Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We will be driving down on Tuesday and staying through the following Tuesday. I reserved a 2 1/2 bedroom at Shores of Panama. Facility looks great and it is very close to the start. I decided to go a little more upscale. We are kinda making a family vacation out of the trip so I went with a nice place with a wrap around ocean view. The Shores of Panama seemed to have a ton of rooms available at all sorts of price points. VRBO was how I originally found my room. Sorry I don't have a spare place for you to crash but we will be full with family. |

New user 9 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Also at the Shores of Panama. Staying Wednesday to Wednesday. The workouts are getting longer and longer so hopefully everybody is staying hydrated and healthy. Looking forward to the long weekend and my first of 4 Century rides I have planned. Good luck to anyone that is racing. |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread No kidding those workouts are getting longer! Can't wait for the weather to cool off. Georgia summers are brutal. Well, at least they are brutal for this old Midwestern boy. I hate to admit it but last week I actually had my first "cop out" during a workout. I was planning an 80 mile bike ride which involved a 30 mile out and back followed by a 10 mile out and back. Made it to 60 miles and I just couldn't get myself back out on the loop for that last twenty. I wasn't really spent or anything it was just really hot and I wussed out. Felt really guilty about that for the next week. Today had a good 60 mile bike into a 6 mile run in the 94 degree heat. It actually went really well. I am starting to handle the heat better while running. I was able to get my pace down below a 9 min/mile average which is pretty fast for me. It's awesome that others are going to be hanging at "The Shores" for a week. I look forward to bumping into you guys. Mostly I look forward to buying the first round of celebration drinks on Sunday for you Ironmen! |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We're also staying at the Shores of Panama. Heading into town on Wednesday with my IM friends. The family will come in on Friday. I'm already flipping out about missing 3 days of training next weekend. We're taking our daughter across the county to college. 2 travel days and 1 move in day. I could try to squeeze some training in but I'm not going to. I'll just count it as a long rest weekend. Family comes first. We won't see her until Thanksgiving. We're also missing her first performance which just happens to be the same weekend as IMFL. Oh well.

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Sounds like Shores of Panama is going to be the BT hang out! I'm there too. This week has been a lighter week for me--but it's total prep for next week, cause WOW it's big. But I also got some great feedback/info from my coach that has me focused. 3 months from tomorrow! |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hope everyone has a great weekend! I've got a long ride/run/swim on the schedule for the weekend. We're volunteering at a local tri on Sunday. I love volunteering. Can't believe we're 13 weeks, 0 days, 13 hours and 49 minutes away from IMFL by the countdown clock on the computer!

Member 26 Panama City Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread The post before this is still accurate. They have just paved hwy 79 and made it 4 lane so it will be nice and less dangerous. Hwy 388 is still a disaster. They are still doing work on the new airport so a lot of dumtrcusk go don this road each day. Plan to lose all the water out of you water bottle. The course is usually windy. I had to fight 20 knot winds yesterday and it wiped me out. I did 100 miles of the course. |

New user 101 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hey folks...I've been a BT member for a few months now but have not posted until today. Lurking even longer. Another 2009 IMFL here. My first shot at an IM. I've been competing in Tri's for 5 years now but have not done anything longer than a sprint. Decided to just "jump on in" for the full thing this year. Strong cycling background so I am hoping that pulls me through. Other than that, training hard and hoping to see some of you guys down there. Thanks for all the info shared. It's been helpful and also encouraging. Not much else, just wanted to intorduce myself to some of the folks I'll be suffering along side in a few months! |

Member 34 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Since you were actually on the course can you tell me if there are any true hills or is it just rolling hills. i'm getting conflicting info on the course. Thanks. |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I did it in 07 and there are no hills...there are rolllers toward the back of the course and there's a bridge going out and coming back. I am from South Florida (read: FLAT!!!) and it was fine for me. |

Member 34 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Thanks for the info. I don't mind the hills just need to know how to train for this one. Sounds like alot of time on flat in the aero position. Sounds good to me. |

New user 71 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Anyone here who has done IMFL and another IM race ? I'm just curious as to the differences in your swim and bike splits between the ones that you've done. I see YouTube videos of the IMFL swim and I see a lot of walking in the water. I'm wondering if that makes your overall swim time a little bit slower or if the ocean boyancy and current/waves make you make you any faster/slower. Same with the bike. We know it's flat but the wind is sometimes an equalizer to the hills. Are your personal splits any different ? |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread This is a flat course!! Here is the elevation profile--now, it "looks" hilly until you look to the left and realize that the biggest elevation change we will see is going to maybe 100feet AT MOST....that's feet. That's nothing, that's probably an overpass or something. I drove most of the course last year, and I don't think there is anything other than that overpass that classifies as a hill. Sure, there are some inclines and declines, but the aren't huge and I doubt they'll require coming out of aero at all. Same with the run, super flat. If you train on hills, the strength you get from that will only help, but no need to search out hills for training here. I'm a super big fan of pushing the flats and that's a reason I picked IMFL. Some people dislike the constant peddaling (i.e. no coasting) that come from pushing the flats, but I'd much rather pedal constantly than do big climbs. |

Veteran 136 Panama City Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Wow! I caught your thread and was amazed by how well you all have kept up and motivated each other. You all are doing a great job and I wish you the best. I've volunteered to work the IMFL this year and possibly sign up for the 2010. I'm finishing this season w/ two more sprints in August & Sept and then getting ready for the Gulf Coast 70.3 in May. Many of you have mentioned the road ways. They are in the process of paving 388 now. This is the two lane stretch after going over the 79 bridge where they are putting in the new airport. At the rate they are going it should be finished by race time. I'm on it daily and they are moving fast. Again, good luck to you all and I wish you well in your IM journey and will be cheering you all on Nov 7th! |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread That is the bumpy section right? WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! That is the best news I've heard all day. Now if we could just do something about that wind we will be all set. I'll see if I can't put in a request for no wind on Nov. 7. I actually don't mind a few challenges thrown in there but if the TRI-Gods want to give us perfect conditions I won't fight them on it. Whoa just looked at the countdown clock......88 Days 17 hours and 10 minutes Edited by jjcnbg 2009-08-10 1:49 PM |

Member 60 Spanish Fort, Alabama | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi BTers, I thought I would jump in as well, I have been using BT since January (did Gulf Coast in May) and seem to be on track so far for my first full IM. Time commitment is getting harder! If I can make it to the end of my driveway (the hardest part for me) my training sessions are going ok. I don't seem to get too bored while running or riding, but the pool is a different story... My wife bought me the H2oAudio for ipod to help keep me from going completely mental. I have used it once and it was great! I'll let you know how it holds up. I live in PC Beach, so if anyone needs any local knowledge, I'll be glad to help. |

New user 101 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Trihard- I was struggling with fatigue and motivation a few weeks ago but for some reason hit a really good training patch over the last week. Which ended up with me doing 100 mile bike and a 30 minute transition run Friday, followed by a 2 hour run Saturday and a 1 hour tempo run yesterday(Sunday). I am a little tired today but nothing too bad. Just keep it up and remember it will all come together and pay off on 11/7. And on 11/8, sleeping in and relaxing for a few days will be a just reward!! |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I love hearing of smooth pavement..it's an element of a triathlon's dream. If it's not smooth, well, Texas chip seal will have trained me to survive, that is for sure! It is GREAT to see more and more IMFL'ers popping into this forum!! It's definitely nice to get some "on the ground" truth from y'all in PCB! Keep it coming!! If anyone is looking for a good, hot, long ride or run this next weekend--I have a guest bedroom here in Central Texas and will take training buddies.... |

Extreme Veteran 481 The Land of Mickey-Orlando | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I was determined to get my run in yesterday but I had work obligations that called me in extra early and I didn't get away from the office matters until 3pm. The only way I could think of to get at least a 10 mile run with it being a heat index of over 100 degrees outside was to do it on a small indoor track. 11 laps to do 1 mile. I did 111 laps!! Tell me Im not dizzy!! But at least I got 10 miles in -M |

Veteran 215 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Nice job! sometimes you got to get creative to get it done. My friend told me he would take his bike trainer to the soccer field to watch his daughter play and get a workout it. I applaud his lack of not caring what others think! My training has been going fine so far. It will be my first IM and I only did one half this june. I am mostly consumed with thoughts that I am not doing enough. I have a coach so I follow his plan to the T and never miss a workout. I still question only running 3 times a week. For example this week i have one track workout for about an hour, one 30 min transition run off the long saturday bike then a 2 hour long SLOW run sunday. Does this sound right?? I am not a strong runner....or biker.....or swimmer les |

Extreme Veteran 572 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Happy Tuesday y'all. Well it looks like I am going to have to go on a diet!! Darn it!!! Even with all of the training I am still putting on weight. I have now gained 7 pounds and I am feeling it on my knees. So here goes a last ditch 12 week calorie cutting. I know how to do it but I was really hoping the shear volume training would allow me to eat however I wanted. NOT SO MUCH! |
