van_paulus - 2011-03-14 5:04 PM Bagged the available time slot for my bike ride on saturday and watched tv instead . Well ... it was an Alfred Hitchcock movie i had never seen . Was more motivated (or perhaps less tired ) sunday , I joined our distance running group (usually about 30) who are tapering for LA marathon and were doing ten . Before the turnaround at mile 5 things were going rather well and i continued into a mountain park (mentryville) and ran a hilly 5 k course and then rejoined the ten route and headed back home . Was treated to shade ,steep canyon views , peace and quiet and many curious hares out for a morning nibble. I was privileged to be the first on the trail . I am prepping for a hilly trail half-marathon this month . the training run of great benefit for the upcoming hills and distance. Monday : Best workout after long runs or races : i swam .

Sounds like a beautiful run! I did some trail running a few years back - it's HARD!

Mountain run can be demanding (uphill) so its important to have no ego and walk up the steepest sections where necessary and save the legs for the rest of the trail. Benefits include : fresh air , softer ground , beautiful views ,stronger feet, ankles, hip flexors , no speeding cars or trucks , wildlife sightings like deer hares coyotes and plenty of tree and ground squirrels , friendly hikers or runners on the trail.
If run hard, helps develop high level or aerobic threshold, teaching the body to utilize available oxygen more efficiently. If run medium, serves as a gap between easy recovery run and anaerobic run...so helps maintain fitness as a solid aeorbic endurance run.
It is a weakness in some runners so it's great training for those hills in that next race you will be doing it.
Oh !! and it has a great view from the top.

I'll just be a complete post-hog and post a bunch of times in a row.  Tongue out

The good news: I WENT SWIMMING YESTERDAY! Good thing, considering I have a tri in 14 weeks!

I injured my left shoulder very badly last March, and basically lost use of my arm for 3 months - the recovery was long and painful and there were times I didn't think I'd ever regain "normal" use ... but I'm happy to report I did and I SWAM! There are definately lingering mobility issues, but only minor pain ... and NO aches or pains today, which is a very good sign! I also pull drastically to the right, but I'm hoping that'll stop once I build up the muscles in my left shoulder. Otherwise my OWS should be interesting.

I'm so pleased!

That's great about the swim!

Congrats Emma on the potential engagement. How exciting!

TR- yay for the swim. I really need to get back to the pool next week....sigh...

Paul - I'm assuming you are on holiday? I am quite jealous - enjoy and reeeeelax!

Melissa - so sorry about your feet - really hope the chiro sorts them out.

Rhoda - anyone seen Rhoda recently? Has she had the op....? I lose track of time so I may be right out of the loop....

I had a good training session last night and a good run this morning and am in a MUCH better head space for Saturdays fight now. Thank goodness! It really is a head game with me, I am fit and strong but I need to believe in myself more and give my opponents less credit!

One last hard session tonight and then the taper begins....and cheesecake on Friday post weigh in!

I am finding this true about most training and racing, we have to convince the body (and brain)  we are in charge and ready for action.

mbasta - 2011-03-15 6:03 PM Thanks for everyone's well wishes for the feet. I'm still limping about but the areas seem less stiff than this morning. I'm waiting for my husband to find out our health insurance number so that I can make an appointment with the chiropodist... Hopefully he gets it soon.

Hope you get some relief with your feet issues soon!

Cheesecake Good luck on your next fight! See if your library has a good sport psychology book and see if there's any useful information. I have one you could borrow if you want to swing by...

I've had a bit of a rough day... story below from my blog:

Our apartment was broken into last night!  Jaclyn and I left the living room at 11 to watch tv in my room.  About 11:30 we thought we heard Blair come back in.  We called her name but got no answer, we figured she was on the phone or didn't hear us so we thought nothing of it.  At 12:30 I went downstairs to leave to go to James's for the night and Blair was down there.  This morning I woke up to a text from Jaclyn asking if I had dropped a $20 bill.  Looked into my wallet and sure enough I was missing money.  That's not all i was missing though.  I had a $25 visa gift card and 3 reward cards from Victorias Secret and they were all gone.  I immediately started feeling a little creeped out.  I knew they were in there last night and I hadn't touched my purse at all once I got back to my apartment last night.  I left to go pick up the money at the apartment and texted Blair asking when she got back.  Her reply: she had just walked in when I saw her at 12:30.  At this point ice ran through my veins, she hadn't come back at 11:30 like we thought so who was that??  I texted our other roommate knowing ultimately she definitely hadnt come back and about 2 hours later she called me confirming this.  So at 11:30 last night someone was in our apartment went through my purse, stole the gift cards and left.  This doesnt seem like a break-in to rob us since whoever it was could have easily stolen my camera, nook, Blair's computer, our tv among other things that were all downstairs.  Been completely creeped out and stressed all day!  We filed a police report and our apartment complex is going to have our locks changed but honestly I'm so scared now.  How did they get in??  We're 90% sure both doors were locked which makes us wonder if someone has a key and how did they get it if they do?  We're all pretty worried about what this person's true intentions were as it doesn't seem robbery was the motive.  Hoping the locks are changed soon so I can get a little peace of mind back!

Very scary Emma!  Can you get some bells or other loud things to hang on the doorknobs and on the windows until the locks are changed?  Yikes!!!  I've seen things for apartments that make loud shrieking noises when doors are opened.  Check into it!

I've thought about that.  Personally I wanna go home and get my dog and bring her up here.  She's got the most intimidating bark, she's completely harmless but she's great at letting you know ppl are at the door and scaring them away (UPS delivery men, DPU ppl, someone trying to sell us alarm systems).  I know I'd feel a lot safer with her around!
