Veteran 561 Arden Hills, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread We decided to switch up our training plans and purchased an Endurance Nation plan. Any one have any experience with their plans? I really like the idea of more intensity on the bike versus simply putting in lots of "easy/moderate" hours. |

You folks think I will have problems on the course? Should I get a different cassette? You should be fine. You are running a compact crankset. You have essentially the same gearing as those of us running a standard crankset (53/39) with a 12/27 cassette. If you are a weak cyclist you may want to look at a new rear cassette or going to a triple. Not a weak cyclist here, but went with the 12/27 on a compact 50/34 crank last year and was happy I had it. I just swapped out my 12/25 for a 12/27 after riding a few hilly weekends, once on the IM loop. Now I can spin the hills in aero ... at a better, more efficient cadence. I'm one to attack the hills, then get dog-tired at the top; now I can continue riding with much more left over in the tank with the 12/27 - it almost forces me to be more efficient and strengthen my legs. I have a 50/34 crank. I've been told I could go through the course on a 12/25, but that it's a personal choice (based on strength of cycling and running after it). |

Two Saturday's ago it was 52 and dropped to 50 after 3 hours of riding, it was cloudy, foggy, misty, and slightly windy. Not a great day for a ride, but still very good for interesting scenery, wet hill climbing, dodging fallen branches, and overall character building. It should be fun with a group. |

Master 1376 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread If you are heading up for the ride tomorrow, bring warm clothes to ride in. Looks like there is supposed to be some rain\snow mix tonight. At 8am tomorrow it looks like it will be cloudy, but only 40. Might swap out my infinit for some hot chocolate. |

Master 1376 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Holy cow was that a tough ride today. We started out at 8am with a feel like temp of 27, with wind gusts up to 35 MPH and a mixture of rain and snow flurries. I have never been so cold in my life. The hills weren't too bad, but the wind and cold was unbelievable. I hope we don't have wind like that on race day or it will make for a tough ride. |

I opted for the trainer yesterday. Today looks good though so we're venturing out for a 2 hour ride later this morning. |

It took 45 minutes at least until after the ride was complete for feeling in 3 of my toes to come back! If it's like this on race day, more than the bike will be tough! |

I don't think I got feeling back in my toes or fingers until I got to Beloit on the drive back. I had the heat blasting and the seat warmers cranked in the car. |

Pro 4675 Wisconsin near the Twin Cities metro | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Sounds like some peeps are already starting to think about making some visits to the course for some pre-race recon. Many of you have probably already seen it, but back in 2008 Ron (owner of BT), scoobysdad and myself did some video work of the venue that may help with orientation for you folks that haven't seen it. Holy cow...the video has been viewed a total of 6,172 times since it was posted..and just 34 times in the past 7 days....I didn't think people even knew this was still in the video library. Enjoy. |

Extreme Veteran 476 WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread ** crickets chirping ** Is everyone tired from training? I am certainly needing my rest days. Did a 3 hr ride on the IM loop on Saturday with the new 12/27 cassette and it went very well. I also got shorter crank arms, by 2.5mm, which seemed to help a back issue. How is everyone's training going? |

How is everyone's training going? I will try to get in posting mode soon. Just coming off IMFL 70.3 this past Sunday so now it is time to focus on IMWI. Got a 6:33 in some insane conditions so I am pretty happy with the effort. It was a great race to figure out what I need to do over the next 4 months for IMWI. Happy training everyone. |

The good: we had a great ride this past saturday. Pushed hard for a little over 3 hours and then had a quick 30 minute run. The weather was perfect so it was a great training day. The bad: I've somehow managed to inflame my IT Band from biking. Doesn't bother me at all on the run. The 3 hour ride was fine on Saturday but I was supposed to do another 2 hours on Sunday but had to cut it short due to the pain. Thankfully this week is a recovery week so hopefully a little rest and lots of ice and foam rolling will do the trick... Edited by DB 2010-05-18 8:39 AM |

Regular 72 Central MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm with DB - great ride on Sunday - but with my last long run, I've rekindled an old calf injury. Hopefully only one week of no running. I'm a bit worried given the Apple duathlon in 10 days, and Liberty half IM on June 12th. Nice to see the weather changing and thanks to Birkie for the inspirational/instructional video. |

I ride a Specialized Team Toupe and it was comfortable until I got re-fitted into a more tri type position on my roadie. Now I am not so sure. I will give it one more long ride this weekend since the pain may have been from forgetting to put on the BodyGlide on last Saturdays 50 miler! I did talk to John Cobb tonight and he suggested the V-Flow Plus. Edited by Gregkl 2010-05-18 6:47 PM |
