Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED HR training can be very frustrating because you are forcing your body to reinvent yourself to be more efficient.
I am talking from experience, if you look back at my training (non-Galloway), you will see that all of my runs were spent in the 160-170-180 ranges and I was spent. I just refused to drop back and train another way even though it had been recommended to me. I refused to run at such slow paces, my ego was getting in the way.
When Kelly offered to set up training plans in December (yeh, not much time left before Goofy) she told me we would do HR training, but I knew it could only help given the distance I was trying for. We have spend all of December HR training and I spend many a days running on the tready at 4 mph ... very slow, but my body is still fresh. I have found my Z1 HR drop from about 152 or so down to 146-147 in just 1 month. This has been huge for me and will also mean in the coming months I will be able to run faster, but more efficiently.
Training for Goofy is about having fun and getting me to the finish lines ... uninjured. Take the time now in your offseasons to reinvent yourself. 2012 is a time for transformation ... |

Mmmmm bacon. I am not a big sweet eater but for some reason that looks good to me... |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I think Kelly is saying most work will be done in the zone 142-153 (Z1). You should still be able to run in that zone, but it might be slow. Shorten your stride and slow it down. It only takes a couple of weeks to get the HR to come down so that you can up the speed. |

Extreme Veteran 610 San Francisco CA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED All this talk of heart rate training is making me curious to try it. I did LT tests for running with my coach when I was training for IMAZ so I know the protocol and how to set up the test but we mostly went off RPE and pace rather than heart rate for my actual training sessions. If you're like me and not using a specific plan right now, how do you decide which workouts to do in which zones? Do you start out doing them all in the aerobic zone? |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED I think Kelly is forcing me to stay in specific zones right now because she knows that I am not very good at RPE right now ... based on blowing up in a couple of my races. Without a watch with HR or pace I really can't tell if I am going out to fast in the beginning because I always feel good in the beginning. |

Thanks Carrie! I didn't realize you changed your strategy - where have I been? Thanks Karen, Jeff, and Kelly! Tomorrow I will try the new HR zones and see how that works. I'll report back! SOOO happy to be home from the in-laws!! |

Bike Pic - I ride a 2011 Cannondale Slice 3 Still cannot figure out how to post pics on here right click on the pic you want to post, see how big the file is, it needs to be less than 100kb open the pic with a picture format you can modify the size of a pic with, i use Microsoft paint or live pic viewer, go to the stretch/skew tab under tools, or pic resizer, save pic as something else, so you dont ruin the original, adjust size till the pic is only 100kb of memory, then you can post it here using the attach file bo you have at the bottom of the reply page. There is another way via training log albums, it allows you to use a bit of a bigger photo, but you have to create a BT album, save the pic there i think that is 200kb, then you need to link the pic to your post via the little tree icon thingy above the message box.

They heat them up and pour maple syrup on them before serving. I do not like donuts or bacon, but there are a huge seller. We are having homemade tomato soup and fresh brussel sprouts tonight. I ate really good today too. I need the holidays to be over! donuts & bacon......EEEEWWWW. Sorry, that just sounds gross to me. Homemade tomato soup and brussel sprouts sound heavenly. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Have a great New Year's Eve, friends. I'm off to visit my parents and 3 sisters today. We're staying through Sunday, and I won't be on the computer at all. I'll be running on Thursday and Friday, and I'll be taking Saturday and Sunday off (and I'll be drinking and eating and chilling). Then it's back to the grind next week. I've taken a couple weeks off from swimming, and I think it was much needed, because I'm actually starting to miss it. I may squeeze in a yoga session or two at my parents' as well. We'll see. I hope you have a great week! See you next month |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Renting Race Day Wheels in the way to go IMO. I rented from them for both Louisville & Wisconsin. Debating on whether or not to rent again for Vineman. It was easy with them being on site at both Louisville & Wisconsin. I'd have to have them shipped to me ahead of time, and then ship them back. Not sure if it's worth it this time or not. How much time do Zipps really save over 112 miles? |

That's way harder than it needs to be. If it's hosted online, right click and copy the URL, click the tree icon, paste the URL there, scroll down and click INSERT, and then done. |

Figure it's kinda like putting lipstick on a pig at this point though. Nothing wrong with putting lipstick on a pig! That's a nice friend. Would he let me borrow them for my race? We are driving across the country for Vineman... I'd actually be a little worried to borrow wheels. What if you crack them? With Race Day Wheels you can pay a small amount for insurance in case something happens. I highly recommend the insurance for those renting. |

Karen- there is a nice tri shop up in gainesville that rents wheels for $150 and that includes them installing them for you (Baxters Multisport on Limestone Pkwy). They will let you keep them for a week or so. I know that is a bit of a drive for you but the price is fair. |

10 MORE DAYS!!! Oh yeh, I am swimming with the regular team tonight. I am not sure if I am excited to swim with all my friends again, or stupid to think I can keep up with them all yet ... |
