michwea - 2011-01-07 10:01 AM Doing fairly well, all things considered.  Solid on staying active.  The nutrition part... well, I'm doing the best I can.

Question of the day:  do jalapenos and artichoke hearts on a pizza count as a serving of veggies?  Wink

Well......they ARE vegetables......is the quantity really a serving size?

I'm thinking the two combined might have been.  The pizza place gives this little plastic container that holds a quarter cup of jalapenos as a side.  I mowed through those.  Between the two slices of pizza, there was probably about a half dozen artichoke hearts.

I know, I'm grasping...

no. a half-cup of veggies is a half-cup of veggies.

If eat a half-cup of chili paste in a day here--and I can and I have--you betcha I'm counting it, especially since I'll probably have blown off half my face in the process

OK. OK. OK.  You're right Tongue out  I like that chili paste idea though...I loves me some hot and spicy!

Happy weekend everyone.  This challenge does have me working harder on my diet - I have lost 1.5 pounds since its inception.  It was three - but then there was that night at Buffalo Wild Wings....

My only run since the start was today.  Pretty darn cold - 4 degree windchill.  I ended up making a light workout out of it - 1 mile jog and then some speed work.  I did not speed at my 5K race pace - but the pace I wish it was!

hopefully next week will be better.

KOM - 2011-01-08 10:19 PM Hummus is a veggie?  really?! Wow my point count can go way up!!

I have removed 4.5 lbs since the beginning of the month.  I am sure some of that was water from all the holiday ham & salty goodies, but a lot is just better water intake and nutrition in order to get my points!!  Thanks to you all!

I always try to avoid losing weight- don't want anyone to think I am looking for it to return.

Have a great weekend all and Happy Training!!

there is hummus among us

great job on the poundage ... wait, do you mean you always try to avoid 'gaining' weight?
No, I just don't think of weight as "lost" since lost usually implies you would like it back....

I try to remove it.  Hopefully never to return!

I'll apologize for being quiet so far this challenge, but I'm not much of a forum troll (no offense to anyone who is fond of trolling). I thought I could at least give a weekly update.

First, I wanted to congratulate everyone for their hard work, numerous minutes, copious veggie eating, and great water drinking. Some people have reported some impressive weight loss so far, and congratulations are definitely in order.

For me, this challenge has been good, but filled with lots of pain. My knees hurt like hell from all of the running I've been doing (first marathon is in early March). Worse than that though, is the havoc I've brought upon my body from eating so many fruits and vegetables. I don't know if I'm the only one to go from 0-1 servings of fruits and veggies a day to 6-8, but that will cause some serious digestive stress if you make that kind of change. This week has been a bit miserable for me in some respects, but I won't go further into the more dirty details.

In the end I did manage to lose 5 pounds of holiday cheer that needed to go. This challenge has been a lot of fun for me so far. Good job to everyone, and I hope you are all able to keep up the good work.

I finally got off my lazy rear and did some actual training today...  A little snow shoveling, swimming, running, biking and crunches.  I'm tired.

I did ok on the water and fruits/veggies.  Nothing stellar, but better than I thought.  It's hard!!!

I really need to work on the lack of junk food next week...  good thing the Bills are done (like they haven't been done from week 1 but I won't go there) and I have no football food to tempt me tomorrow!

I went shopping today and finally found a business suit and even got another pair of dress pants for over 50% off.  Then got home walked the dog, 55 minutes on the trainer, and a Jillian Michaels DVD so I got a good workout in today.

I'm headed back to Clemson tomorrow, a day earlier than planned but I gotta beat this bad weather that's coming in sunday night/monday.  So I'm supposed to be leaving at 10 tomorrow morning.  Haven't started packing yet and it's 1.  Packing is just so boring to me and therefore I always put it off until I absolutely have to do it.  Supposed to be getting up at 8 hopefully getting some sort of workout in then packing up the car and driving back to Clemson.  I'm really ready to be back though.  I miss everybody so much.  I have my own little "family" there and it's going to be great to have everyone back together again.

Congratulations on the weight loss.  That is quite the accomplishment.  And good going on the running...I completely understand how upping the f&v can wreak havoc on you if you're not used to it, but it will get better.  Hang in there!

I got up early to swim.

I wound up swimming and running (helps, of course, to be accompanied by a piglet who over and over again keeps begging to know what he can do for me/the tri club, anything, articles, advertisements, promotion, hitting the road, organizing people/events ... after all, he's semi-retired, doesn't work, and just loooves triathlon and does that for a 'living') ...

I spent 1hr 43min putting together the rest of that &%$F#@!!! trainer and trying to get a bike on it ... and did actually wind up riding for 25 minutes, so ...

I think you can at least manage to get on your trainer, if not even ride it for a bit.

Morning all and congrats on the great week last week! Now we all have to do better this week!

Its raining here again, just for a change

I finally get to start training with my new muay thai trainer at my new gym tonight - quite nervous, I know everyone will be watching me to see what I'm like and I'm feeling a bit out of shape and haven't hit pads properly with a trainer for a couple of months now....
