Lovey - 2012-01-18 8:06 AM I was in a rush to get to my treadmill before I changed my mind. I was a mile in, one leg felt odd, looked down and realized I had on 2 different foot of shoes. I had my current running shoe on the left and an old running shoe on the right. They weren't even close in color, black and white. I shortened my planned workout to 2 miles to prevent injury. I got 2 miles in. I may do another shot run tonight. Lovey

That is awesome! Thanks for sharing.

crimsont - 2012-01-18 4:22 PM Latest round of 20 minute Jorge plan testing completed.  Really hate those test days.  Improve my 20 min power from 260 to 270.  Not as much as I had hoped, but my legs were still feeling a bit fatigued from the accumulation of the entire plan.  Also trying to fit runs in to balance with the bike plan has been challenging.  Can't wait for the pool to open so I can switch to some different muscle groups.  Glad to hear about all the other good workouts and success stories.

Congrats on the improvement! I did his plan 2 winters ago, and it was tough

Good luck with your MRI. I'm sending positive thoughts to you and your shoulder

If it were me, I would sit out. I know it is miserable having to sit out but better safe than sorry.

Hopefully your MRI will come back normal and you will have a peace of mind when you workout. Good luck!

Wow! I love the different shoes! Hahaha! Good idea to shorten your workout to prevent injury.

Hopefully you can get a better workout tonight.

Last night I did a 45 minute swim.

Tonight I did a 30 minute run and a 15 minute bike. I had planned to do an hour run and a 30 minute bike ride. I ran on the treadmill at the hotel but I am still a little sore from this weekend so I cut it off at 30. I tried to do a 30 minute but the stationary bike at the hotel was subpar at best. At the end of 15 minutes my calves and feet were killing me. I decided to cut it off before I injured myself.

I am hoping that I can do an hour run and a 30 minute swim tomorrow. I'm going to my really gym tomorrow.

Its been snowing hard here all day.  So much that we got released early from work.  I picked up my kid and my plan was to spend some time at home before catching a 530 spin class.

I came home to find our 13 year old boxer lying the snow, having a seizure.  It was very obvious that he had been laying there a while.  Anyway, skipping the details and cutting a long story short, I got him to our vet, my husband showed, and after a couple hours of not being able to stop the seizures we decided to have him euthanized (sp).

To add injury to insult, while at the vets, I had been kneeling on the floor trying to help our dog, and when I put my hand on the floor to push myself to a standing position, I felt something move and pop in my thumb.  My vet asked me if I broke my thumb, and while I don't think it's that serious, its very swollen and hurts like hell.  Appears to be rather jammed.  Happened all the time when I was playing volleyball.

So needless to say, the spin class didn't happen, and I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to pull off tomorrow.  I'll probably back my gym bag and put it in my car, but it would not surprise me if the energy just isn't there.

Oh, so sorry for your loss It really hurts when you put your dog down, but you have to know that you did the right thing. And then the jammed thumb. I think I would have gone home, climbed into bed, and hoped for a better day tomorrow.

I'll be keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey... I'd take that! Always good to see hard work paying off! Are you using a power meter or virtual power?

I'm still around. I think I've mostly recovered from the episode of Strep. A gland on the left side of my neck is still swollen, but I'm hoping ti relaxes in the next few days. It's still painful to the touch.

Now that I'm feeling better, I'm tolerating the bike trainer better -- I was on it for 45 minutes the last two days. It's not sooo horrible. My logs are up to date if you all want to take a peak. Everyone should have access.

I'm still working on putting my training plan together. I'm using the 20 week 3x Olympic plan, even though I think I've decided not to do an olympic distance this year. I really need to get my swim stronger before I tackle 1500 meters. Anyway, I'm going to start with that plan, as a base, and then I'm going to tweak the runs -- add more than 3 (I plan on 6 per week) and up the distances of the runs, especially the long run, because I'm planning to do a couple half marathons this spring and fall.

Emails about races come in almost daily. It's so fun to think about each race and wonder if I should do it.

My little guy is clamoring for some breakfast, so I better get moving.

What is the Jorge?

Jorge Martinez is a coach who posts frequently on BT. He put together a couple of bike training programs for BT that are great for trainer work in the off-season. There's a beginner plan, as well as more advanced plans based on power or heart rate/RPE. You can see the plans here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/trainingplans-lis...

Tonight is the first night of the swim class that my husband and I signed up for! Truth be told, I'm a little nervous. I know that there is huge room for improvement in my swim, but I'm afraid to hear just how terrible I am.

I use my Computrainer to calculate my power for the tests -- great piece of equipment if anyone is considering a purchase.  I picked up mine used on ebay and it's been well worth the investment.

I've also been impressed with the Jorge plan if anyone is looking for something to follow for bike improvement.  When I started last October, I was at 215 20 minute power (about 2.45 w/kg).  My recent test puts me at 3.05 w/kg -- almost a 25% improvement in 2 1/2 months.  Once I complete the Jorge plan I will probably switch to sufferfest or erg videos to continue training until the weather gets nice enough to bike outside.

Guess what? The MRI came back normal! Yay! Now to come up with both a training plan and a way to deal with tendonitis. Now that I know what I'm dealing with, I'll feel better about pushing through the pain. (did I mention I feel like a total wuss, though?)

I am so sorry about your dog. We had to put our cat down about 2 months ago. It is a horrible feeling.

Hopefully your thumb is just jammed. Take night off and take an emotional break. Again, I am sorry for your loss

Hooray for a normal MRI!!! That is super good news!

Don't feel like a wuss. You are smart to get the MRI. You could have done serious damage if it was something serious.

Besides I get the title of wuss today. I have a little colt that my daughter gave my husband, who gave it to me and I feel like I am dying! I just shut down during colds.
