Hey Nicole!  Good to hear from ya.  And we have a cold front here too.  It's down in the 30s at night this week, which causes everyone who's lived here longer than me to go into hibernation.  I still think of this as 'camping weather' :D

Hey Gretchen, yes. The sinus irrigation thing is definitely the grossest, weirdest, thing I think one ever done. It feels like your trying to drown yourself. But its Tuesday after a lake swim and I'm not fighting a sinus infection... so that's a win.

Yup, life gets in the way. I rearranged my training week to do a lunch run instead of a brick after work, then wasn't able to get my run in either. I'll agree if I take time off from running, the first run or two back feel awful, sickness or not.

@ John, for years I've been doing my own bike maintenance and occasionally some stuff for friends. It can be as rewarding as it is frustrating at times. The park tools videos are great. I'd consider wheel truing to be about the hardest thing you can do on a bike, it's almost as much an art as a science. I'm currently dealing with the dreaded stuck seat post. I've got one or 2 tricks up my sleeve, but I'm afraid I'm going to need to pull out the hacksaw.

Is that the old steel bike I'm assuming?  I know 'steel is real' and all but so is rust, and worse, any oxidation between steel and aluminum.  I wish you the best of luck!  And much WD40, hammering, heating and or chilling, and ultimately sawing.

Quick follow up on my crank clearance situation.  I spent hours last night researching the situation, which like all internet searches, opened up a black hole of information and opinion, leaving me without conclusion.  While doing all the research, I also emailed FSA directly.  I never think I'm going to get anywhere with anyone's customer service, they always seem to either never reply, or reply with some simple response that's completely useless.

I am happy to report that was not the case with FSA.  Brian in tech support got back to me in less than 12 hours, with a very informative and helpful response.  I now have a means to add 1mm or so to my clearance without the major surgery of getting a new bottom bracket (or just giving up and putting the old crank back in).  It's not huge, but I'm going to try it out and it may well be just enough to keep me rolling.  And happy that I'm not constantly cross-chained*.

Have to bail on my run today after work (school function), but hopefully will get to disassembling/reassembling the crank setup to get those shims in there when I get home.  Since I can't sub a run with a trainer ride with my bike in pieces and all...

*For the uninitiated, 'cross chaining' is when you are in the big ring up front and the big cogs in the back, or in the small ring up front and the small cogs in the back.  The chain itself will be at a slight angle front to back, which is creating friction and operating inefficiently - both slowing you down and wearing out your bike's parts faster.  At least in theory...

"Down in the 30s" implies the temperature got ABOVE 30, which so far hasn't happened to us this month!!

Cold drove me inside for my run today. 35' on the tiny indoor track at the gym--going SLOWLY around as I try not to go insane staring at my HRM willing it to stay <140bpm.

Followed that up with 2700yds in the pool. The MS was 30x50 aiming for a target pace that made me grumble yesterday when I read it, this morning when I thought about doing it, and during every 50 after the first 5 where I actually hit the target. The last 25 were all over by 1-2 seconds and that annoys me! I like to hit my target paces!!

One hour on the trainer this morning doing 10’ intervals at ftp. My legs are shot! Normally this would be a brick day, but right now it is 17F outside and later it is going to be 30F, so I’m waiting a bit. Good thing, as I think I’d have to carry my legs back after they fall off.

After the fix.  It's not perfect but I think it'll work so for now (until I ride it) I'll call it a success!

Got about 2500 yds in this morning with my swim squad. Gonna either run or go to boot camp tomorrow, depending on the weather.

Happy Hour!  Of course.... sorry grew up in a state with puritanical alcohol laws on the books where happy hour isn't allowed, unless it's food specials and not drink specials...

Super busy day today, so I started out with 90' on the trainer at 5am. Usually on the trainer, I watch trashy tv, but because my wife was still asleep and I didn't want to wake the dragon, I was stuck watching my Zwift companion app very closely. I've never been good a maintaining a constant power outage over a period--my numbers go all over the place, but generally bounce around my target. Today, however, I was nailing my power targets--guess paying attention might help a little. :P

2700yds scheduled for the pool later in between meetings about a cool new cadaver dog training session I'm putting together at my research facility and administering the final exam in my class this semester! My afternoons open up next week!! No more teaching until August!

^^^ swim session I mentioned turned super ugly real fast. It took me struggling through 2000yds to realized that I had forgotten to eat my morning snack/second breakfast in some activity surrounding our new rubble pile (that could have jeopardized the whole project). Quick math then told me why it was sucking...I hadn't eaten since 5am...or, 7+hours earlier. I'm not a person who does well with food spaced that far apart. Much more than five and I get grumpy. More than six and I want to kill someone.

^That's me, except the part where not only does the grumbling in my tummy remind me to eat but also does the constant desire to snack.  Even when full, I still want snacks.  I'm like a toddler I swear..

Wait, you train cadaver dogs?! That's Awesome! Not so much the cadaver part, but working with dogs, and search & rescue.

I did pretty good with my workouts this week. Only missed the run Monday. Did pretty good with my nutrition too.

My Fitbit died. It's been acting funny, tracking workouts incorrectly, then yesterday it died in the middle of my run.. I charged it last night and it came back, but was dead again before I got to work. I'm looking at replacing it with a Garmin Forerunner 235, which I'm kinda excited about.

Rained all day yesterday, so I couldn’t get my run in. Instead, I took my niece roller blading. I did pretty well, only fell once, but to was a doozy! I think my feet were above my head! Hurt my butt something fierce—had a hard time walking up the stairs last night!!

1:30 on the trainer followed by 20’ brick run for me this morning. My butt still hurts something fierce, so it was a real struggle to keep on that bike.

It really sucked and I’m super proud that I stuck to the end. It was COLD in my parents garage. My butt hurt. I forgot my front wheel block so I kept sliding forward on the saddle. The WiFi went out right as I was starting, so no entertainment. All just little things, but they add up to one plain terrible event.

Well last week wasn't brilliant for me.

Life got in the way of my biking commutes again (another trip away, and some evening meetings for Mrs Bullfrog. Both mean I need to drive the car home after work) so no bikes.

Only 3 runs, felt pretty crappy on all of them. Also woke up Saturday morning for my long run with a pretty impressive migraine, so postponed till Sunday, then on Sunday my running buddys knee started hurting again, so we called it a day early and walked the last 2km home.

The only real positive for the week was my Monday swim was 800m. Not huge by any stretch, but the longest since I've returned to the pool.

So all in all pretty blah.

This week is Half Marathon No. 2 for the year. Not feeling as positive about it as I was a fortnight ago, but will keep working hard and we will see...
