Veteran 209 Wyoming | Subject: RE: lack of motivation happybunny - 2009-04-17 3:18 PM Thanks Sharie... I'm just having a mild case of the "holy crap what am I thinking" 's I was just thinking that this is the beauty of the mentoring group...supporting you makes me think through my own fears and in turn supports me and probably others here. I am glad you posted about your lack of motivation and fears! It also helps me to not feel so alone. Everyone else on the group is definitely farther along in racing experience and training than you and I are. What I finally decided today: I KNOW I can finish a sprint Tri! It may not be pretty...I may not be fast...I may even be last, but in the end, if nothing else, I will be satisfied that I have done one and fulfilled a dream! That is more than a lot of people can say...or ever do! Sharie |

Veteran 209 Wyoming | Subject: RE: More on bikes! Well I am glad to know that the bike search is fun and exciting and I am not just being a pain in the *** with all my questions! There are 2 TriCross bikes on Ebay that didn't sell - one is a 54 http://cgi.ebay.com/Used-2007-Specialized-Tricross-Sport-Triple-FSA... /> and one is a 56 - http://cgi.ebay.com/SPECIALIZED-TRICROSS-SPORT-BIKE-CARBON-FORK-54C... They are both in the same price range as the Ruby, although the components on the Ruby Comp are much higher than either of these...and I am somewhat concerned about it not being a WSD. If the Ruby was a 56, it would be a done deal....well...except that my dh thinks I need the TriCross with the bigger tires??? Take a look and let me know your thoughts |

Expert 764 | Subject: RE: training update ranchrunner - 2009-04-15 7:30 PM Well, the cattle work took longer than expected, so no looking at bikes today. Hopefully, we will go to Cheyenne tomorrow if the weather doesn't get too bad. There is a big storm brewing right now. I am SO ready to start riding!!! I went by my neighbor's house yesterday as she had said I could borrow her bike, but she only rides a 48 or 50...too small. Has anyone ridden or heard much about Jamis bikes? Two of the bike shops that I called have them as their major line. I called a new shop today and they are the MCs for the the Tri I am doing as well as being there to do tune-ups, etc. They also said they give lifetime tuning for free with every bike bought. Yanti, if I did the membership and got either the 13wk or 16wk program, would I just start a few weeks in so it fits my time frame correctly? Hi, I've been lurking a little, and life has not been great this week. But, I wanted to respond to this. I have a Jamis Coda. It's a "street performance" bike. I LOVE her! She's a really great ride, and when I can afford to buy a new road bike, it'll definately be a Jamis! |

I understand the xt is waterproof so you can use it in the pool but I have the old version so I only used it on the bike and run. Once you get passed the size and clunkyness of it you'll really like it. it's easy to use and you can download all the info (pace, distance, lap times, heartrate....) to your computer and see your progress. I'm still getting used to the 405, nicer look and size but if I would buy one today I'd probably go for the xt so I could use it for the swim. Art |

I've had the 405 for a year (got it for Mother's Day last year) and I do like it. If I was in the market now, though, I'd probably go for the new one you can use in the water. I got an inexpensive Ironman watch at Target that works in the water, but doesn't have the heart rate m onitor capability. The foot pod wasn't too helpful on the 405,but I love the cadence for the bike and the GPS is really cool. Downloading right into your BT plan is easy as well. Lynn |

That is more than a lot of people can say...or ever do! Sharie Sharie -- Glad to see you got your confidence back. I started doing tris last year and was soooo scared at my first one I thought I'd drown or be taken away in an ambulance (reallly), however, I'm writing this so I didn't drown and I didn't see any flashing lights for me or anyone else, thankfully. So, you WILL do this. That said, at times, I think what the he-- am I doing out here? I'm getting older and who do I think I am to be training for a HIM? But, then I see these amazing people who cross the finish line at an IM who are way older than me (I'm 48) and they are totally rocking. As for your clothing issue, I actually have some stuff (a tri top I used and maybe even some shorts) that I'd send your way as a pay it forward if you're interested. If you want to PM me or just post on here your sizes and then we can go from there. :-) I love the support and power of the mentor group. Lynn |

Lynn THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK. this way i have more to 'justify' the purchase to my dh whose thinking we could buy a lot of boat schwag for what we'll spend on 'just a watch'.... its hard to explain to him ALL the XT does [hes not a runner/cyclist/triathlete], and why though not absolutely necessary (what is necessary, really?) it would make my trng/racing life so much sweeter. i think the argument that worked the 'best' was the fact that i could spend less, and buy each component seperately (other more cheaper versions) but in the end, when you add it all up, id probably be spending at least what i would pay for the Garmin, if not more....and with the Garmin its all there in one. he seemed to go for that. NOT that i need his 'approval' to purchase the thing, mind you. its just we try to agree as much as possible on MAJOR purchases, and this being $400-500 is pretty major purchase in our household. im hoping.... what impressed me about 310XT is that its completely water resitant, has a lap counter, it keeps track of your data 'seperately' for all three disciplines, say across a brick/race....and it even has a function to track your T1&T2 times. i thought as far as trng/race data it doesnt get more TRISPECIFIC than that. and then it has all the usual 'bells and whistles' common to that 'level' of Garmin, downloading trng info, keeping track of your distance for bike/run, pace, mph, cadence et al. all i need to do is to get it to do is my LAUNDRY AND COOK DINNER. i told him it could be my mother day, birthday (june1) gift combined, cuz id like to have it before i did the MS150. seems reasonable to me. does he take the 'bait'??? we shall see.... Veteran 209 Wyoming | Subject: Garmin Sounds very convincing to me! Chiming in rather late on this, but I have a 305 and love it. Of course, I have only used it for running thus far and I am sure I have not even used it to its fullest capacity! For me, living where I do and running out here, the GPS is fantastic! I am planning on buying the bike "add-on", but was looking at Amazon and there are also some kits offered. Was going to ask here at BT if I need those or not...just haven't done it yet. If any of you know the answer, let me know! I think the 310 with swim capabilities would be awesome! Sharie |

Master 1420 Victoria, BC | Subject: advice on training plan Good morning Manatees! As we wait for Amy to cross that finish line, rush home, and post a race report immediately (hee hee) ... I thought I'd provide a little reading. Last night I wrote out my training plan for the next 15 weeks - leading up to my Oly. I'd appreciate some advice from the mentors on if it's do-able or not as it's been a while since I've had to do this ... It's pretty basic (and btw - I'm LOVING having a routine! I have done shift-work for the past 7 years, 2001-2008, and it's SO NICE to not have to factor in crazy work hours;-) ... Mondays: yoga at noon, spin w/ tri club in the evening Tuesdays: run/walk in the morning (I'll start with the tread at the gym as it's softer and easier for my feet, then in June move outdoors) .. and hit the pool in the late afternoon on the way home from work (I'm only working Tues/Thurs from about 11-3 these days) Wednesdays: same as Mondays Thursdays: same as Tuesdays Fridays: yoga at noon, optional swim if I feel like it Saturdays: Bike/Run brick Sundays: OFF I'm starting with reasonable distances, distances I can currently do (swim 20-30 min, bike 70-80 min, run 20-30 min) and working in 4 week intervals ... Week 4 (8, 12) is a recovery week so I drop down about 30-40%. Weeks 2+3 (6+7, and so on) build 10% each week. Week 5 is the same as week 3 (and so on) so I'm repeating a week after my recovery week before increasing the distance. The workouts at the beginning of the week are the longest ... middle of the week is medium ... and end of week is shorter ... as I find coming off the weekend I have SO much motivation to train, then it wanes as the week wears on. Thoughts? Input? Tweaking? I'd appreciate it mentors. ;-) I'm finding the triathlon club I joined is not for me, it's not a group I feel I fit in with and their experience and abilities far outweigh mine ... big waste of a lot of money that I do not have (as I'm barely working currently) and it's quite disappointing, in the past I'd gotten a lot from my tri club ... but I'm not comfortable asking them for feedback. Thankfully - I have you! |
