Member 106 | Subject: RE: bigDH's accountability training -- closed -- good luck out there! Today was a complete lazy day. The pool turned out to be closed on Sunday's during the winter, so no swim. The nutrition has been better the last 2 days, but there are things I could work on... like not indulging on my mom's brownies when no one is looking. But overall the portions have been small and I have been eating lots of veggies. Plan this week: 2-3 swims, at least 1 at 2000 yards Tomorrow 1 round of golf |

Master 1623 | Subject: RE: bigDH's accountability training -- closed -- good luck out there! Woke up with a throbbing headache and sore throat and major congestion... pretty much been laying in bed reading all day. I'm feeling a little better but I'm waiting to make any training plans until I see how I feel tomorrow. I did however finish my 4th book in my quest to read 100 books this year and I've started the 5th one. If anyone has any good book suggestions let me know! |

Qua17 - 2012-01-14 10:58 AM NICE!Morning y'all: I just wanted to check in and share some good news. I hit the scale today and discovered that I had dropped below 240 for the first time in a year. If I can lose 2 more pounds this week - that will equal a 10% weight loss in 9 weeks. Sweet. Like Kevin, I've still got some weight to go and I'd like to ask in advance for some encouragement in a few weeks when my motivation goes down the toilet. On tap for this weekend - an hour and a half on the trainer (gonna stick to my goal of only watching Biggest Loser when I'm working out), a hour walk on Sunday, and a couple of cold ones (Sierra Nevada's new rye, which I can't wait to try!) to reward myself for a good week! Hope you all have a great weekend! DQ |

Looks like a good plan! 20 miles is certainly something you can get done. Good luck and have a great week! |

That, and it's FREEZING here today! Now I can bundle up in my cozy apartment, watch football, and eat hot delicious foods. I also have a 3 day weekend, so I'm thinking long swim and weights tomorrow with trainer later in the day. Katie - You're not kidding... I went for a walk and the wind chill was -10. My son was so concerned he kept texting me to see if I was still alive Hopefully it will warm up tomorrow. Nice job on the trail run and don't beat yourself up for walking up those hills. You'll get there soon enough. Until then - work out in a way that will make getting to the start line possible without having to suffer through injuries (I should take my own advice). Keep up the great work! As for football - who are you rooting for next week? |

And how can you say no to your mom - you don;t want to hurt her feelings : ) Your plan for the week looks impressive. Your distance in the pool blows me away and inspires me at the same time! And good luck with the bike - it can feel really good to go long. Finally - you and I are in the same boat with the walking... We'll get there together! Have a great week and enjoy the golf! |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: bigDH's accountability training -- closed -- good luck out there! Happy MLK day y'all: I hope you are enjoying a day off or maybe even an easy work day. I've made it through 10 weeks of exercise and I pretty psyched about how far I've come in that time. But I'm concerned because since high school I've never been about to sustain it. So, I've got to get it into my head that my fitness really don't have a finish line - it needs to be more of a life change. Question - how have y'all made that paradigm shift? Here's my plan for the week - go hard and then enjoy a nice rest week to wrap up the month: Monday - Rest Have a good week everybody! DQ |

David- Congratulations on the effort to date. That takes a lot of courage and strength to get going. I think your on the right track re-training your thinking and embracing it as a lifestyle. For me, It helped to set goals. I started running to train for a marathon. (previosly, I had run a 1/2 training for college wrestling 10yrs. prior). After my first marathon, I trained for another to PR my previous one. I wanted to go sub 3:30. Same for the next one. Then I got into triathlon to train for Ironman. For what it's worth, it's always helped me to have a goal to be pushing towards. You have a great plan for this week, keep it up! |

DQ Sign up for a couple of triathlons throughout the spring and summer. It will make you train! When I was losing weight, I signed up for a tri to keep me in the habit of training. I then signed up for more to continue my training! Last fall I signed up for a half marathon. Fear of failure keeps me training! |

Here's my plan for the week - go hard and then enjoy a nice rest week to wrap up the month: Monday - Rest Have a good week everybody! DQ Keep it up. For me, I have always had a pretty powerful ego so when I started working out and made the decision that I was going to I was fairly confident that I was awesome in all things that I did. That lasted about 10 months.... I could go on with various techniques that I used to keep myself going but in the end they were all temporary measures, i would make daily/weekly/monthly mileage/time goals. That was a big one. There was a lot of up and down. What finally worked was finding a schedule and sticking to it. After about 6 months of that there was no going back. It is -20 C today. I know at lunch I will be running. Not because I like it. Not because it makes me feel good. Not because I would feel guilty and horrible for the rest of the day if I don't do it. Not because it makes me feel like a badass mofo. I am not looking forward to my fingers freezing or losing feeling in my nose or running 30 percent slower than I normally do. But I will be running because that is what I do. It is no different than getting up in the middle of the night to get your 3 year old a glass of water. In some things you don't have a choice. You are right, it is a paradigm shift. It is about changing what is normal and expected. Making sure you don't miss your daily workout is no different than making sure you don't miss your daily television show or taco tuesday or wing wednesday. In this, you MUST fake it until you make it. |
