Worked with a trainer today. He gave me a change up for the strength exercises. I was getting very bored with the ones in the program.

Still not sure what to do from mid April when this program ends and June 19th when I do the sprint.

Yeah Michelle, no homework.

Way to go Mav, you really are on the mend.

I did not make the challenge, for Feb. But I'm in for the IM for March.

No worries on the challenge...I think Mark was the only one who made it for March which is the reason he gets to do a double and the rest of us get a second chance

As for the down time, you can always do the last couple weeks of your plan again...just a suggestion

Michelle, i've been considering doing just that. I looked at the calendar and I have 9 weeks btw end of couch to sprint and the sprint. I was considering doing the basic sprint program only starting at 3 weeks into plan instead of beginning. I tend to get a little obsessive but it keeps me motivated.

I took a swim class today. I sucked wind the whole time. I really need to get into the pool more. Signed up to take 3 private swim lessons for some major help on my stroke. I also have decided not to run or bike before I get in the pool, I just use to much energy before.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Thats a great idea Terry. You are fit enough to jump in on any sprint program...even with your swimming

I would also suggest you try a Masters swimmimg program. It a cheaper alternative to a coach but you get coached and the motivation of swimming with others. Many groups have a $5 drop in fee. You might want to check it out. I have  a friend who could not even get from one end of the pool to the other and did Masters...she can swim a continuous mile now without a prob. Its also a great way to meet other triathletes.

Hey One Faller...when is the race????? How ya feeling

I'm feeling ...  well, better.  I'm back at the running.  I did a mile (outdoors) the other day, and will run again this afternoon, or tomorrow morning.

I'm angry with myself for not staying focused on my training... but January is always busy at the gym, and February it's back to normal, right?  I guess I'm not so different than everyone else, after all.

the race is the 27th.  1.4 run, 4 bike, 250yd swim.  I can do it.  I just can't miss any more days.

I am planning on a couple of tris in June, July, and August. However, to be quite blunt, my hubby and I are going through some trying times and while I whole heartedly plan on doing these races, my hubby may have other ideas. I just need to sit down and talk with him and to be honest i've been putting it off so we shall see

You can do it!!! ANd you can do more too. If you miss a day you cant beat yourself up and then justify missing more...just hop back on. If you post here daily ( like Michelle) you are more likely to complete a greater amount of training. Right Michelle???? We all disappear for a day or two...life happens. Soon training will be just as much a part of your routine as eating a meal ( we skip those from time to time). I always feel better aftyer I train. It is particularly true when I am stressed. I really try to squeeze it in because I handle life better.

I dont mean to be preachy...but I really think the regular training not only makes you heathly physically but mentally too.

I've been tired this week, so I pretty much did nothing the last 2 days. Hope tomorrow is better.

I'd be happy to share in the hogging of pages...HINT, HINT, HINT

I know i'll do at least one of the tris but I really want to do a few more since I didn't get to do any last year due to the timing of our move.

As for logging in each day being motivation to train, its true...normally! I am usually one who never misses a workout and is always involved in challenges, etc. However, like I said before, life is just really rough right now and while I normally use training as my sanity savor I am lacking some serious motivation right now With that said, I would have to agree with Marianne and say that I truly believe exercise/training to be one of the best mental medications one can take...as well as the health aspects of course

YAY Terry...glad you got out and rode...even better that you did a brick...it pays off on race day!!!!

This morning was Masters swim from 7-8...which with the time change meant from 6-7 on internal clock. This was tough, but got it done. I like the coach a lot and it was just myself and another woman. He gave a  lot of good pointers today. I know I will get faster if I swim Masters. I need the push to do intervals. I love long and slow...not so much on the speed work.

I am able to walk pretty well now. I did 1.5 miles yesterday and I am psyched at how good I feel. Hoping to be ready for my HIM in June

Hope everything works out Michelle. Are you on the coast? Any effects from the Tsunami?

Hello group!  After one last week of skiing, I'm back into training.  Today, I ran up and down some hills at a park near Charlottesville.  My legs are really sore, as I also walked around Georgetown on Friday with my daughter.  I'm getting really nervous about the run.

I didnt look in your logs but I would suggest you try a run /walk combination. 4 minutes running 1 minute walking fast. You should do this in your training over the next two weeks. For many people they actually have a faster overall pace with this type of run/walk combo than if they ran the entire way. DO not try to ramp up your run volume greater than 10%/week or you risk injury. You will be fine in 2 weeks I promise!!!

Glad you had a nice vacation.

Ok, that sounds better.  I'm scheduled to do a tune up tri in Mannassas, VA on the 27th.  It is a tri in reverse, a 1.3 mile run, 4 mile bike, then 350m pool swim.  I feel pretty confident about those distances.  Tomorrow, I will run on flat ground in a park near my house.

Talk to me peeps

How was everyone's weekend? Mark, how'd the doggies do? It seems like we spent the entire weekend in Home Depot or Lowes. We are working on a lot of house projects especially when the weather is so crappy (can you say cold and wet?!) and of course you never get everything you need the first time and you have to return or exchange the other stuff...Arg! Oh well, it will be soooo worth it in the end!

I talked to my hubby about racing and while he isn't thrilled with the idea he supports me. He is afraid I will become obsessed with it again so I had to ask him to remind me when he sees me going in that direction. It is so hard to find a happy medium with life and a "hobby" that you love so much and can take up so much of your time if you let it!!

Hi,

Good weeknd running the dogs at the Seattle Kennel Clubs big indoor show at Quest Field and Exhibition Hall.  Ginger is a 10 year old, female, Chocolate Lab.  She is the grand dam of the game.  She was perfect with 4 qualify runs, 4 1st place finishes in her group, 16inch preferred.  She is a hoot to run.

Strider is a 7year old Black Lab, Master's Champion 2x over.  He was perfect on Saturday, and 5o/5o percent on Sunday.  I applied just a bit too much pressure and he spun in front of the table. He's fast and steady.  Lots of fun to compete with.

Addi is the baby.  She is a 4year old choco female.  She is just starting on her masters title.  To earn her masters championship title (MACH) she needs 20 double Q's, where she qualifies in both of her runs, and she needs 700 time points.  A point is earned for each second under standard course time (SCT).  She is extremely fast and ultra exciting to run with.  She pushes me.

Now starting the official count down until the start of Tri Season.  Just 11weeks of quality training until the first tri of the season, the Issaquah Sprint. whoop whoop!!

Just completed my run at Darden Towe park.  It has alt change of only 384 ft.  I ran 2 miles in 26.39 minutes.  I felt better at the very end.  It seems to take me 1.5 miles just to get warmed up, which is a little strange.  Only after a mile can I start looking at what's around me.  Oh well, Tune Up Tri only 1.3 miles.  I will swim later tonight.  I did find a park here in the county where I can practice my open water swims once it warms up a little.

Did you try run/walk? Did it seem to help???? I wouldnt worry too much about your pace as much as how you feel. When you get off the bike you will be "warmed" up for the run...No worries
