hayai_240 - 2011-09-29 4:18 PMSince you are using a fairing, you're going to be using internal nipples. Do you know the diameters of the spoke holes? It would be great to take advantage of the velocity veloplugs to not only save weight but be able to retension the spokes without removing/replacing rimtapes. They come in 2 sizes 8mm and 8.5mm.
I've never seen those before. They're pretty cool. I don't know the size of our spoke holes off the top of my head but they shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary so I'm guessing they would work. Our wheels will come with rim tape already installed, but you could swap it for the plugs if you like. Take care,

Is there a status on when the tires are coming out or the group buy? is there is any additional info that has changed from what has already been mentioned above? What would be the best set up for windy and flat courses, im riding a 2011 Trek SC 7.5?

We are currently in full scale production for the 2012 season. Our goal is to make the wheels available as early as possible. We do not have final dates yet. If you have been following the posts above and our blog you should be up to date. The fastest rear wheel is always a disc. The front wheel depends on a few factors. What are your average speeds in a race?

Jumping into this kinda late but definitely jumping on the Flo bandwagon. Have read every word and watched every video on the website/blog. I have a wheel choice question. I am a fairly small guy (5'10" and about 135lbs). I am curious if a 90 rear and 60 front would be the best choice for me or if a 90 in the front would be OK. I am not the fastest cyclist since I took 2 years off but I can do 17ish in a 20+ mile ride with obvious plans to improve as I ride more. Doing IMTX in May so that's what I'm looking for wheels for. Ideally I would like something that I could train on too so that's why I'm not considering a disc as much. Any thoughts? Also, chance that these wheels could be available during 1st quarter of 2012?

Let me address your questions below in bold...

LukeTX04 - 2011-11-11 2:02 PM Jumping into this kinda late but definitely jumping on the Flo bandwagon. Have read every word and watched every video on the website/blog.

Thank you for your support and interest in FLO Cycling.  We appreciate it.

I would lean towards recommending a front FLO 60 for you.  There a few reasons why...

  1. Even though our wheels handle very well in cross winds, the FLO 90 will be a bit more challenging to handle.  If you are going to use the wheel for training, a FLO 60 will be more versatile in all conditions.  Also, being only 135lbs, you will feel the gusts of wind much more than someone who weights more.
  2. The second reason is given your average speeds, you are "more likely" to see a slightly steeper yaw angle when racing.  It is of course impossible to know your yaw angles at all times but you can consider it a general rule of thumb.  Knowing that... our FLO 60 will be a little faster for you.

All that said, if you feel more comfortable with purchasing the front FLO 90 you will not be really loosing any aerodynamics and it will be a great wheel.  I just think for most people a 60/90 combo is the most ideal wheelset to purchase.  I've ridden that type of wheelset for 3 years and couldn't be happier.

Also, chance that these wheels could be available during 1st quarter of 2012?

We are pushing as hard as we can to get our wheels out ASAP.  We don't know specific dates yet but are shooting for an early 2012 season release.  1st quarter will be challenging to hit.  While there are certainly no promises, April/May would be a better estimate.

I hope all of that helps.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

All the best,

In case you hadn't gotten the word, there is a survey up regarding the pre-order:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XLLNDZR

I find it interesting that the 60's and 90's are running the same price, the only difference is between front and rear (due to the different hubs I'm sure)

That's probably because the difference in material is very small compared to the cost of labour and the moulds.

... I know it's often done with wheels, but I think that we would be really surprised to see a 52cm frame cost less than a 58cm frame!

Thanks for helping us spread the word!  Yes... the rear wheels are priced higher because of the hubs.

Group buys will be available for qualifying teams and clubs.  We are still finalizing details on this agreement.  As soon as they are available we will make them available on our site.

Hopefully that makes sense,

I'm curious - why does that make a difference on your side?

BT provides many things that 20th-century style clubs do not, and for many people does a better job at what traditional clubs aim to do. Folks just don't live in the same town.

I agree, what better way to get word of your product out than a dedicated group of like-minded athletes from all over the world.  It seems this would be the perfect group to be early adopters and message spreaders of a new wheel company, especially when you are spreading the word grassroots style.  We are the perfect pitchpeople for your wheels as opposed to a club in a few towns scattered about.  Seems rather short-sighted.

Not to be a downer here, and am in support of up and coming tri companies, but I'm surprised everyone's still very upbeat about Flo. I mean, the original 'ready to sell' post here was from January 2011. That's quite a long time to wait. Pretty impressive good will on this monster thread - nearly no negative posts despite the delays.

We have been have certainly had production issues.  We have made our progress (good and bad) very public on our blog, social media sites, webpage and internet forums.  Our delays were due to product quality and a factory that took our money and ran.  We made the decision to delay our product release because it wouldn't have been fair to sell our customers products with questionable quality.  It's simply would not be right to do that.  Our plan didn't work out perfectly (it's one of the catch 22's of releasing a company publicly)... but that's life... and thankfully we are much better today than we would have been back then.

I completely understand if you have lost your enthusiasm for FLO.  We can't expect everyone's flame to keep burning.  There have however, been a large group of supporters who have stuck by our side this entire time and made our company what it is today, and what it will become in the future.  We are very fortunate and thankful to have these people by our side.

All the best,

I will take your thoughts and suggestions into consideration.  I'm thinking there is something we could do to work out a group buy deal with this forum.  I'll have to review the idea internally and we'll get back to everyone.

IMO, honesty goes a long way.  FLO has been up front about their problems and has involved the community in the process.  People may be upset, but none of the potential customers feel duped.

I would very much appreciate this. I've been on the fence with waiting it out or buying something else sooner. I've followed your product developement from the start and the thought of a real disc instead of a disc cover has been very tempting at your price point. A discount would make it a certainty.
