can, but we can only do so much. Rita and Ed do an AWESOME job running the finish line at IMWI. "Catch" you at IMWI09. I'm working the 5:30-9:30 shift, and will be cheering you all on on the bike course. |

I know it became an official rule this year, but it's good to see they are really enforcing it. I'm hoping to cross the line during your shift! |

I am looking for some fellow bikers to ride with that weekend. I will be traveling up alone so it would be nice to have someone else to ride with. Hit me back at [email protected] if you are interested in training together or if you don't mind me tagging along with a group already together. I am pretty flexible on pace. Maybe just one loop because my hours are down that week. I've also been dying to try to the course on my roadie. I'm feeling like that course is murder on me when on my tri bike. |

A really great starting place is the gas station/convenient store across from Gray's Tied House - the first left off of the intersection of Whalen Road and Old Hwy PB. They've been very nice, so I try to help bring some patrons to them, especially the cookies that they have! |

Master 1303 Mishicot, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm looking at my training schedule and curious as to when people are doing there last longest run. If I follow the running plan I was kind of using, I would be doing a 20 miler about three weeks before race day. What does everyone's last 4 weeks before IM look like when it comes to their longest run? |

If I follow the running plan I was kind of using, I would be doing a 20 miler about three weeks before race day. What does everyone's last 4 weeks before IM look like when it comes to their longest run? Mine will most likely be 3 weeks out, the week of August 16, and my longest run is going to be 20 miles. I don't have my schedule yet as I work with my coach on 2-week installments, but we talked about this last week and I think I'm only doing two 20-milers and I'm guessing it will be the weeks of the 10th and 16th, since I've only got 17 on the schedule I currently have now. I'm only doing a 2-week taper so my training will continue the week of the 24th, but I'd be surprised if I'll have anything big like a 20-mile run in there. But you never know! |

My biggest week in hours is the week before (the week that begins 5 weeks from race day), mostly due to it containing my longest ride. Edited by stainofmind 2009-07-29 8:47 AM |

Member 271 Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Ok, It looks like I am going to Wisconsin for the weekend. It is the only way to get rid of those bike course nightmares and get some sleep. For those of you nearby, or who know the city, I could use some help. Firstly, is there a YMCA or a Goodlife with a pool? does anyone actually swim the swim course there or is it too yucky? Where can I swim? Secondly, I am nursing a torn TFL, so I am limiting the running and trying to make up for it with elliptical. Is there a gym somewhere I can get in a good three hours on the elliptical....ok, I know there is no such thing as a GOOD three hours on the elliptical, but that's what I gotta do! Thirdly and the point of the trip, anyone want to meet up for a bike ride? Finally, Where do I get those snickerdoodles and does anyone want to join me for one (or three) after the ride? |

The actual swim course is indeed pretty nasty right now. Go out to the bike course and start and finish from Fireman's Park in Verona (which is just off the loop). Then swim at the beach that is right there. About Fireman's Park Beach: http://www.ci.verona.wi.us/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={7E305E34-6AD... Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=600+Bru... I'd like to join for the ride, but I'll be out of town racing. |

THIS weekend (Sat. Aug. 1, today)? If I would've known, I would have scheduled things a little different since I haven't popped in this thread for some time. The Wisconsin forum is always kicking with group rides and such. That's the place to look for info next time. |

Pro 4608 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread This thread is way too quiet with our race just 6 weeks away. How is everyone doing? July was a lighter month for me after a bigger push in June and two races in July. I didn't have any taper, but I had a light week after my HIM and a 4-day lighter block after an Oly so it hit my numbers. I'm feeling good but fell during a long run yesterday and banged myself up really good. I know, falling on a run - so sad. But I got up and ran 5 more miles all bloody and dirty HTFU in full effect! I've got some exciting training this month, starting with a long weekend in Vermont next week so I can ride some real hills again. |
